Title: Return to the Valley that Time Forgot II: the complete campaign
Post by: Tsune on August 07, 2010, 04:10:15 PM
Hi,

This week we played the first part of the new campaign: Return to the Valley that time forgot II: Benito's revenge.

It continues the last campaign, Return to the Valley that time forgot: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=3967.0.

The campaign has four scenarios, and we played the first two. Probably we end it next week, if our wives allow it!

The last campaign ended without accomplish the objectives of coming back to civilization with enough proofs of the existence of dinosaurs and the Valley. So, the idea of the new campaign is that, once back in home, they have an impact in the social media but not in the academic circles. Trying to start a new and final expedition turns out to be difficult, as nobody wants to risk their money, until the news that, in the old continent, a private expedition wants to catch all the glory for themselves and then, moved for national pride, some private investors and newspapers finance the american expedition  lol.

Nevertheless, from the beginning they meet many difficulties since someone is sabotaging his plans, bribing his suppliers and putting difficulties to their advance, and always behind it there appears the hand of such a Prof. O.B., the leader of the rival expedition. Regardless, thank to their previous experience, they manage to cut distance and catch the rival expedition in the last village before get into the Lost Valley.

We played with the .45 rules, by the way.

Scenario 1: The infamous Prof. Beef

The first scenario happens in a little river village. There, the heroes (a big game hunter, a industrialist, a professor, an ace reporter and an secondary actor) find that the boat they hired has been contracted by the mysterious Prof. O.B., as they have arrived one week later that the stipulated date. So, the rival expedition has a boat and they have not, but there is a small boat that could do the job in the pier. The problem, the boat captain says, is that the boat is going to depart river up as soon as the workers finalize to load the cargo. If the boat owner, Her Straatman, agrees to carry them, he will be willing to accompany them in their adventure.

So, the scenario objectives are three:
-Find the infamous  Prof. O.B. out, know about his expedition and tell him that this is a gentlemen game, and so they expect from now.
-Meet Her Straatman and convince him to hire his boat.
-Find some food and arms and ammunition suppliers for the expedition into the Valley.

Here you can see the scenario board:

At the center there are seven workers with the load. As soon as 14 loads are carried into the boat, the scenario end and the heroes lose (in the practice, a total of 14 worker trips from the center to the boat). There are 14 markers on the board too, representing possible events.

A picture of the center of the village:

And, in the down-left corner, there are some captured animals waiting to be sold to some European zoos:

And they are worth seeing even to the native people:

The heroes rush to the markers. Soon, the Professor meets Mahmut Medina and his monkey Pico, who belongs to the rival expedition. Mahmut jokes the hero and says that they are no rivals enough to Prof. Osborne Beef, the leader of his expedition. Then, send Pico to spy the heroes.

On the other hand, the big game hunter meets another rival, O’Brannigan. Soon they have a confrontation and the hero bites the dust. But Ms. Lovelace, the nice paleontologist hired by Prof. Beef, stops the fight and ask for pardon for the behavior of her companion, and wish them luck. The hunter offers her a position in his expedition, but she rejects saying that she has to respect her contract.

At the same time, the ace reporter is called from a figure hiding in the shadows. He is Tarzan, who asks them for help to free the animals. There are some guards and he has to calm the animals down and guide them to the jungle.

It could be a good idea, when the industrialist finds Her Straatman and it is not possible to persuade him. He is going to sell the animals for a big amount of money next week, so he does not need to hire his boat. Perhaps, if the animals are lost…

At the opposite side of the board, the actor finally finds the infamous Prof. Osborne Beef and his enforcer Panayotas Karimakis, but he is so impressed that cowardly is not able to say nothing (with the corresponding booing of the players). But they have now meet all the members of the rival expedition and know who they are.

