Don's New Zealand Wars
« on: May 12, 2016, 12:55:09 PM »
I always tried to get around these little sideshow...until I grabbed a handfull of Empress blisters at the last do or dice convention...:)

really cool Hicks work.

I started with a few maoris...more to come.
Even tried a few facial tattoos...probably too small to be seen on the table.

I am going to paint these littlee project more on the comic side of things, so I am not too interested in histrocal background, sorry...;)

Cheers,
Don

Great work  :-* :-* I think that the tattoos will work very well at the tabletop level.  This is an era that I have been resisting but fear that I am going to be sucked into. Must resist, must resist  o_o o_o

Looking great.

It would be interesting to get a close-up of how you did the tattoos.  On my Empress figures, I left off the tattoos altogether, as I just couldn't get them to look right after trials with a fine paintbrush and even a very sharp lead pencil.  But it appears you've succeeded ...

Looks great! I especially like the details on the blanket of Hone Heke's - the dude in the cap and an ancestor of mine.

Facial tattoos are really hard to do, and to get them to look half-decent from tabletop distance - yours seem to work quite nicely. I quite like the shoulder and arm tatts - Ngapuhi didn't really do that sort of thing at that time, but who cares? it looks great! Some iwi/hapu preferred to do these linear kind of tatts on the buttocks and thighs, but that's beyond my ability to do on 28mm figures!

Thanks for posting!
