Well a hundred or so Australians and a couple of Kiwis. Arguably the Kiwis killed more folk than D Coy, as they were controlling the guns. As an eighteen year old I was required to memorise a screed on the battle prior to being eligible for leave. It’s a truly fascinating battle and one which has been extensively written about.
A feature film about Long Tan has been long rumoured, at one point Russell Crowe was said to be producing one. Thank God that never came to pass. Looks like a decent cast, hopefully it won’t just be a Vietnam version of Zulu, with the NLF subbing as Zulus. Cheers for the heads up!
There is an excellent documentary film on the battle, albeit one with the inevitable errors of detail on kit etc but with an intelligent and pretty accurate narrative, if you are interested.
