This is just fantastic.

I have one of these that I bought recently to build out my Old World Empire army, and I was wondering how to keep the charm of the old-school metal figure but add something different than the static and stone-like horses. This is sorta a take on a living version of the corpse cart or an Empire version of the Grail Relique.

Very cool and I will definitely steal some ideas for my own when (if?) I get to it!

Thanks for posting.

Absolutely brilliant and unique!  :-*

...add something different than the static and stone-like horses. ...

Those have always irked me as well. They're (sort of) fine when standing on their own, with a rider on top, and could even work as part of a larger formation trotting just before the charge. But for things like this, a pulling pose, like a draft horse would be so much better.

Something like this:

I get that at the time they had to make do with the sprues they had available; plastic moulding was initially extremely expensive, and they had to get as much mileage out of each one as they could. But some heavily built draft horses, pulling a large weight would be so much better.

Are there manufacturers who make horses like that at all? In 28mm heroic I mean; I'm sure there are plenty of 20mm and 25mm historical horses that fit the criterium, but they'd be too slight for something like this...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Genuinely glad it's been well revived. As I'm not really know for fantasy bits and bobs ( it's not that don't do fantasy just noone remembers that I do. lol )

If you're after draft horses that'll have enough heft ,to look like they could pull this sort of thing. I think you're best bet would be the
'Celtos' range chariot horses.( Think it's at Brigade Models/Miniatures one or the other.A quick Google of Celtos should point you in the right direction.)

Obviously, I have been WAY too long getting back to this thread!

Smashing work!

Then as Fram has pointed out I made a nod at the earlier comment about the wheel chap looking like he's about to have his foot run over. With a chap who did  ;D
...

Don't deserve it, I know, but can't help a bit of private pride pretending I added a bit of inspiration.

Must say, though, he must have been standing on a soft patch, or there would be a lot of blood.  ;)

Doug,
Take as much credit as you like. If you hadn't mentioned feet being run over. Then I honestly don't think I'd have made a figure with a sore foot.
It's now waiting with the other Empire bits until I've enough variation of figures coloured in,to be able to loose in multiple ways.