At the top of the board, there is a fierce competition for the markers: the professor vs. Pico. But the monkey is too fast and steals them two vital markers. The professor, angry, tries to punch Pico and makes him some bruises. In revenge, Pico throws him some poo and impact him in the face (hurrahs! from the other players, who were saying the player gaming the prof. that he has to run to the markers instead to fight with Pico).

But the game seems controlled as the hunter creates confusion with the workers not letting to pass. When the foreman appears, an “involuntary” movement and he is thrown to the river. The confusion gives the other heroes more time to accomplice their objectives.

With this extra time, the heroes start to work as a team. The reporter lures the guard off the cages with the excuse of making him an interview, while the industrialist, in the background, starts to open the cages and free the animals.

When Her Straatman finds out that he has no animal to sell, agree with the hunter to hire his boat.

It seems that the heroes are going to win, when something unforeseen happens. The prof. hero continues to be angry with Pico, and Mahmut sees an opportunity to impede the success. He starts to cry that the prof. is ill-treating animals and boys, and soon a multitude circles them. Pico, well trained, goes prone and crawl to cause great a great effect. The players knew that if they cause too much trouble, they could be arrested and then lost the game (as they could be delayed one or two days).  The reporter, a charismatic gut, tries to persuade the law that it has been nothing, but Prof. Beef mesmerize him and so become “invisible” to all. Without help, is the hero word vs. Mahmut’s, and the victory is going to be decided by a dice. But do you remember that Pico thrown some poo to the hero’s face?  Yes, and it gives him a -2 to the BR test! The dice are rolled and… the player wins!! The official is convinced that nothing serious has happened and it is a victory to the heroes. Well done!

Thank you for your kind words.

And Benito appears in the third scenario  ;D.

Scenario 2: The hunt for proofs.

This scenario was planned to let the players think that they can accomplish their main objective of taking proofs of the Valley existence, but in reality is an interlude to the last two scenarios, to debilitate them when the plot gives an unexpected turn and the action and havoc break!

So, as they won the first scenario, they have 10 turns to explore the land, plus one turn for each point of food they bought at the village. There were two event decks. The first one counting the game turns and in each card was described some generic event: drum sounds in the air, ammunition or food in bad condition, fever, etc. some of the ideas stolen from one LAF discussion about possible events in an African expedition. They have some fixed events, as the plot demands it.

The second deck was for the markers in the board, and the cards were aids, traps or some unexpected events.

Also there was a spawn point where some dinosaurs could appear.

The objective is simple: to collect proofs.

Here you can see a picture of the board:

And a close up of the pteradons:

The players split in two teams. The first one soon finds ruins of an ancient civilization there were unaware of. But some hieroglyphs warn about certain dangers:

Also, the industrialist finds an ancient amulet, but it is close to a nest of little dinosaurs. The dinosaurs are very aggressive and the hero is in great trouble and gets some injures before, with the inestimable help of the hunter, kill them.

The second team finds a protoceratops and he can be an irrefutable proof (I painted it in the morning and I had no time to base it...).

But to make the thing more difficult, they have to prove their skill. I gave them a little rope and had to capture de protoceratops with it! After some training throws, the player gaming the reporter, who was the one who found the dinosaur, throws the rope and have success in his first attempt!!!! (this feat was accompanied with hurrahs, cheers and cries from the players, all of us more than 30’s… lol).

But in the meantime, something horrible happens! A plesiosaurus attacks the anchored boat, and sinks it, and eats two porters!!! The players will have to find another way to exit the Valley (as was expected, obviously  ::)). But they never would know it… (we forget to take a picture… sorry).

On the other side of the board, the first team has more problems, as the professor is ambushed by three velociraptors. The cracking shots of the hunter save the day one more time, but not after being badly injured.

And the hunter gets his reward in the form of some dinosaur eggs!

At this moment, the two teams join together only to find the bloody remains of the Prof. Osborne camp!! When they are discussing if they had to rescue them (mainly the nice paleontologist) or not, they feel someone is watching them and, suddenly, they found themselves surrounded by dozens of warriors!! This was a fixed event that ended the scenario.

