Ahh, now I'm going to have to think of a good reason to buy something from the Foundry.  I already have the Westwind ones and the previous Foundry freebie ones, But you can never have enough consulting detectives.  :)
But after looking at them closely they look very much like the earlier Foundry ones with subtle conversions,  :?:

Umm I have just checked the original Foundry ones and these are definately the same figures with some alterations. They are not entirely new sculpts  :?
Holmes was holding his revolver in his right hand and has his head looking to the left and Watson was holding his revolver in his left hand and Doctors bag in his right hand. Shame!

Of course! The name of the offer is: "The Sign of Four Holmes and Watson Foundry Offer ", not: "The Sign of Four COMMA Holmes and Watson Foundry Offer". They are producing four model of the famed detective (and assistant).

Released: Holmes with revolver in right hand, head looking left

Just released: Holmes with revolver in left hand, head looking right

Next:
Holmes with revolver in right foot, head looking up
Holmes with revolver in left foot, head looking down

ahh, very nice...I was looking at ordering the westwind but now I have another option! In a way I prefer the older poses, they a bit more dynamic...great paintwork on both set and I love the base with the fence behind them.

I wouldn't view £40 too badly if it didn't equate to just 24 figures.
Not only that but 24 figures with limited choices (there are a few packs where I like only 3 or 4 of the poses).
If it was £40 with someone like Artizan... that would be easy.

btw, they're painted by Kevin Dallimore. Old ones are definitely better .The new ones are just a nice convertion, not more. Though would like to own them.

Is the older set still available?  I would like to have a set.  Anyone have a set for sale/trade?

I agree... the older set is more dynamic... the poses just look a little better and I prefer Watson also holding his doctor's bag.

I've been working my way through the complete Holmes collection, and, as much as those figures are cool, I don't think they look much like Holmes. Holmes is described as being tall and thin with sharp, bird-like features, which I don't think the miniature captures as well as I'd like.

It's also a little odd to me to see Holmes with a gun. Admittedly, he did have a gun with him for The Sign of the Four, but in almost all the stories it's Watson who is armed.

But that's mostly just being picky. I would love to have those miniatures, and was hoping that Foundry would give them to me after making me wait over a month for my order (on account of them screwing up my address then the guy going on vacation), but no dice. And with a first experience like that, I doubt I'll ever spend any money there now, let alone $85!

Definately true and I don't think Holmes ever wore the deerstalker and Inverness cape.  :( I think the TV series with Jeremy Brett in the role was perfect. He was always dressed in sombre black suit and top hat.

I _think_ I remember seeing him in a greyish Deerstalker & coat in "Silver Blaze", but given my premature senility, this is probably my imagination at work.

These items [along with Norfolk jackets etc] would only have been used during trips to the countryside, so a sober suit would be the most usual dress in London. Tophats, bowlers etc would have been worn at all times when outdoors, as hats were considered an essential item of a gentleman's attire. The dress requirements for Gentlefolk in Victorian/Edwardian times were more convoluted than present day military regs, so I've probably got a few more things wrong
:(

I really wish someone would make a miniature Jeremy Brett, as he is my favourite ever Holmes, even when his mannerisms occasionally veered too close to caricature.

Any sculptors reading this thread?............

I have the Spyglass miniature of Holmes and besides being a little shorter than his Foundry counterpart I believe this miniature captureshis facial features well.

You can view him here:

I bought mine off eBay but I haven't seen any for sale on there for while.

Cheers,

Barry

He had a perfect look for Holmes and with a turn of the manic when needed.

A miniature of him as Holmes would be great.

I completely agree, I will see if I can do him justice in Greenstuff myself. I am just working on a new Dracula sculpt, when finished I'll have a go at a Brett/Holmes in top hat and frock coat. :)

Great! I've got one of your Dr Who-alikes, so I'll definitely have a Holmes if & when he appears  :)

Wasn't the deerstalker the trademark of Basil Rathbone's portayal of the great detective.

I would like to see  a mini of a tall, gaunt Holmes playing the violin and a seated Dr with a brandy in his hand, for that cosy pre- or post case feel.

I got the new ones after taking part of Foundry´s 20% off bank holiday thingee (so you poor Lead Painter's league fellows out there will probably see some Darkest Africa teams popping out in the next few rounds). Now I wonder if there are any models of the Baker street irregulars around and good Mrd. Hudson.
