My build will be inspired by this:
An open sewer section to become part of a post-apoc urban 'winter' board
-
Nice!
-
That'll be cool!
-
That will be a very useful piece of terrain. Do you know where you can get 28mm sized shopping trolleys?, that would be great!
-
I was thinking initially of car body repair mesh but that's a diamond mesh so it would look wrong. I'll bet it's a difficult thing to make. Like you say, wire round a shaped block is probably the best idea. Having seen your WotR masterpiece this project will look great.
-
I am wondering if I can make one by wrapping wire around a block :)
There is one in etched Brass. Can't find it at the moment though. Remember it for being very expensive, and that it was on the same homepage that did firestairs for buildings (H0?).
-
Great idea!
-
You might be able to get a shopping trolley from a dollshouse website thing.
-
I found this on US ebay:
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=160842241240
It's a Monopoly piece so may be too big.
I was trying to post a photo of a wheely bin earlier, hence the cock up with the image. What about a half sunken bin that could be used for cover? I've got some somewhere if you want one?
-
I'm guessing it's not problem if some of the water is iced over.... it's still water, right? :) ;)
Yes, I think we have stressed that several times. Water in any form. Im fact we are hoping for people to make attempts at water in various forms and degree of agitation.

Black Cat Bases has one.
-
No worries. If you change your mind I've dug the bin out of the resin pile!
-
Black Cat Bases has one.
Zizi666; I can't seem to find the trolley on the Black Cat site. What category is it under?
-
Ian over at fenris games has had one in the pipeline for a while now; brass etch. Worthgiving him a shout.
Looking forward to progression on this project :-*
-
You can't weight a trolly down with coins ;D lol
Great stuff Steve 8) Nice to see that even the scumiest parts of the country can provide inspiration.
cheers

I came across the perfect material for your trolley, and for wire fences. It comes from portable gas stoves... it's a very fine mesh that I picked up in a camping store. I was thinking about how you could make this on the way into work this morning... If you made a template that folds up into the shape of a trolley (like you make a cardboard cube in primary school) you could add a few more details with armature wire etc. I'm sure you'll find a way to put it together but I thought that mesh would have been perfect!
-
Always like to see other peoples take on swampy water.
-
This looks great - very promising.
I assume this will be used to showcase your your Scavenge Skirmish Survive line?
Will that "pipe" be open for playing in?
-
Great start!! Is the length of cream pipe going to be an cut away sewer?
-
If you have a belt sander and some time, you can just clamp the pipe in a workbench or workmate and run the belt sander along it until you achieve the profile you want. (Cue the noise, dust and required facemask!)
-
How many combinations are there for putting the boards together to create different layouts?
:D
-
:o
lol
I bet there's at least one spreadsheet for this ;)
-
In which case the answer is........ 48 :D

That's still 6 more than the Ultimate Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything.
This will be really good to watch, it's already picked up a following!
-
lol
-
Looks like it is progressing really well.
Not sure about the giant bog roll, though.
That may be going a tad too far!
-
Not all of us are lucky enough to have a terrain making table in the WC lol
-
Steve,
You mentioned using a trolley in your sewer and so I knocked this one up.

Here is another shot

If you're interested?

Effing brill.I would, though, solder a thin wire onto the upper edge of the trolley to make it look complete.

It only took ten minutes so I was just using what I had to hand.
-
Great work SI,and clever stuff Damas. This comp is going to be a bit of an knockout I think!
-
This is a great build. Will need some advice on a multi-layer board soon so I now know where to come.
-
I'll echo the comment about adding a thin wire to complete the trolley, but other than that it's perfect :D
-
That looks brilliant! Always love your scenery :)
-
Coming along nicely 8)
cheers
James
-
Looking really good Steve. You're beginning to become the master of illuminations.
Just a quick point- why don't you either solder or crip the leds to the wire?
Cheers
Andy
-
Cheers guys!
It's all soldered Andy, I'm just paranoid so I insulated the joins with tape as it's all pretty combustible stuff! :D
True! the last thing that you want is for it to go up in flames!
Out of interest; why did you go for yellow LEDS?
-
The leds have a variable flicker and so I convinced myself that the effect is that of a guttering candle! That said, when my elder daughter came out to the workshop she thought the effect was more like the emergency lights in a horror movie and wondered about a buzzing sound (PS .... there is also a sound generator in the works.... howling winds, running water, etc and now fizzing lights!)
Multimediamodels :D
Love it 8)
Where did you get your flicker lights from (after something similar myself)?
cheers

Really enjoying seeing your progress on this build.
It certainly looks like its gonna be a good 'un!

