Mark Copplestone has been sneaking out pictures on Instagram of what he's doing next:
https://www.instagram.com/marks_little_soldiers/ (https://www.instagram.com/marks_little_soldiers/)
-
In summary:
Oooohhhh…..lovely new Mark sculpts…..hmmm retro…..aaargh 30mm…..hmmmm nice though….do I need another project….maybe….
lol
-
Looking forward to this. I wonder how deep he'll go.
-
Pretty deep, most of it's made already.
-
Ha, cute.
-
Any clue for us non instagrammians? (And not facebookians either, social media is the debil.)
-
Didn’t Aly Morrison do a similar thing a few years back? Can’t remember what scale his were. Love the look of these.

Indeed he did Little Britons, available from Spencer Smith Miniatures. 40mm though I believe.
-
They look very old school figures to me.
That is interesting. What exact period are they?
-
I love em!!

The 2020's lol
-
Oh my poor wallet, he finally did them!
-
Brilliant! Not sure if I can squeeze another project into my hobby room, but this looks fun.

If they're following TinTin's early adventures, I reckon they'd be pre-war late 20's-30's.

There will be pictures etc as we get closer to release on the North Star website, plus I'll share them here.
-
Mountain Troops.
-
I'm thinking Grand Budapest Hotel and the Hitchcock version of the Lady Vanishes - very Ruritarian.
-
Any idea of an eta on these?
-
Any idea of an eta on these?
No, but all the figures are made, it's just a question of making the moulds for casting quantities for orders. Shouldn't be too long.
-
Woo Hoo…available through North Star…any pricing yet Please Nick?
-
No idea, Mark's not said yet.
-
No worries will start saving anyhow
-
Not the Balken/Hungarian Tintin theme but maybe Mark will do some of these.

You might think differently it you were serving in Swedish winters!
-
You might think differently it you were serving in Swedish winters!
Probably not given that the Swedes introduced a fleece winter cap around the time that uniform was current. ;)
Loving the MC figures, although not sure whether I want to buy tins of Humbrol enamel again. Interesting that some of them have distinctly Czech details, like the LMGs and the helmets on some of them.
-
Thank you Nick, that is a fabulous project i will follow !!!!! i'm a great fana of shinning varnish !
Will the miniatures have separate heads ?
best regards
paco

A wonderful update thanks Nick

I don't know to be honest, but I think not.
-
After an initial hmmmm I am quite warming to the idea now.
Do you think we will see any characters in the range?
Has anybody got any ideas for vehicles?
-
Yes, Mark already has characters made.
-
Yes, Mark already has characters made.
I’m listening :D
This definitely sounds interesting!
-
Mark talks about vehicles on his Instagram page. Seems like FT tanks and Lancia armored cars are the order of the day.
-
I don't do Instagram did he mention any particular manufacturers?
-
I don't do Instagram did he mention any particular manufacturers?
So far
Fiat tanks - resin from Anyscale Models
Lancia A/C - MDF from Warbases
-
Thanks
-
The 2020's lol
Hahahaha. Grand style.
-
Here is my armor for one of the countries, 3D prints from Majestic Miniatures on Etsy.
FT-17 tanks and Polish armored car.
-
First rate, like the houses too.
-
Thanks, the houses are a Dollar Store find, sold as mini dollhouses.
-
They work a treat.
-
We're putting together the 'Wave One' release, should have details next week.
-
Here is the release schedule for Mark's Little Soldiers. We hope to do a 'Wave' a month, but that will depend on mould-making and whether people actually buy any lol
http://nstarmagazine.com/marks_little_soldiers_1.htm (http://nstarmagazine.com/marks_little_soldiers_1.htm)
-
Nic,
All the infantry in phase one are advancing with or without backpacks, correct?
-
Wave One is now ready to order.
They should be ready to ship before the end of August. Each deal comes with a free pre-order special figure, the War Reporter, but we haven't pictures to show you just yet. I'll post them here when I have them.
https://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/list.php?cat=23&page=1 (https://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/list.php?cat=23&page=1)
-
Just when I’ve got no money 😩😩😩😩
-
These are great,l probably wouldn't take with them but just buy them to paint. I especially like the aircraft though, they might see some action!
-
These look fun! I do get the pseudo-nostalgia thing.
-
I'm really excited for these to come out. Digging through potentially suitable rules sets and making a final decision on which country I'll lead to defeat...
-
Rules? You just want a few old Britains or Crescent cannon, the spring loaded ones that shoot little projectiles or at a pinch, match sticks. Good god man, what do you think gloss enamel paint is for if not protection? ;)
Would like to see how these size up against Mark’s existing 28mm ranges.
-
Mark describes them as 30mm ish. As far as rules go, I’ll probably use The Portable Wargame for larger battles, and either The Sword and The Flame or One Hour Skirmish for smaller games.
-
Contemptible Little Armies seems the ideal rules for these.
-

