Hoo-aw! She is a beauty, Ray. Good to see her finished, since she was the one that started me doing scratchbuilt Aeronefs - and I will not mention how long ago that was.

Great work Ray. A cracking bit of kit  :-*!

I've always used clear plastic of various designs for my supports but I'd say go for blue or brown. I suggested brown as as it may blend in with jungle/woodland scenery, to be honest I've never tried it though  ::).
Don't!

Anybody have any ideas on what I should do with the supports?  Leave them like they are in wood?  Paint them?  Blue... Black... Still not sure.

Try faded khaki (lighter variant of the darkest tone of the LAF background, at least as my screen shows it).  This may seem odd, but it blends in very well with most tabletop terrain backgrounds as well as viewed against "open air" sideways.

Thanks Rudi.

I might just do that as I agree that the supports more likely need to blend in with the game board.

For my gaming board (made from Geo Hex) the darker khaki may be more appropriate though, or perhaps a mix of the two.

We'll see.

I use Kallistra preflocked grass hexes to game on.  Grass is indeed darker than faded khaki, so I was of the same opinion as you.  However, after testing it out, I switched to the lighter khaki in the end: it blends in just about as well with the darker gaming table, but - on top of that - when viewed sideways the supports tend to be hardly visible as well, which wasn't the case earlier when painted dark.  Just thought I would share the experience...

Just have a look at this old battle report: the balloons in the pics are supported by thin steel wire painted light khaki:

Very interesting, thanks for the info,  Rudi.  I see what mean about the light khaki.  I'll give it go.

Kewl looking game too... thanks for the link.

very unusual design and crack looking!
it could easily be amphibious

about the base...
how about simply inserting thin steel rods into the hull and no base at all?
You could then have different lengths for different heights?

Final WIP shots....

The ship is now finished...

And the base needs some scatter, painting and static grass.

I'm counting on you Rudi!   lol

A few more days now and the Commodore will be taking her for a test drive...  :D
