Anyone done tabletop Rust skirmishing?
« on: April 25, 2024, 01:17:06 PM »
For the last few years, I've played quite a bit of Rust (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rust_(video_game)) - a computer (and console) game which is a bit of a cross of Minecraft and Fortnite, with postapocalyptic vibes not that far from Fallout. Everything is run-down and broken.

I would love to play skirmishes in that setting, with familiar backdrops such as Oil Rig or Train Yard (the world is procedurally generated, but in it lies monuments - static locations that always look the same). I'm not looking to play out the meta game with farming resources, building your base etc. Just fighting with a handful of dudes on each side (4-5 maybe). Main concern is miniatures. The gear you have in Rust has a specific aesthetic and I'm curious if someone have gone down this road already. Maybe there are STLs to be printed? I don't feel like converting anything for this really. Painting and building (and playing!) is way more work already than I have time/energy for. :D

The closest thing to match in style I can think of would be the old Copplestone "Future Wars" minis. Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to buy them (again).

I think Wargames Foundry’s “Street Violence” range might be of use to you? Some are a little too civilised to suit Rust’s aesthetic, but there are plenty in there that would fit pretty well.

You may find some suitable characters in the "Afterglow" PostApoc range:
http://warhog.pl/en_US/c/Afterglow-Miniatures-Game/25
Their Thugs and Looters are great, Afterglow is a true 28mm range so would fit well with Foundry and Copplestone.

The "Broken Contract" figures would also work if you can find them, especially the tool armed breakers. Nic's site is here:

But there are a lot more figures in the range than showing, drop him a line to see where the rest are. These are also true 28mm.

I have quite a few from that range. One of my survivor gangs for post-apocalyptic games is entirely from there.

Foundry figures have a lot of character and always seem to paint up well, I feel...

Just remembered Bad Squiddos range Ghosts Of Gaia! Might also be of use to you.

There's always STLs out there.  Maybe post or link some screenshots of stuff you're particularly looking for, to help narrow things down?