Rebels and patriots? Just need a few adaptations 😀
Although described as 30mm, I am hoping all those nice interwar tanks and armoured cars Copplestone Castings used to sell (now with Empress) would work with these figures?
https://www.empressminiatures.com/bcw-vehicles-87-c.asp
-
I want to love these and I do. But when chatting to guys at club they quite correctly pointed out that we have thousands of 30s figures between us. Namely 38!
I however have jumped on every Copplestone band wagon. Back of beyond then RCW and High adventure. Not to mention 1670 and barbarica. Most ranges I feel were never finished.
-
Mark has already sculpted the entire range, as can be seen on his Instagram page. It’s a question of enough folks buying them to justify making molds and casting them up.
-
‘A gentlemen’s war’ rules should be ideal for these figures
-
I'm heading down a slightly different route for rules - my first thought is Blitzkrieg Commander as I love playing and haven't for a few years now. And possibly Crossfire too, if I get get hold of enough suitably styled scenery. And I'm hoping to try out Mark's own rules at some point.
But then I'll probably crack and write my own, too :-)
-
Is there any pics or info on how they scale with existing Copplestone or other Heroic 28mm ranges? I would like to make an army, but I will need to be able to play 'normal' 28mm ranges without it looking too odd.

Wait, 1670? What's this? Never heard of a 1670 Copplestone line and google doesn't seem to show anything but a couple old Spanish sculpts done in his Foundry days.

It's this range:
https://www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=123&page=1 (https://www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=123&page=1)
It was originally a Copplestone Castings range, we've only added a few packs. Bit unfair to say it's 'unfinished', I've a French & Dutch army, apart from some more Generals and skirmishing models, it's pretty complete.
-
We're taking orders now for Wave One of Mark's Little Soldiers.
Every deal ordered comes with a free 'War Reporter' figure. He may be on sale with other specials in the future.
We hope to get a Wave out each month, here's the list: http://nstarmagazine.com/marks_little_soldiers_1.htm (http://nstarmagazine.com/marks_little_soldiers_1.htm)
-
I don’t do Instagram so will there be some official rules coming out with this range which include back story for each of the fictional nations?
-
Mark has a set of rules he's using, he's got to write them up before we'll ever see them in print.
I don't think we'll see back stories to the nations, this is Mark's thoughts on his range:
Over the last few years I've realised that all the detailed beautifully painted historical miniatures and
realistically modelled terrain that surround modern wargamers don't interest me any more. I still admire
the skill it takes to make them, but I really don't find them exciting or evocative. At the same time I started
to spend more time looking at vintage toy soldiers. They had period feel, but they weren't quite what I
wanted. And they were mostly too big. I didn't want to recreate 'old school' wargames, although I could
see the appeal.
I decided I was suffering from what I thought of as Pseudo-Nostalgia: I could see in my mind's eye toy
soldiers that might have existed, but never had, and I wanted them. The only answer was to make them
myself.
I knew I wanted them to be stylised, sturdy, around 30mm tall, easy-to-paint, have integral bases big
enough to stop them falling over, come in limited poses and be soldiers from imaginary countries from
the 1920's and 30's. And they had to feel nice when you picked them up. To get the flavour right I wanted
a splash of Tintin. a good measure of interwar Hausser -Elastolin and a pinch of Holger Ericksson's
'Swedish African Engineers' ranges.
The easy-to-paint bit is important: sometimes you just want to get an army on the table quickly but still
feel you've done the best possible job. With this style of miniature you can do that – there's no shading
or detailing to do, so with a steady hand you really can paint my Little Soldiers as well as Kevin
Dallimore. If you really want you could paint the detail on, but why bother?
You can have fun making up your own imaginary countries and their uniforms and mix-and-match the
packs – or you can paint them up like my Berglanders, Slovskans or Panovians. Honestly, I've found it
liberating. I hope you do too.
-
I was going to mention the rules are mentioned on the Army packs pages.
They look interesting. Certainly contemplating getting some.
Earlier in the thread there was mention of using the ex-Copplestone vehicles, I suspect they would be a bit small (I remember them being scaled at 1/55). There is a comparison between the FT and a 30mm lipped base here:
https://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2022/08/empress-ft-tank-scale-comparison.html (https://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2022/08/empress-ft-tank-scale-comparison.html)
I do have some questions (they are not criticisms):
Are there just two types of helmet for the infantry? I can see the Panovians have boots and the Slovskans have puttees.
Are all the guns the same?
Do both of the guns have the recuperator under the barrel?
I am looking forward to something I can paint, it has been a while.
https://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2021/12/pandyman-entertainment-police-office.html (https://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2021/12/pandyman-entertainment-police-office.html)
-
I was rather taken with Mark's "2D" aircraft as seen in some of his photos.
It seems however that they are scratchbuilds, rather than to be produced.
The alternative might be these "Cheep Chinese Planes" readily available
(again) from Ebay at a good price. Very 1930s looking and can be quickly
converted into monoplanes from their biplane configuration.
I painted some of these up in RAF colours last year (plus BUF and Soviets)
see : https://hereford1938avbcwtng.blogspot.com/2021/01/lifting-off-out-of-lockdown-raf.html
Their rather cartoony look might well fit with the 'toy soldier' look of Mark's Little Soldiers.
-
Just learned about this line and I love it's "retro-simplicity". As soon as I saw them, I thought about the various warring nation in Tintin's adventure and I wasn't wrong.