The scenario ended with the heroes captured, and the plot will continue in the third part: God saves King Benito!

Lastly, a picture of some of the cards we used and the gaming table:

Nice pair of linked scenarios, can't wait to see the rest!

I recognize a number of those dinosaurs - the awesome partially-out-of-production HLBS range! I have a lot of the same critters, but haven't done anything nearly this cool with them yet!

I like the colourful crests on the pterosaurs, I think mine need more colour now...

Yes, they are the HBLS ones, altough I buy them from Copplestone two Salutes ago. Beautiful minis. I was to paint them plain brown, but found a picture in google with these colours and I liked them. I am happy with the final result.

Seriously, these are some great scenarios.
The animals, the scenery, the monkey, and even the interaction among the scenario characters in the first scene are AMAZING.  What a complete, complete scenario.
The second one has some great action, as well.

A very inspiring first half of the campaign.  I truly look forward to the next scenarios.

I too will be borrowing some ideas I've picked up here.
Very impressive stuff.
Please do keep it up!

Now to go and see the first campaign :)

How did I mis this for so long! This is too awesome for words.

Great scenery. Well-painted miniatures. And what appears to have been some fun scenarios.

I need to get across the pond one of these days for some gaming because between the UK, Spain, Germany, and a host of other countries, I am quite jealous of the games they put on.

Eye candy!

Consider your phantoplasmic idea of making separate river board sections stolen....  :)

This way there's no need for placing strange looking river sections on top of the gaming surface - instead you just add a board to the layout. Great!

One of those will be next up after sanding, painting, and flocking a new 3x3 'earth' board. I have my office/study/hobby/gaming room ready at the new house, and have my elevated table in position - just need to find the glue and the sand, and spread out some newspapers to protect the carpet, then It's time for Rock'n'Roll  8)

The flying bases are from GW. I had them for a long time and reuse them for the pteradons.

I thought the river board sections as an easy way to put wide rivers. I am thinking to do the same for some sea and beach board in the Innsmouth project.

And regarding the hobby room, you are a lucky man. Mine is going to vanish this month to be oficially the baby room...  :?

Actually, it is possible to make both wide and narrow waterways this way - the narrower ones can be made curling/swirling.

Just sand the 'dry' areas and paint the water before giving it a coat of clear varnish, or water effect if that's how you like it. Then paint foam as necessary for strong currents and fords, and the likes....

And you can always add another 'land' board to the other side if needed....

Well, my Master Plan comes together. Sort of. As stated, the room is not entirely for gaming, and I have to share it with my wife (she sews and makes jewellery, so sometimes she requires the mid-room table for cutting fabric and such). But I shall have my painting corner with little shelves for paints on the wall.  :)

In addition to the 200 sq.m. house there's a large garage with a huge attic for storage. Nice place to put the large boxes bristling with minis  ::)

Hi, yesterday we played the third scenario and half of the fourth.

Scenario 3: God save King Benito!

Last scenario ended with the heroes captured by the Wachinga warriors and guided to their village. There, they are confined in a hut for some hours until someone enters to greet them. He is Prof. Hauptman!! Who, in theory, died in the volcano explosion (that’s happened in the last scenario of the previous campaign).

This is a picture of the board, waiting to start the game:

Hauptman has enough time to explain them that, in the volcano, when all was falling apart, Benito appeared. He has not fallen to the lava but, in the last moment, he managed to hang from a rock and save himself. There, he had found a hidden passage and guided Hauptman and his enemies (the Wachinga warriors who were fighting them) to it. They followed the passage until they found an exit to a lost city. But in the meantime, some of the Wachinga ate some seeds they had found on the caves, and fell ill. Seemed that the seeds had germinated inside them, and in seconds they become zombie-plants! The survivors fought the beings and arrived to the village, but a lot of them become infected. Benito was the key again, as seemed that his animal instinct allowed him to detect the infected ones, and thanks to him they were able to fight them back. He also explains that, two days ago, the warriors captured the Prof. Beef expedition, and the Wachinga king has sacrificed his askaris and porters, but not the white expedition members (with the exception of the boat captain) as Prof. Beef seems to have a strange influence over him, though not for much more time as the shaman demands to sacrifice them all to their gods, or at least Ms. Lovelace, as she is “only” a woman:

