Scenes of horror; UPDATE: Almost done.

Scenes of horror;  Need Scariness!

I'm trying to do some Scenes of Horror. I made a few rules for the project:

*Use materials and bits I already have. Have a box of parts from broken terrain. Minimal buying for new materials.
*Want to make it fit into the terrain I already have. Wood lands.
*Want it to be playable and still be a center piece on the board. -Thinks the home made large tress make it stand out-
*Primary priority was too make it possible to have the miniatures go into the terrain piece. a CD sized plate don't give you much place, and for me it ruins the idea of scenes of horror if you can't enter into the "scene" itself. -think I have achieved this also-
*Less-is-more is often a good way to go for a good horror feeling.

PROBLEM: I need ideas how to add HORROR AND SCARINESS! to the Scenes[/size] It looks way to peaceful and nice.
PS: lovely lady is only for size/scale comparison to 28mm miniature.

How about tentacles coming out of the trees?
Elder sign painted in the road/lane?
Skulls on the walls?

Elder sign painted in the road/lane?
I got a few Renedra Plastic Grave stones, one of those with a Elder Sign on it, put between the trees would be a very nice option. I will give it a thought. thanks

Crows in the trees? Hanged man? And the old stand by...dead horse. Possibly some small standing stones...

skulls, tombstones, markings on the walls, blood, body parts, severed heads, a noose from the tree, eye balls in the trees looking at you or faces sculpted into the trees with green stuff...tentacles up from a hole in the ground, trees, etc...

Those WIP scenes of horror are nice. You can put an empty and burned car, a wierd looking cat crossing or a Dark Young behind the trees!!

I'm reading all your ideas guys!

My idea was it to be subtle "horror". At first sight its just a old sunken forest road, but looking at it you see some strange details......

I was thinking a road stone with a yellow sign would be disturbing enough, maybe with some crows added also.

Been thinking about an ancient Cthulhu idol partly sticking out of the forest floor, covered in dirt and moss...but the eyes seems strangely alive somehow...

You can paint signs in every tree.

Those are good ideas. There is no need to use blood everywhere.

I just did mine, but I left the trees without any leaves to make them look dead and such, with some facial features. You can see the post here.

So, to summ it up, I'd go with some facial features, as it was suggested. Or tentacles...maybe even roots, raised up like they're ready to entagnle anyone who'd pass the tree on the lane?

You could just use blood and stain the lane, the unseen horrifies people the most!

BTW nice trees, any chance of tutorial? :)

For many, a picture of the Mother-in-Law should be sufficient!

Great ideas! I really like the tentacles in the trees one.  The tree foliage is thick enough to hide whats on the other side of the tentacle, while it reaches down behind some unsuspecting agent...

Maybe some strange foot prints or slime trail?

One thing I wanted to do is do a mine shaft or well....