Love the release schedule!
If I may be so bold as to suggest that Mark might want to consider a marching pack, and possibly even a standing to attention pack?
:)
-
Will these be available from Brigade Games in the US?
-
More likely Badger Games, they handle Northstar.
-
Brigade and Badger can both carry the range from us, either have placed orders yet though. You'll need to contact them.
Any of North Star's stockists can order the range in, anywhere in the world.
-
We're shipping orders now.
-
That hat is a terrible thing to inflict on an army!🙂
Shut up you, they are a mark of immense pride to us Swedes. Perfect rain catcher.
-
Anyone here got their orders yet? Love to see some painted.
It's the last weekend of the Wave One deals, where you get a bit of money off and the free reporter figure. They all end 1st September.
https://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/list.php?cat=23&sub=74&page=1 (https://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/list.php?cat=23&sub=74&page=1)
-
Got mine yesterday and they are superb. Not started painting them though.
-
My order arrived on Wednesday. They are, as danmer says, superb. I'm waiting for a couple of cans of primer and then they will jump up the queue on the paint table. Bring on Wave 2 . Defend the honour of Mighty Slovsko!
-
I don’t suppose anyone could do some comparison photos of them compared to say GWM figures or any other 28mm?
-
Reporter and GWM
-
Thanks Nick :)
-
If you are UK based, we will have Mark's Little Soldiers at Partizan in October.
& a date for your diary, I spoke with Mark whether he'd like to put on a demo/ participation game at Hammerhead next March (4th) and he's up for it. Come along and see the figures, terrain and chat to him about the project.
-
There's no compulsion to make terrain like Mark as well, but if you were to, his hedges, walls, buildings will be available as free downloads from the North Star magazine in the near future.
-
Are all Mark's Little Soldiers that close in scale to the GWM figures? Or is it just that the "reporter" is a boy?
-
Better comparison
-
Mark's chum Kev Dallimore couldn't resist painting some Little Soldiers in the normal fashion of course, here's some shaded Berglanders.
-
Better comparison
Tall but it seems that most of the added height is in the base.
-
The special deals for the Wave One release all end tonight.
-
Jumped on at the very last minute. Victory to mighty Slovsko. Bergland rightfully belongs to the peoples. Death to the fascist Panovians!!!!!
-
Oooh. Kev's painting style looks good on those. Something to aim for there.
Succumbed. Bought two army packs. Are there dates for the next releases at all?
-
We'll be getting Wave Two ready this month. The list is here:
http://nstarmagazine.com/marks_little_soldiers_1.htm (http://nstarmagazine.com/marks_little_soldiers_1.htm)
There will be a 2nd special character model for the Wave Two deals as well. Not sure what it is yet, I'll share it on here as soon as I know of course.
-
Any chance that Wave Three could swap places with Wave Two?
-
Any chance that Wave Three could swap places with Wave Two?
Eh?! You haven't even got wave one Nick, and you're asking me to swop things around?!
-
The wave three models are the ones I’m really interested in. Assume once the last wave has been released, then everything will be available.
-
Patience is a virtue.
-
Woohoo!! Parcel arrived.
Have gone for Berglanders and Slovskans. Two of the army deals and some addl artillery crews so I can expand the HMG crews.
These are BIG figures. Wowsers. Hoping I can find suitable vehicles. I was going to use Sloppy Jalopy, but they might be a bit small... Anyone compared them together?
Lovely lovely castings. Guns look easy to assemble. Possibly going to use "World Aflame" or Men Who Would be Kings. Try both I guess.
Cor. Looking forward to some simple paintjobs after doing 1870 French..
-
I think you'll find Sloppys will be ok. They are 1/48th scale, which in theory is 36mm, & Mark's figures are 30/32mm.
I think any vehicle 1/48th or 1/43rd will do. Keep an eye on Mark's Instagram, I'm sure he'll feature more vehicles there.
Mark will be sharing his home grown rules at some point, but in the meantime try Contemptible Little Armies by Mark's chum Chris Peers.
-
Any chance we might see some Border 'furniture' - sentry boxes, signposts and such like ?
-
Have folk been keeping upto date with Mark's Instagram. He's been adding to it regularly.
https://www.instagram.com/marks_little_soldiers/ (https://www.instagram.com/marks_little_soldiers/)
Here is the free figure that will come with the Wave Two deals, Should be available to pre-order this weekend:
-
First look at Wave Two of Mark's Little Soldier range.