The heroes and guided to the pit of death! There, the Wachinga king tells them that he would kill them all, as they have bring them all the misfortunes, but some of the village elder ones think that kill the “white skins” would bring their people more problems. So, they will let Benito, “the one send by the gods” to decide. The chimp enters the board in a palanquin:

But Benito does not dare to decide (he has gained the coward ability, and has to pass a GUTS check in order to take a dangerous or delicate action). So, the King tells that will be their valor what will decide, and one of them will fight his son over the pit. He makes a signal and three zombie-plants are introduced into the pit. “Who that falls” he laughs “is going to have the worst of deaths, and become one of them”.

In addition, the Beef expedition is forced to watch the spectacle, but Ms. Lovelace is not with them.

The prof. hero, as the one with the fencing ability, gives a step to the front (in fact, he won’t, but the other players forced him, as with the ability he can choose not to be forced back and resist more time).

Soon, Lungile, the King son, takes advantage and injuries the hero. Seems that he is used to this kind of duels and, in addition, the zombie-plants threat with entangle them with their appendices (they have to pass a DG test each round or be trapped). The hero is worried as in the first round he has to spend 4 Hero Points and, at the end, falls to the pit. The future is not very clear for the heroes… but in that moment, Benito pass the GUTS check when see his last owner endangered, leaps to the King and unbalances him, causing his fall and the warrior serving the pit door into the pit and opening the door by accident (this was a scenario event). The zombie-plants exit the pit and start to attack the warriors, causing havoc and infecting some of them. As the warriors fail their GUTS check, enter in panic mode and run!

This is the event that allows the rest of heroes to start playing. Their first action is unexpected (for me at least), and two of them climb the pit and, adding their strength, remove the plank causing the fall of Lungile to the pit and creating a easy way to exit the pit to their friend!:

The players’ objectives are four:
-   To recover their weapons, as they think that they would have to exit the valley through the Lost City full of dangers.
-   To recover the proofs they found of the Valley existence.
-   Find Ms. Lovelace and save her.
-   To save as many civilians as possible from the zombie-plants.

And 14 markers are placed on the board representing the weapons, clues, Ms Lovelace, more warriors and civilians, and some surprises.

As the second son of the King, Mthunzi the Wise, manage to rally and reorganize some of his warriors, around the board there is a clash between them, the heroes and the zombie-plants. As he seems to be a reasonable man, after some troubles Hauptman negotiates a truce between the two men factions versus the beings that seem to grow their numbers each round, and the Wachinga leader agrees (BR test). That gives the opportunity to the heroes to rush for the markers and save the civilians:

In the meantime, the members of the Beef expedition have used the chaos to free themselves and start to search the markers. Soon, they are in possession of the weapons… and although they are forced to collaborate if they want to survive, the heroes suspect some treacherous action. But it is not an easy task for them too, Mahmout Medina is near to become a zombie-plant when is surrounded by four of the beings. He is badly injured, but luckily pass all the BW test to avoid being infected:

On the other side of the board, the heroes find more helpless civilians, or are they zombies? Some markers were apparently warriors or civilians, but there were a 50% of possibilities of being zombie-plants and they have to pass a BR test to detect them. Here, Mluda, the hired native guide, fails the test. Uh, oh… those civilians look… but at the end they seem to be humans (not as before, that M. Medina found three zombified warriors and was not able to avoid them…):

