Against all common sense it would seem I've begun another new project in 28mm. I thoughts I'd start a thread for any other interested folk here. I'll start with the Coldstream and Scots Fusilier Guards. All figures are from Great War Miniatures via North Star. More of course on my blog ~

Off to read your blog.....
Have done much the same thing as you and will be putting on an Alma game next weekend. I've got a lot of flocking to do before then but everything else is ready.

Very nice indeed.

Looking great so far. Got to love though guards in bearskins. I would love to do Crimean War if I had the time. What rules are you using?
In case you weren’t aware Atheling has a fair amount of GWM unpainted Crimean figures for sale :)

I will use Black Powder I expect at first, though I have purchased Soldiers of Napoleon with a view to possible tinkering. I had some discussion with Aetheling but he was unwilling to split his items and I didn't want the Guards as I'd already bought them. All very amicable though.

Part of the Prodigal Collection recently returned to me, the Light Brigade using Foundry figures and painted sometime in the early 1980's...

An addition to the project in the form of a second base of the 1st, Royal Scots. As ever not much apparent interest judged by comments.

Comments come and go. If you really want to gauge interest, keep an eye on how many yisits your thread gets...
Nice work on these minis, by the way...
-
Looking forward to watching your project progress, even if not my period and I don't have much of relevance to add!
-
(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/hh135/Yankeepedlar01/IMG_20230831_154359_01.jpg)
The 2st, the Royal Scots, have mustered into service for the project. More on my blog as you'd expect.
-
Another excellently painted addition to the project :) Is it one more base to complete this regiment?
Did they form square in this period if threatened by cavalry?
-
No more bases, this is it for every regiment/battalion. s to square, a quick search threw up this ~
The square continued to be a tactically relevant formation during the rest of the 19th century but as the infantryman’s musket evolved into the percussion-locked rifle the increased firepower and accuracy meant that infantry could face cavalry in line, this was demonstrated during the Crimean War at the Battle of Balaclava when the 93rd Highlanders were caught by advancing Russian light cavalry, the 93rd’s commander believed his men could withstand the charge without forming square. Instead the 93rd remained in line and fired volleys at 600, 350 and 150 yards halting the Russian charge. The accuracy, rapidity and weight of fire the two rank line was able to bring to bear halted the Russian cavalry before they reached the line. The Russian’s pulled back fearing a counter charge or British reinforcements.

Lord Raglan and staff officers. Not that there seems much enthusiasm for this thread. Too many figure fiddler's and not enough Wargamers about perhaps?😉
-
Nice command stands, they alway add something to an army, I tend to forget about them on my projects!! :)
-
Great looking figures.

Lord Lucan and ADC on my blog currently. Probably the final entry on the thread as it seems there's little interest from the figure fiddling fraternity here.
-
I think it's been said above that lack of replies does not imply lack of interest! I for one would like to continue to follow your progress. I am much more likely to check in here than follow multiple blogs.

Roosian cavalry on the blog presently.
-
More good-looking figures!
-
Really like the way you use a few figures in a different pose to mix things up - but not too much to make it distracting or more of a vignette than a wargames unit. Nice!
-
Wonderful project! If you don't mind me asking what colors did you use for the "Oxford Blue" British trousers?
-
Foundry Prussian Blue ~ Shade and Mid tones.

The brits look great as a group! How much are you planning to expand from here?
I have mustered eleven battalions of infantry so far, in addition to the Prodigal Foundry Collection, with three more in the Lead Pimple awaiting painting. I have also got six battalions of French infantry on the said Pimple. As to Roosians, when I finish painting the last base of Jaegers there remains just six Dragoons, twelve Cossacks and a cart.

Look forward to the group shot of everything - fantastic project 8)