-
I ordered the Panovians as I like the Austro look but I really like those Slovskan Generals with their British look.
-
Any chance of tank commanders and vehicle drivers (suitable for 1/48 scale vehicles)?
-
The Wave Two deals are ready to order now:

First attempt at some Berglanders in a hybrid style. Semi-gloss varnish and simple base but highlights added to the main painting.
Hope you like them
-
They look amazing :) I think that’s how I would want to paint them rather than flat colours.
-
Hope you like them
Lovely. Very effective.
-
They look great, the hybrid painting style works well.
-
That bloody brilliant! :o :o
-
Some Panavonians next. Still need to add an mdf base but otherwise all done. Enjoying painting these. The simple clean casting makes them a pleasure to paint quickly even adding a some highlights is easy. Interestingly I’ve had to tone down the uniform highlights though. The lack of obvious sculpted creases in the uniform means a standard highlight looks too harsh. Fine on the equipment though. Not actually sure you’ll see the highlights when on the table.
Anyway hope you like them. Only bought 2 packs to try them out. Need to decide if I go all in now and build a couple of armies. Decisions decisions!
-
They are splendid Guv!
-
The North Star website is back to normal, the IT guy didn't pay the bill on time. Rubbish.
Thanks to everyone who's ordered the Wave Two release, I'm hoping to get things sent out first week of October.
-
I don’t see the point of detailing what are meant to be simple toy soldiers. Defeats the purpose I think.
-
I don’t see the point of detailing what are meant to be simple toy soldiers. Defeats the purpose I think.
Me neither. But they do now look like 1930s walking communist or fascist posters. Different :)
-
Sir,
You are right, that’s exactly what they look like.
-
These are lovely - a really clever take on an interesting range. I'dlike to see how the respective general packs would come out.
-
Those are really nice. The wood effect is very good.
Not decided whether mine will be plain or at least wash shaded (I have a pack of each state on order with Hope Eternal).
-
Oh rhey look pretty good. Actually back in the day when I started wargaming many people painted details. Each to his own, I think. I’ll at least try this once.
-
The new issue of Wargames Illustrated features an interview with Mark Copplestone about his Little Soldiers range.
I've not read it either, but the magazine should be with us tomorrow. You can order a copy here:

I’m interested in Mr Copplestone‘s thoughts!

Mr. Copplestone has done some 1848 and South American figures in this style. When can I figure on their release?