The warriors, with the help of some of the heroes, have managed to stop the zombies in a well organized defense, giving time to the rest to investigate the markers. But it is Prof. Beef that, one more time, finds the expedition proofs, like the protoceratops. The heroes are furious and talk about fighting the rival expedition:

But they calm down knowing that the only exit from the Valley is going to be trough the Lost City and the passages found by Benito, and probably they are going to need a collaborative mood if they want to survive. So, they continue to investigate the markers until they find Mrs. Lovelace, who seems injured as she is making a bandage on her arm. But before the hunter could do nothing, the shaman hiding the shadows attack him and hit his leg with the poisonous knife. But the presence of more heroes dissuades the shaman to continue the fighting and runs to the jungle. Lovelace seems poisoned too, as feels weak:

With the objectives accomplished, the heroes run to the exit as the defense of the Wachingas is starting to collapse to the zombie-plants pressure. It is time to negotiate Prof. Beef for the weapons and proofs.

That ended the scenario, that was played by 7 gamers (one of them played Prof. Hauptman and the other one the Beef expedition). They agreed to distribute the weapons for the next scenario, but P. Beef refused to give them the proofs. That would cause the Prof. of the hero team refused to heal Mahmut Medina and, in this mood of weak collaboration, both expeditions go to the Lost City in order to find an exit from the Valley.

We manage to play a part of the last scenario, and I am going to post the pictures and report tomorrow, and the rest once played (this week?).

Excellent and so full of surprises. I could never tell what was going to happen next. It made for an excellent read and it sounds like the players really got into their roles.

Hi, yesterday we ended the fourth scenario, which we started two days before. Surprisingly, we could game two days in a week, as the players were eager to conclude it.

Scenario 4: The gate

In the last scenario, the two rival expeditions escape together from the Wachinga village, as it is being taken by the zombie-plants, and face their steps to the lost city trying to find an exit. As they arrive, they are received by nothing but ruins and silent statues.

There is something eerie in the area, and only some dinosaurs and other unknown animals dare to enter it, like this pair of oviraptors.

The two expeditions, with some civilians, find the gate guided by Prof. Hauptman and Benito but it is closed and they are not able to open it by any means. The anthropologist tells them that all indicates that it was a civilization ruled by priests and the opening of the gate through the volcano would have had a religious meaning and it would have involved a ritual ceremony. So, they will have to find any clues about it in order to open the gate before the zombie-plants arrive. That is the only scenario objective: open the gate and exit the valley alive.

This is a picture of the board:

Then, the hero team and the Prof. Beef expedition advance to the markers (there were 12 of them on the board). Soon, the heroes find an important clue at the upper side of the board: the remains of a zombie-plant, covered by some sort of yellow fungus. The Prof. thinks that it could be one of those natural enemies and that effectively it has killed the zombie. So, he takes one dose with him.

And the heroes continue with their good luck, as the members of the Beef expedition only find false clues and ambushed zombie-plants, they find some hieroglyphs that explain that, to open the gate, they have to push the eyes of one of the statues in order to open a cavity at the top of the pyramid where they have to put a kind of key. There are not very clear instructions, and are accompanied by alerts about dangers and guardians, that they interpret rightly as some kind of traps. Prof. Beef rush to the hieroglyphs himself to read them, as he distrust the heroes.

And the finding of the first clue activates an scenario event: two pteradons appear and capture Benito and one child, taking them to their nest. Three new markers are placed on the board to try to find were the nest is. But they are lucky and on the first one they find it on the top of the ruined building. Seem that they would have to split the group to the bottom side of the board, as the members of the Beef expedition, who are in the area, seem that are going to do nothing to save them.

And they start to suffer some difficulties too: searching the ruins, they have to fight some unknown beasts that inhabit them. But they are playing as a team and are well supported. The industrialist fires the insect down before it could injure badly his friend.

