Title: suburban conflict WIP. Emergency vehicle transfers.
Post by: Scrubber on July 22, 2019, 05:34:15 PM
Edited 27th August 2019.
I am going to use this thread as WIP for game.
You can find the main story in other adventures area. Very uncivil war.

Hi need your help please.
I need a female figure as modern leader of country governing body.

Tried to buy Mrs Thatcher from Mike bravo, but had to start PayPal appeal to get money back after no figures or reply for 2 months.

Seen world leader pack, with Mrs May, but have no use for male figures so that seems waste of money.

Thankyou.

Think may go simple.

Looking for help from other painters.
I have my first group of Aggro skinheads.
Any suggestions on how to paint the fine short cropped hair from number one clippers, and best colours to use. This is my attempt and not happy with it. As I have another 9 to paint for the gang, would like to get right before painting next one.
Title: Re: suburban conflict WIP. Help painting skinheads
Post by: Clawed_Greengrass on September 16, 2019, 05:27:19 PM
I just use watered down dark browns, mid browns, red leather. Thin paint blends better. With a small brush i wipe off most of the paint then lightly stipple the hair shape. It creates a spotty looking texture that i feel works quite well. One of mine is here  http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=118657.0

"Thank you for link. Do you have a tuition on how you paint your flesh."

How to paint stuff is very difficult without seeing it done. These are the colours i use and the mixes. It's then a matter of playing around with the blends. The method looks really complicated, but once the colours are on the pallet it all becomes clear.

These are all Vallejo paints. I'll start from the darkest to the lightest.
Shadows Flesh 343.
Then: 50/50 mix Shadows Flesh 343, Flesh Base 341.
Then: Flesh Base 341.
Then: 50/50 Flesh Base 341, Flat Flesh 955
Then: Flat Flesh 955 and a very small amount of Highlights Flesh 342 for the top highlights on the nose and cheekbones.

If you want to add the bottom lip, i think it's worth it ;)
Use Cavalry Brown 982 Then highlight it with Cavalry Brown 982 and Medium Fleshtone 860.

Hope this helps ;)

If I scratch build where is the best place to buy doors and windows from (28mm).

You should be able to find 1/43 Battenburg transfers somewhere.

Just broke my own golden rule of painting new figures before ordering more. Orders to killer bee and offensive miniatures today. Need to build up my number of protesters without weapons.

Question to those that scratch build. I want to fill part of board with terrace houses. About 8 either side of road. This will be expensive if buying ready made, so going to give it a go myself.
So where will I find 28mm scale doors and windows to buy. UK.

Few years back I found some 28mm characters from the series Lost. They had different names presumably due to copyright.

Can anyone remember who made them. Cheers

Trying to find 28mm modern U.K. police officers without firearms or riot uniforms.
Found some nice figures from No Go Zone and Urban beat, but neither company seems to exist anymore.
Also looking for paramedics or ambulance crew.
Can anyone help.

Depends on how modern you want - Metvests for that "Rivers of London" look?

Crooked Dice Minions might fit for medics etc.

Just a tip. You can expand the range of civilian figures a bit by using some of the 1/50 plastic architectural figures you find in art shops. As these are properly scaled, ie tall and slender, you do need to carry out a little surgery, trimming a millimetre or two just above the knee to get the to match your typical gaming figure. Female figures in skirts are the easiest,  as it gives you a natural line to cut and the skirt naturally disguises your surgery.

The detail can be a little soft but often they have poses you won’t find in wargaming minis.

In similar vein, surgery on 1/48 hard plastic figures can yield good results. The Hasegawa US ground crew kits have plenty of useful figures in overalls, shirts and trousers with bare heads and ball caps.

This started as the bright blue pond/lake from battlefield in a box.

Problem was I applied the liquid water to thickly. Took over 4 months to set properly.
Then I forgot about it. So the base started to curl.
Tried bending back, but started to crack water effect. Now weighted down with heavy object, see if that works.

A few years ago, I remember finding a site that did transfers for U.K. emergency vehicles.

I need to covert white ambulance into a St. John’s one. 28mm scale.

There are a number of places that do transfers for 1/43 scale vehicles, I do not have the links to hand.

You may want plain Battenburg (vanilla and lime flavour, not vanilla and blueberry) if you are using smaller scale vehicles.