Now that has my full attention. Any details on the South American line?
-
Mark hasn't made ranges of 1840s or South American figures, he's made some experimental figures as these are projects he'd like to move onto once the current range is fully launched.
(He might not be that keen if people don't buy into Mark's Little Soldiers BTW).
I've just read his interview in the new Wargames Illustrated. If you were curious about why Mark has gone down this route, it's all answered there.
-
There's a first picture of the third special figure (to give away with Wave Three) on Mark's Instagram page:

Quite interesting, but I need another scale like I need a hole in the head. lol
-
We have the WW1/ Interwar ruleset Contemptible Little Armies back in stock.
This is the ruleset Mark was originally going to use for The Little Soldiers, and fits them perfectly. He has moved to a more 'grid move' system, a set of rules he'll share at some time in the future, but if you wanted rules now, these are great.

-
Just awaiting my parcel from release 2 before finalising the organisation of my infantry for the Not Panovians and Not Slavskans. The figures paint up really easily, the Not Panovian artillery, high command and MG corps are done. An overall spray paint of olive green was a good base to start from.
For rulesets I was thinking to adapt Iron Cross, use Setting the East Ablaze, Beyond the Empire, or Contemptible Little Armies. I have even toyed with the idea of using the Rompun Al Fuego mods for Rapid Fire.
I should love to see some Age of Rifles figures in this style, 1848 and the year of Revolutions might just do it, especially if uniforms are easily paint customisable.

For those who might like to view painted figures so far there is a post on The Valhalla Road Taxi Stand blog.

Taking orders now for Wave Three of Mark's Little Soldiers.

The Wave Three figures are ready now, I think we'll be shipping this week.
I mentioned that I felt Contemptible Little Armies was a perfect set of rules for this range, and a large number of people have been adding a copy to their MLS orders. Until Mark releases a set of rules for the range (he is playtesting a set, based on grid movement), CLA could be the way, especially for gamers not wanting to use the grid movement system.

Another unit outfitted for the table.

Good stuff Dan. The use of coloured sprays seems a great approach for these figures.

I'm joining Mr Copplestone tomorrow (bar any disasters) for a playtest of his rules for MLS. I'll post lots of photos here.
You can see some of his preparations on his Instagram page:

And ask him to continue his most excellent 15mm stuff while you have the chance! lol

The table is all set up for tomorrow, with the Berglanders advance marked.

The mnimalism of this concept...! :-*
-
Piet Mondrian would be chuffed.
-
I ought to hate it but find I absolutely love it :-* lol
The naïve school.
Both the figures and the table concept and execution are brilliant.
Soooo tempting.
But I can’t… I can’t :-X
Have a fabulous game Nick 8)
-
Like!
Helmets and gun-shields to match!
-
It always looks kinda weird to me but on the other hand Iam very much attracted!
Iam getting more and more a fan.
-
Good game. Mark still has some creases to iron out.
I was in command of a large Berglander force that had to take a Slovskan coal mine and cut off a railway line.
I sent the elite Mountain Troops over the rocky crag head one, and the tanks on the left flank to cut the railway line and roll up the Slovskan right.
The Mountain troop performed well, but got entangled in a close assault for the mine complex into which the Slovskan reinforcements poured into.
The tanks rolled over the Slovskan support weapons to take the railway line, but then found out Infantry had to cut the railway line (DOH). The tanks attacked, and were both knocked out, but I force marched an Infantry Company over the ridge to cut the line.
Victory for Bergland. Now dig in for the counter attack.
-
This is really great looking fun
-
It was. I didn't mention the random event cards guaranteed to mix things up, the playing card activation system that ruins your best plans at that crucial moment (equivalent to rolling a 1 in DBA) and off table HQ where you pen your POWs

I posted a whole load more photos on Facebook:

Thanks for the link. Good idea with the off table board and the phone. :)

How quick do they paint up?
In the retro style, I wonder, as I have terrible painting skills yet these look doable.
-
http://nstarmagazine.com/mark_copplestones_little_soldiers.htm (http://nstarmagazine.com/mark_copplestones_little_soldiers.htm)
As quick as you like. You can shade them, but Mark's idea is you paint them one colour (no shading) and gloss varnish.
-
oh my goodness - that is just the perfect look with the varied shades of squares. :-*
would never have thought of it (love the Mondrian comment - although it hadn't evoked that for me).
-
Yes, the terrain is very apt. :D
-
We are mould making the next release now, Wave Four.
http://nstarmagazine.com/marks_little_soldiers_1.htm (http://nstarmagazine.com/marks_little_soldiers_1.htm)
With Christmas in the way, I think these'll be a January release, but we should have pictures soon.

