Yup Akula and Cheetor amongst others have rekindled my own love of all things alien, (never went away really ;)).
So as I dig through my EM4 troopers, stop looking at the gripping beast/woodbine marines on the website, dig out my sentry guns and rifle through my plastic GW zombie and skaven bits boxes and raid the attic for my horroclix aliens vs predator boxes, I thought I'd post up a few links found today, might already be well know but may be of some use to people:
http://www.chronofus.net/wargames/aliens/halcyon.htm (http://www.chronofus.net/wargames/aliens/halcyon.htm)
(2003 but still some good links from here including):
Free rules: Bug hunt!
http://tabletoptitans.com/rules/0002.php (http://tabletoptitans.com/rules/0002.php)
Enjoy.

More the merrier - have the feeling will end up feeding off each others enthusiasm, in a way not too dissimilar from zombies....
lol

Well I can say that my effort will be on a twin reduced budget so probably, (for once) sticking with what I have first and foremost and painting it all before moving onto new stuff.
I also dug out those sniper! Bughunter rules (TSR hex minis game from the mid 80's), has some good ideas too.
-
Happy to see that my budget is spinning wildly out of control - spend £100 on mdf today.... ;D
May need to sell all that Termiantor stuff at this rate.
-
I've gone and brought out my big box of aliens aswell lol

The joys on only buying one of everything is less initial outlay and more resale gain! (Say's he with one HK tank and two HK ample! :D).

Well if they're hero/horror clix you don't want them really...I'll have em. Want some trucks? :D
-
lol
Nice try Commander =)
-
I noticed those Bughunt rules make mention to Pendraken mini's, anyone got pictures or sizes of the sci-fi range??
-
Seems Navarro from on Cool Mini or Not is sculpting up some bases for a 'Alien' world...
Looks like they'll be available from SECRET WEAPON....
More pics here:

I believe they are 10mm - I seem to remember seeing them once. :?

Thats the whole point for me. Posting up photos and getting feedback keeps me motivated.
So, in a minor tangental thread derailment, here are a couple of photos of my nearly finished conversion of the Prince August Future Shock Power Loader that I took last night:
I extended the feet, bulked out the "shoulders", added some simple cabling and finally added some styrene strip detailing to break up the flat areas on the added bits. Its not a dead ringer for the movie version but it presses the same buttons I hope.
Pretty much everyone around here has an Aliens project on the back (or front) boiler I think. I hope to get mine over and done with in 2010, hopefully alongside some of you guys :)
-
The "chronofus" is a nice link, didn't know about that.
Oh, and as we we all in Aliens now, do anybody know some producers of 1:35 scale Aliens?
No Marines, just Aliens.
Will start it in the bigger scale, ok, I've allready begun ;D
Have to visit in my holydays an old friend of mine which has an 1:35 Dropship, which he hopefully don't need anymore :D

I bought my 6yr old nephew a Palisades Toys Alien vs Marines playset still sealed off eBay a couple of months ago for £10.
This one (http://www.amazon.com/Collectible-Figures-Aliens-Deluxe-Playset/dp/B000RPV5XY).
It comes up every so often, the Aliens would work for 1:35.
-
Sheesh, it's getting to the stage where you can't mention the A word or the P word on here without being inundated with pics. Can't you just link to your own thread instead of drowning other threads Photographer?

Thanks for the suggestion.
I have them too, and I will use them as long as I don't find something better.
The problem is, that they are to big.

Minis from left: Dust, Palisades Alien, Dust, Palisades Marine and Alien
I want to use them along the Dust-Range.
And by the way, shot the pic right now.
Thats the advantage to live in NorthNorway, it's allways daytime lol

Some possible alternatives for xenos:

Giving Tyranids a stronger resemblance to the xenos:

Navarro sculpted these heads to use with 'nid Gaunts:

1st Corps have a Parasite Adult and a Parasite Juvenile in their catalogue at the mo, IIRC they are very xeno-ish, but no pics in the catalogue.