On the other hand, the Beef expedition is much more unlucky. Two of his members are fighting zombie plants and searching another marker, Panayotas Karimakis, the enforcer, is ambushed by two oviraptors. They not attack him, but steal the dinosaur eggs that he is carrying in his bag (as they found the proofs the last scenario and they did not give them back to the heroes). Then, the hero performer fires the beast, hitting it and forcing it to drop the eggs, and then catch them. Seem that they have one proof after all.

Title: Re: Return to the Valley that Time Forgot II: 3rd scenario posted
Post by: Tsune on August 19, 2010, 05:47:40 PM
But what seemed a good action turns unexpectedly in a serious problem. The oviraptors are not going to give away their prey easily, and to complicate it more, three zombie-plants enter the board at that point (there were three spawn points on the board and each round I dice 1d10. When the count reached 10, 1d3 zombies entered the board in the seven firsts round, 1d6 afterwards to press the expeditions to open the gate as soon as possible). The number of zombie-plants on the board start to be a problem…

At the same time, the heroes find the second clue. To open the gate, they have to put the key, a little idol, on the cavity. There is a drawing of the idol, so they can search for it and three new markers are placed on the board. The bad news are that the hieroglyphics say that the gate, once the key is used, only remains open for three rounds and it would be able to be open in the next seven years, as the mechanism is refilled again. The players seem worried, more when Prof. Beef finds the idol, but give it to the heroes so they can open the gate.

And the finding of the second clue activates a second scenario event. Suddenly, Ms Lovelace feels wrong and turns to a zombie-plant! They found her in the last scenario wounded, and thought she has been injured by the shaman, but not! They discuss that could have placed Benito next to her to avoid something like this, as he can detect the infected, but they did not think in the possibility. They have, after all, one opportunity. Lovelace attacks them, but they do not want to fight back, as think they can cure her with the fungus found. So, they try to immobilize her (or it).

At this moment, seem like the scenario is a lot more difficult. First, they have to open the door following some unclear instructions, and once opened, they are going to have only three rounds to reach the gate and exit; on the other side of the board it is Benito and the child waiting to be rescued; and they have to try to save Lovelace. All while they have to fight increasing hordes of zombie-plants and suspecting a treacherous action from the rival expedition… it is easy to understand that the players are becoming nervous and can not stop eating “pipas Tijuana” (a snack)  lol.

Could they triumph??

Don't keep us in suspense! What happens next?!? :D
Title: Re: Return to the Valley that Time Forgot II: 3rd scenario posted
Post by: Tsune on August 19, 2010, 06:31:51 PM
Pressed badly by the oviraptors, the performer decides that his life is worthier than the eggs, and throws them, losing that proofs to the dinosaurs that catch them and exit the board with their prey. So, the heroes can concentrate in saving Benito and the child on one side, and Lovelace on the other.

They can immobilize finally Lovelace and give her the fungus, saving her from a terrible “death”. On the other side, rescuing Benito is not as easy, as the pteradons defend their nest.

The heroes agree that they cannot wait more and decide to start the opening of the gate because more zombie-plants are entering the board and are afraid to become surrounded and their way to the gate cut. The main performer (that I forget to comment that he had met their old friends in the Wachinga village as he had been captured too. The film company manager, thinking it would be a great marketing action for his upcoming film to go back to the valley, sent him with the intention to meet their companions but was captured before. Well, in the practice, the player could come to the game the last two scenarios) thinks he has understood the instructions and push the statue eyes, and he is received with a flame that can dodge at the last moment.

But he has accomplished to activate the mechanism and the pyramid trembles as a cavity opens at the top. They can hear some other mechanism activating too, but can see nothing. What other perilous await them? They do not know, and nobody decide to do the first step.

But the presence of more and more zombie-plants is a good pressure. Finally, the main performer decides that he can do it. He can see that the pyramid steps have some symbols on them and remember something about saying the correct litany when ascending. So, they have to pass a BR test in order to remember the right symbols and then a BW/DG test to jump to the right steps. It is not an easy task but he can do it… or not. He is badly injured in their legs. The players are worried as they can feel that they will need all their speed to reach the gate.