They look like they are begging for TinTin to come as a war correspondent.

For me it seems to be a little faster to paint these up.
On regular figures I prime white then block paint, do touch ups and then shade with a wash. Sometimes I'll highlight.
With these I used the Army Painter colored primers as the base coat. I'm more careful with painting the equipment and do need to touch up the main color.
The first batch I primed white and then painted the uniforms which took two coats and still has some uneven spots.
The colored primer really helps. I've ordered some of the Vallejo sprays to give variety.
here's some photos on my blog

The table and figures have a very H.G. Wells, The Wargame look to them.
-
Wave 4 I think will be released Feb. Here's a look at the character pack that's part of Wave 4.
-
We'll be taking pre-orders for Wave 4 next week.
The list of figures is here: http://nstarmagazine.com/marks_little_soldiers_1.htm (http://nstarmagazine.com/marks_little_soldiers_1.htm)
-
Very nice stuff!
-
These look good - lots of interesting options, gee gees, naval infantry, workers!!
Still resisting - as already have far too many projects on the go. But it gets harder.

Taking pre-orders for Wave 4 now.
Here: https://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/prod.php?prod=558 (https://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/prod.php?prod=558)
Planning to ship week beginning 6th February.
The freebie with the Bundle Deal this time is a set of character heads for you to use in your own conversions.

There's a nice article in this months Wargames Illustrated by LAFer Dan Mersey about using Mark's Little Soldiers in his own 4th Punic Wars setting, worth a read.

Makes it hard to resist - but as I said earlier, I need another scale like I need a hole in the head (which my wife would give me!).
-
Now, 'Best Laid Schemes of Mice O' Men' and all that, but Mr Copplestone himself is planning to bring Mark's Little Soldiers as a demo game to the Partizan Show Newark UK in May. if you're a fan, and are within travelling distance, come along. Mark'll be using his own rules, so you can get an idea about how he sees his games running.

Oh darn! I really would love to see this, but rather unsure if I can persuade my wife to go for a holiday to the UK, just so I can play with model soldiers with Mr C. himself.

I hope it’s alright to post my photo in this thread?
Berglander Assault Troops
Officer, LMG, SMG x2 Flamethrower and Riflemen x7.
Used single colours mainly with occasional highlight, heavy blacklined and high-gloss varnish finish.
Will take some better photos at some point – these just on my phone in daylight. (Though with glossy finish there’s only so much a camera can do.)
-
Orctrader, Very nice figures. Thanks for sharing.

These look great!
I like the German look of these, but not the direct copy of German uniforms. I think if I get some of these (I’m just trying to find an excuse at the minute!) I’d really struggle to design the uniforms - too much choice!
-
Love the camo on the helmets!
-
Love the Berglander - especially the camo helmets!
-
We took our game using manks little soldiers to Plymouth association wargames annual show this weekend just gone
-
Nice planes - and tanks! Are the planes Sarissa Precision? And can I ask who manufactures the tanks? Very good looking game!
-
I feel being backflipped in time. Wonderful
-
If you are coming to Partizan in Newark this May, Mark is planning to bring his MLS terrain and figure collection to put on a display game.
Come and say hello and have a chat with Mr Copplestone. I'll be there holding his hat and coat, just a cursory nod in my direction will suffice.

I'm enjoying painting the MLS and we've played a few games with them. Last night the discussion turned toward how the figure packs were set up. Overall I think they're fine but I wouldn't mind being able to get a pack of just the Panovian officer in Kepi or the Berglander officer in cap. A pack of kneeling figures to use as assistant gunner for the HMG would be handy.
I do understand the logistics of molding and packaging things may not make this all that practical but thought I'd throw it out there.
Any thoughts?

