Italeri/Warlords Sd.Kfz 234 Puma photo etch?
« on: May 19, 2015, 05:48:34 PM »
I've just been perusing the interweb on my break at work and have been eyeing up the 28mil Puma. I've built Italeri's 1/48 kit last year and was presently surprised with it so I ordered a few more for gaming. I also picked up from ebay a PE set from Aber. I'm wondering if the 1/56 kit is a reduction of its 1/48 brother? The reason I ask is that I've been looking at the home grown photo etches you can buy. I think they were originally produced for the railroad modellers back in the late 90s. The reviews back then were quite naff but now 15/20 years on they've improved.

I'm thinking of scanning the 1/48 fret and reducing it to 1/56 on the computer. I've been watching a few how to demos on You Tube. It's just an idea and it may not work as some of the parts my be too small and fragile and may not even translate on the fret. But if it does it could it work for other kits like the Sherman. Say a 1/48 or even a 1/35 fret for the fenders, brush guards and the engine deck. It would certainty look cool and if glued with the like of two part epoxys.

What do you guys think. Worth a try?
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass....and I'm all out of bubblegum. No wait I've just found another pack in my back pocket. Mmm tropical fruit bubblicious.

I think that is a brilliant idea. I just last year started using etch in 1/35, and I love the effect.

One suggestion? Measure the Warlord/Italeri BA armor before you resize. I don't have any yet, I'm curious if they are actually 1/56 or not.

At the price, I'm thinking of just buying my armor in 1/48. My resin 1/56 Churchill VII from Warlord was more expensive than the Tamiya 1/48 Jadgtiger I bought for DUST Tactics/Warfare. A lot of 1/48 Hobbyboss can be found on Amazon Prime.

Check out HobbyLink Japan for prices on Tamiya kits, and the same for other products, as the Yen is still rather weak versus the dollar at the moment:  www.hlj.com

Hope this helps! 8)

You're more than welcome, ma'am! HLJ has been feeding my Space Battleship Yamato addiction for more years than I care to remember...  :D

"Uchu Senkan Ya-Ma-To". XD I can sing this first verse, in passable Japanese.

I'm not as much of a fan as I am of Macross, but I like Yamato as well.