But on the other side, the heroes managed to save Benito and the child from the pteradons, but not before receiving some injures from the terrible and fast beasts.

And meanwhile, the hero prof., replaces his friend and, with three consecutive jumps, pass all the BR and BW/DG test and places the idol in the cavity.

The counting back has started!!

The gate has opened and Prof. Beef, well situated, is the first one that exit through the gate, but before doing it, says something to their minions…

But it is not going to be an easy task for the rest of the heroes, as they are dispersed over the board, and they almost have not remaining Hero Points to expend. In addition, one initiative won by the zombie-plants and they are over them! Although they managed to exit all the civilians but one of them, infected and turned to a zombie-plant. This is the case too of Mluda, the hired guide, that is killed and turned in one more being!

All the heroes rush to the gate, like the prof. that climbs down the pyramid and is ambushed by two new zombie-plants and with nobody to help him.

Two rounds remaining and the situation seems desperate. The heroes agree to use their last hope: dynamite! I changed the rules of throwing it to make them funnier (I think I read them in Astounding Tales rules) and the player has to throw a paperball representing the dynamite. There is a great expectation in the result. The player throws it and…

...the dynamite falls in the middle of the zombie-plants, but also Prof. Hauptman and the protoceratops are caught in the explosion. But the effects are disappointing, as only one being is killed, the prof. is badly wounded, and the dinosaurs die. As Prof. Beef has escaped with the remaining proofs, they have no one. They only objective is, now, escape alive. Lovelace exits, and M. Medina too, together with the two monkeys, Benito and Pico.

So, one turn remaining and this is the situation:

They have to fight away the zombie-plants, and in that moment, the members of the Beef expedition betray them, blocking the gate and throwing away some zombie-plants that were fighting themselves to the heroes to stop them! In the last moment, they exit.

The three rounds have elapsed, and the gate starts to close. The rules are that in the fourth round, they can try to pass the gate with a DG test as they throw themselves under the door while it is closing. Four heroes remain on the board, as Prof. Hauptman finally succumbs the zombie plants and die…

They have not HP to expend, so the success or failure depends on one last dice roll… Three of them success, but the ace reporter is trapped!!

And this ends the campaign. The heroes come back to the civilization, one more time without proofs of the valley existence… and strangely, there are no news about the Beef expedition, although they had the proofs. What is he planning??? Perhaps is it related to the seeds he found in the passages???
All in all, it is a “failure” to the heroes, who have gained a great and infamous enemy. And regarding the hero trapped, what happened to him? Is he alive? And will he be rescued by his friend?? That is, sirs and madams, another story that has to be told in another moment…

Thanks for reading and I  hope you liked it.

Great work, one of the things I most appreciated is that you play such great games on a limited table.
I have not great space for a bigger table and see that you arrange such wondeful scenarios on a quite little table was very surprising.

What they said... you hear your audience shouting, and are presented a crown of grass  8)

Especially the 'small table issue' is something I began using a couple of years ago, too. Even games that tell you to use a larger size table can easily be played on smaller ones, as long as you use lots of terrain.

It has a number of advantages:

That being said, I like large battles on large tables, too (I have staged 1/72 Napoleonic battles using my own Warmaster adaption on a table 3m x 1.5m - and I THINK that table will fit into the new study/office/hobby/gaming room  :)  ) - but adventure games will always run better on fairly small tables, where the interaction between friends and foes is inevitable!

As Argornor has pointed, there are a lot of advantages in playing in small boards games like pulp ones, where you want that the players have a lot of action as soon and as long as possible, and the interaction beetween them is need.

I am not sure with the storage one... or at least my wife does not agree  ;) as if you need less buildings, at least I tend to planning a lot more of different boards.