Ooooh yes, sound effects, we love those ;) lol
Its coming along very nicely. ;D

Was going to suggest you get one of those aquarium water pumps moving the water but you got that covered already? :)

Real poo? Is that going too far?
-
Real poo? Is that going too far?
That depends on how bad the local gaming crowd is... :-X
-
Oh I accidentally missed this thread- Now I am an avid follower- looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
-
One word...awesome :)
-
Looking good Steve, can't wait for the details! ;)
-
Looking great SI - what an effort! :)
Shouldn't Her Majesty have a pack of corgis with her at least!!
-
This is really starting to come to life now.
Looking forward to the next update!
Great shopping trolley, by the way.
-
Looking good Steve :)

Seconded, coming together really well. :)
-
Man! That is excellent, love the details and the way it's coming together. Funny how something like an sewer can be beautiful :-*
-
Doing the small details are a pain in the arse but well worth it. Looking good.
-
Way to go, Silent! :-*
I really love this competition and the variety of stuff that people are putting out. Extremely inspiring :)
-
Can't wait to see this finished now! ;D

Man! This keeps getting better :-* :-* :-*
-
Yeah momma, I just saw 'The Road' again and this board is already giving me that vibe.
You have to include the father and the son from Lead Adventure miniatures in your collection.
I've wanted to do a scenario with them for ages and bought them from Alex last year... and as a true collector they're still sat in the blister pack I bought them in. lol
-
Oooh, yes!
This is really chomping on the cookie now!
:-*
-
Snow! it must be Christmas :D
Coming together well Steve.
-
Great job, Steve! :-*
I must admit that my planning has gone out the woods apparently. Nobody said that you had to paint stuff to enter ::)
-
looks grand, but I do have to wonder if the snow would stick to that steep sided bit, would need a good blizzard gust to plaster that, but that bit is sheltered.

You could always gloss varnish it and have it as a seeping wall of ice as water drains from the top level.
-
Regarding the snow.. yes, it can take any form and shape, on any form or shape of things. Just come to Finland, and you will experience it first hand lol

I agree with Procolo. Although I live in the south of Sweden, there's fucking snow everywhere during the winter >:(
The snow on the wall can be explained with some dry powder snow just getting stuck there by wind and basically freezing in place when the temperature drops :)
It's bloody awesome, Steve, no matter!
-
fair enough then... lol
it will probably look more logical with the snow in place and on the bare areas...
-
Drying aside I'm sure you can do it ;)
cheers
James
-
That looks amazing- so icey!
-
Amazing grace!!!!! :-* :-* :-*
-
Ooooooh, it looks cold, I love the icicles. :-*
-
Awesome Steve.
Pop a few of your 'Alien' troopers in there. They'll do the job... ;)
-
This is fantastic Silent Invader. It's got me interested in your rules and miniatures already!
-
Looking good Steve ;D
You had better get those figures cast up, some painted and the rules prepared as there's a mini BLAM on the cards in February and this just might be a popular game..... ;)
-
This is superb Steve, man you've certainly got some talent
-
I really like the look of this. I did a similar area on amodel railway once and in ngauge (one of the smallest gauges) it was a nightmare for certain details.
As for the trolley. Wire around a block like you suggest would be great and maybe use solder instead of glue for a stronger bond, potentially with some flux, you should be able to get a small amount so as to not hide the details of the mesh effect.
Also if the above does not work, you could get some of the thin mesh from say a fish net (cheap £1 thing) and wrap that around a block of wood, add pva glue to harden it then paint it?
A bit like doing rigging on model ships?
