Dice query
« on: September 21, 2013, 07:57:04 PM »
I was going to try a VSF game tonight and spent ages considering which rules to use.  I was leaning towards Empire of the Dead when I noticed one of my die had not so much as a chip but one corner that was not quite as square as the others.

Do you think if I was to roll it say three times and take an average of the results it would be fair? or should I really be using five or six rolls to give a better spread attaining the mean?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

cheers  Svennn

You have to roll more than 1,000 before it's statistically valid.

Only if it seems to roll lots of high scores. If it constantly rolls a fail your opponent will accept it now.

After a rough and tumble life, serving in countless battles and tables afar, a chipped die has earned the right to retire with honors. I pray, let the old boy go, he’s rolled enough.

Or take it back to the shop for a refund.

Thanks guys, all very helpful.  I will wait until the next con and pick up a replacement die.

The game got cancelled anyway when we realised we had figures from various manufacturers and there was no-one else around to check if this was ok.

The advantage of IHMN is that it doesn't matter who's figures you have, the figure/company creation system allows you to just use what you have already  :D

Old dice should be cremated in a duly solemn ceremony, or repurposed as wound-markers and the like.

You fool! Condition of surface NEVER mattered!

You must immediately hold a seance to determine if the said cube is cursed. Trials can give an indication, but you must consult a learned die lord, to be sure! And, don't trust a Ouiji board!

And I'm thinking baout asking the Mods to move this to Gothic Horror as you refer to EOTD.

Hope you get another chance to play.....

thebinmann, it looks like that die has a bump on it. You could file it down a little and keep using it just fine.

All dice, no matter how odd or many sided are useful! I think I still have a rule set from 1979 that requires a chipped die when rolling critical hits with a kangaroo signal whip or perhaps a quirt.

Thanks guys, all very helpful.  I will wait until the next con and pick up a replacement die.

File all other corners (of all your dice) until they are all the same, then it doesn't matter any more.