Regarding the action, I like to design the scenarios so the players (we play mainly cooperative games in pulp) has to do a lot of different things at the same time if they want to accomplish the objectives, so all of them have something important to do on the board. And I try to change the initial objectives during the game, or at least introduce new ones need to get the main one so they can be surprised. One important thing too is to introduce some kind of presure to the players: a counting back, increasing numbers of enemies, etc. Obviously, not always all goes as planned, but I am happy with the ending of this and the previous campaign, where the timing and enemies just work perfect. Some playtesting is necessary too.

Oh, I forget to say that my brother (he works as an illustrator) and I were thinking in editing the campaign and posting it for free here if someone is interested. So, if there is any interest, please, say it.

Especially the 'small table issue' is something I began using a couple of years ago, too. Even games that tell you to use a larger size table can easily be played on smaller ones, as long as you use lots of terrain.

It has a number of advantages:
  • You waste less time moving before getting to the action
  • You dont need as much terrain to cover the table - easier to collect/build several types of terrain sufficient for a whole table
  • Reduced need for storage space
  • Easier for a group of players to sit in close and get that 'rpg' mood going - even adversaries don't have to opposite of each ohter, as is mostly the result with large tables
  • Easier sharing of snacks and beverages  :D
  • Add your own...  ;)

-You can use the other half of the table for a post game fondue party.
-You can hire a hibachi Japanese chef to prepare a gourmet meal before you and your fellow wargamers.
-You can place a key board on the other end of the table and hire a keyboardist to add suspense to the game.
-You can also have a cocktail bar on the other end of the table.

Please do post the rules.  It sounds like the game was a blast to play.

Yesterday my brother and I were discussing how to do it. Mainly the English translation and some graphics to add (the cards, etc.). I am going to post it as soon as possible.

I will post it also in Spanish, do not worry  ;)

Thanks!

Hi,

After a long time, my brother and I finally have finished to work on the first scenario rules, event, object cards and character cards. We have worked to write it in a clear way from my notes and scenario rules.

Anyway, the most time have been put in the graphics and layout part, as my brother (he has worked in the property rights area) insisted in design and do the graphics and no publish pictures taken from the web (as I did for the cards in the game).

So, sorry for the delay and now, you can find here the first scenario in Spanish . I suppose that this weekend we are going to post the English version, as we finish its translation.

It has become a large document (well, really three of them: scenario rules, characters and cards) but we think you could understand it better now.

With the layout and graphical part done, the next three scenarios will be a lot easier to be done, so we expect to post them in a few days.

Please, if you have any doubt or question regarding the scenario, please feel free to ask.

The scenario:

The character cards:

The marker and object cards:

Thank you very much and sorry again for the delay.

lol Well, when I posted there the documents and made a test to see how to download them, I didn't find them at first too  lol

I created an account at 4shared to upload them, as I didn't know where to put them (my first thought was to upload them in the LAF but then realized that they were too heavy). Probably there are places to put them more easely, but I don't know. In fact I thought that they would download directly from here and not being redirected to their page.

The English translation is 3/4 done. A lot of work in the job this week has impeded me to be faster. But I think this week they could be posted.

Thanks all for your kind words.

Can't wait for the English version. It will be interesting to see what you have done.

Very interested myself - thanks for thinking of non Spanish speaking LAFers.

Wow, this is great! I had seen this thread back when you had just finished the first scenario, but for some reason I had not continued to read it. So I just read the whole thing this evening. I love it!  :-*

I bought the .45 Adventure a few months ago, but haven't played a game with them yet.

Your jungle terrain is excellent! Especially the ruins.

I tried to download the 3 files you uploaded to 4shared.com, but I can't get the character cards - I get an error.

Puedo leer español, pero despacio, y tengo que usar wordreference.com! lol
So I can't wait for the English version.

Thank you very much!

I have upload the file again. For some reason, seems like it has been erased... ???

The English translation of the first scenario is done. I am waiting for a friend that has been living at England some years to correct it and then I could post it here. The second scenario in Spanish is almost done too.

Regards
