The CSIR in 1941 - Need some help
« on: May 08, 2012, 03:57:45 PM »
I am studying up on the actions of the Pasubio Division from August to December 1941 for some scenarios.  I decided to look on just the 80th Roma Regiment.  I have a great book by Armando Rati "L'80° Fanteria. La lunga Storia Eroica di un Reggimento Mantovano Diventata Leggenda."   It has some very good information in there.  However, I really am looking for some others.  Does anyone on the list have access to any of the following:

1) "Le operazioni delle unità italiane al fronte russo (1941-1943)"  Esercito. Corpo di stato maggiore. Ufficio storico.
2) "La Pasubio sul fronte russo"  Vittorio Luoni

This has proven to be very interesting to read up on.  I just posted on one incident on my blog: http://cstoesen.blogspot.com/2012/05/back-on-target-fun-things-you-learn-by.html.  Does anyone know of any types of noise suppressors that the Russians may have used on their tank guns in 1941?

In the Soviet Union to develop such weapons.
Here is an excerpt from an article on 45-mm guns:

 "Silent," the 45-mm antitank guns

In 1935 the first samples were made 45-mm antitank guns, in which the bore after firing a special sleeve closed. The sound remained, but his strength did not exceed the power of sound when firing a revolver.

From the article it is not clear whether this is only experimental gun or was made a small lot of such guns for special operations. In any case, these guns could not be much.

Thank you.  This is interesting.  This brings the possibility of such a weapon into reality.  Now the question is would they have mounted such a thing on a tank.  The T-26S Model 1939 was armed with a 45mm gun.  Is it possible that it could have taken this modification or was the 45mm gun in the tank vastly different than that of the anti-tank gun?

The article states that for such firing artillery shells used by special design. And a special device which is worn on the barrel of the gun. Alas - no photo.

So, like a 45-mm antitank gun and tank gun ammunition same - it seems possible to use on a tank.

Interesting.  I would love to see that article.  No mention if it was actually used I guess.

Detail of the article with a description of "silent" guns on this page. Alas - just a few lines.

This is from the book of Russian artillery historian Alexander Shirokorad "National anti-tank guns"

Excellent.  Thank you.  This is an interesting article.  Somewhere I have a book on Soviet artillery somewhere, now that I think about it.  I will try to look that up.

Just was able to get La Pasubio al Fronte Russo from inter-library loan. Things are rolling now.