Wow. Nice and inspiring stuff here.
@Cheetor: That Powerloader conversion is great. Now I have to pimp my one up as well with some additional tubing and a turnlight on top.
By the way i found some Alien walls on ebay:

Thanks.
I also gave the feet platform soles that the Spice Girls would be proud of. They are to my mind essential to get the Aliens look. They arent exactly like the movie feet by any means but they are close enough for me.
Also, by broadening the chassis I was also able to raise the "shoulders" which in addition to the light and tubing helps to get the silhouette of the movie prop.
I am looking forward to painting such a cinema icon :)
-
I put my Alien project to the side for awhile so I could get other things done , but you guys have got me interested again 8) . I hope to see lots of nicely painted stuff to keep me going ;)

I wish that Chronofus guy would update :O Must pencil that in some time :(

Ah mate! It took me an hour and a half to take those pics (mostly spent chatting with the club members and eating flapjacks), an hour to paint each figure. And a half hour journey on the bus to my wargames club. Anyway, the thread will float to the bottom in a month. :'(

Yeah, but it rains all the time so half of you norweigans goes to Boden (North of Sweden) on your vacation with your biiig trailers. Right?!! ;)

Anyway back on track:
Been looking for this website again for a while, bookmarked it then forgot all about it:
http://www.timkline.net/alienids/ (http://www.timkline.net/alienids/)
Great inspiration and great use of GW 'nids' (well they are bloody copies of the alien concept anyway) and good tutorial on head conversions too.

Perhaps with a little bit of modification you could make those overly large xenomorphs praetorians for the queen?

Exactly my thoughts, good job I've got a complete nid army box in the attic unmolested from 2002 then isn't it ;)
;)

Ah, but the great thing about the Aliens (for gamers at least) is their size can vary tremendously, depending on what species the face-hugger grabbed.......
Therefore, you could reasonably get away with a lot of "out of scale" stuff with a bit of clever reasoning ;)

Very nice! Thank you sir.
BTW, I really like that idea of having a different blog for specific projects. It really helps organize it.
Great job...You come up with so many good ideas you should start charging consultation fees.

I think he'll owe Cameron and Romero the odd coin or too first! ;)

OK - so I've been inspired and am putting a few things together too. Mostly.
Does anyone have:
a) Pics of the Kingmaker Parasites; and
b) Any Horrorclix Aliens they would like to sell\swap?

Surely that's too many ever for a large game, after all...?

I'm still looking for more! I'm also looking at converting some Kryomek into praetorian guard (as seen in Alien Earth war and one of the computor games).
I did get a bargain the other week at Durham wargames show, I got the horrorclix Predator set for £3, made my day

Praetorians are in more than just those two.
The Kryomek certainly would do, haven't the slightest clue why I haven't bought any of them yet. The prices at Scotia Grendel are quite nice too. Could definitely see buying a large number of the buggers.
Have you opened up the predators yet? I found mine to seem too big, but figured I could eventually paint 'em up anyhoo.

Opened, rebased and repainted (to some degree). I'll take some photos. I repainted the skin, washed and highlighted the armour, touched up some sloppy parts. I didn't want to undercoat and repaint because you lose a LOT of detail on the clicky stuff.

Okay, Monday morning, I'm off to the comic shop to buy up all his alien sets. 1 of the regular Alien boxes for me (Yes, dammit, Ive been sold on doing this project too!) but who else? And who wants what? Aliens, Predators, AvP?
Between here and Frothers I figure I may as well get the lot of 'em, but I'd like to be sure that I don't get hung w/ a Steders size pile! Not that I don't want them, but LadyAsbestos will castrate me in my sleep for such things. ::)
I'm in the US, so count on somew postage, but nothing to fear. Anything UK or EU can usually be done for $12-15USD if you don't care about the giant box the figs come in.
Please drop me a line!