I think there's little to no chance of Mark designing the kneeling figure.
Specific figures? Drop us an email, I'm sure we could sort something out.
-
Nick, Thanks for the reply. As to the kneeling figures I was thinking more along the line of the existing figures packed differently. As to the others I'll get in touch.
-
I bought additional artillery crews to get kneeling figures for HMG assistants. It means more of my gun crew are holding shells which didn't seem a bad bargain :). The extra telephone operators went into my HQ units, the mortar teams and so on.
-
Mark is putting Wave 5 together at the moment, there's pictures on his Instagram page.
Part of the release are Militia Standard Bearers, here our Kev has painted one up carrying the Black Country flag (upside down, not sure he knew that)
-
Something only West Bromwich Albion fans are likely to notice and who cares what they think. You can always tell 'em it's the international signal for distress at sea. They'd be used to the notion and think it apt. ;)
Nicely painted, both figure and flag.
-
We're making 3 of the new packs of Mark's Little Soldiers now, the Militia Std Bearers, the Paratroopers and the Paratrooper officers.
The full release will be:
SL10 Slovskan Paratroopers
SL11 Slovskan Paratroopers Officers
ML01 Militia Standard-Bearers
CH02 Characters 2
BR01 Advancing Infantryman in Brodie Helmet
BR02 Separate Heads in Brodie Helmet
The characters 2 pack are the figures lots of people have already got free with the deals, photographed below.

Mark is detailing his preparations for the game he's putting on at Partizan in May over on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/marks_little_soldiers/ (https://www.instagram.com/marks_little_soldiers/)
I mentioned I'll be there helping, I believe another fan of shiny toy soldiers is coming along as well to 'hang out' and hopefully push some figures around.
I'll have a trade stand with the MLS range on it at this next Partizan, but as always, to avoid disappointment, if there's something you want, give us a pre-order to bring along. Unlike Salute, you can pay on the day.
-
Mark brought his Little Soldiers game to Partizan today.
The scenario was to attack a Slovskan held Oil Field, and then hold it against the opponent.
I was the Berglanders. The game kicked off with a Berglander parachute drop (Using sycamore helicopter seeds). A couple of units landed too close to the Panovians and were wiped out, but the other two, with a fast tank support, claimed the Oil Field from the Slovskans. The first Panovian units to attack the Para held Oilfield were truck mounted infantry, but they were beaten off.
With an Berglander Alpine flank attack to distract them, and continued Air attacks on the main Panovian force, the Berglander Infantry managed to occupy the Oil Field and hold it as the day ended.
Victory.
-
That looks fabulous. :-* :-*
It's gone beyond the 'old school' gaming look and into something quite distinctively of its own. Kind of artsy. I like it.
-
Great looking game!
-
Wonderful (and what a pair - Ali and Mark!)

Is there any news on when the rules might see the light of day.
I'm tempted to invest (*cough*) heavily in these figures, but I want to know if their ruleset suits me first.
-
No news on the rules.
Mark has a set, it was in use at Partisan, but he is still 'tweaking' it. He spoke with a rules publisher at the show, so I hope something comes of that.
I'll be pushing for, if the publishing falls through, to have the rules as a download at the very least.
-
Do please keep us apprised. Seems that most of the current WW1 and WW2 rules sets aren't really "in the spirit" of his figures (very Tin Tin).
-
I was inspired by these posts to purchase a painted unit of Berglunders (and I was the guy who said I need another scale of WW1 Germans like I needed a hole in the head). Cest la Guerre.
-
lol
-
BYW
Although Mark Copplestone disagrees, because he has a very clear vision of what he wants to do with this range for his own gaming, I think Contemptible Little Armies is perfect for MLS.

A little "off brand," (and not to take anything away from Mike's wonderful little chaps - I now own 12 of the Berglanders) but has anyone tried standing them up for size comparison next to the old 30mm Tradition of London wargaming figures? (sculpted by Charles Stadden, Clive Knight, and Willie, as well as some SAE re-issues including Alpini and French) (and still available via mail order from both the Stockholm and London locations). It looks like Mark Copplestone is making a very complete range, but this option may have some scope for expanding the potential opponents (I'm thinking, e.g., that the Stadden 30mm Early WW 1 British, in visored cap, have potential. See below). These figures, while "state of the art" when they came out, have limited detail and if painted in gloss to match Mark's could increase the options (and are available singly).
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/AAAAAOSwR6Vk06~z/s-l1600.png
The Clive Knight WW1 range also has some potential.

Wanted to take the opportunity to post these pictures of my Berglanders. I can't take credit for the painting - I bought them off Ebay from a gentleman, Orctrader, who painted and sold them. Just fell in love with the pictures (despite their being in a scale - 30mm- in which I don't wargame, and despite already having many painted 28mm WW1 figures).

And he does !
Yes, I do. ;)
Glad they reached you safely and you're happy. (With Ebay when I send abroad I often don't know if they have arrived unless feedback is left or the buyer tells me. I'm sure it was easier in Ebay's early days. ::))
Anyway, your new unit first appeared earlier in this thread. LINK (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=137053.msg1783919#msg1783919)
-
Orctrader thanks again. They are very nice little troops indeed. I left you a very favorable feedback in Ebay.
-
I'm a huge fan of these figures, and they're on my list of projects to get stuck into for next year. I want to try and run something for my Dad and I to play, and we've played Contemptible Little Armies a few times so will probably use those.
I suspect I'll probably lean into the Tintin theme and do Syldavians and Bordurians, but I might Biggles it up with Maltovia and Lovitna from Biggles Goes To War.
-
The Panovian Royal Guards are the spitting image of the Syldavian Royal Guards !

And you might find this site useful:
https://tintin.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Bordurians
-
Oh, good spot about the Royal Guards! That settles that then I think. Syldavia and Borduria it is!
-
I like to think the Royal Guards would wear the red uniform for ceremonial purposes and a more appropriately colored uniform for combat (perhaps retaining certain regimental distinctions, such as the hat but in a more appropriate combat color than white, the red plume, and perhaps some appropriate piping).
-
Sarissa are producing a great set of models and terrain suitable for Mark's Little Soldiers. They come coloured as well!

Hi all. I bought some of these figures after I saw Mark's table at Partizan in May and loved it. I've been a bit slow with painting them, and took a snap of some bits a while ago. Hope you enjoy seeing them in eye-popping teal. I have a few more done since the photo and more on the way. Very enjoyable stuff!

Splendid

Very cool - makes me think very much of Tin Tin!
I do like the idea of the Sarissa terrain - still resisting another period!

Very Carpathians.

We're having a 'This Weekend Only' sale on MLS if you're interested?
https://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/list.php?spo=1&page=1 (https://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/list.php?spo=1&page=1)
-
Well I was interested! 75 packs ordered. Should keep me busy for a while.
Out of interest, why was only one pack of the militia infantry on special and not the other?
-
Loads of people bought the other pack straight off, sold out.
-
Argh gutted to miss out on the sale. Was away at Steel Lard this weekend so thought I’d get an order in today. Only to find the sale has finished early.
-
Was at a wargames convention in Pennsylvania a few weeks ago - purchased a pack each of the cavalry and Berglander generals to join my previously mentioned Berglander infantry.
-
Nick, any more recent news on when/if Mark will be putting out his rules?
-
No. I'll let him off as he's moved with his family to another part of the country, and his office/ studio is all 'up in the air' till they are settled in, but I'll still pressure him about it.
-
Sarissa have designed these tanks, aircraft and tokens with MLS range in mind. I think they are loads of fun and fit the aesthetic nicely:
https://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/list.php?cat=23&sub=79&page=1 (https://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/list.php?cat=23&sub=79&page=1)
-
Somehow these look more "right" than would more realistic models.
-
These fit in perfectly. The toy aesthetics are pretty spectacular.
-
H.G. Wells would approve.
-
I'm ashamed that it took me so bloody long to order some of Mark's Little Soldiers, but they are BEAUTIFUL crisp castings... going to get "cracking" on these over Easter 8)
-
We had the fictional Balkan madlads out for a game last night. There was a bit of a border dispute between the Kingom of Dungary and the Republic of Moldania that needed resolving but I think it only increased tensions between the two countries.
The models look super duper on the table. Sorry for the not-great pictures, its all I could manage!

Love that tank - is it a die cast, or a resin model that you've glossed up?
-
It's a 3D printed model with a good dollop of gloss varnish.

The tank is a perfect fit.

Nice.

The tanks are fantastic.

The Dungarians are in green, the Moldanians in stylish blue. Calls for a more practical uniform have been resisted so far.
-
One might be forgiven for thinking the Dungarians would be in dungarees. lol
-
Played a game last night. We used a variant of A Gentleman's War.

It is the Lancia mdf kit that Warbases sell. The turret is half a polystyrene ball with a bit of paintbrush stuck in it.
