The Finnish War 1808-1809 in 28mm
« on: March 29, 2013, 11:53:39 AM »
Hi

I have decided to start up a small 28mm Napoleonic Skirmish project set during the Finnish War 1808-1809.

The Finnish War 1808-09, i.e. the war between Sweden and the Russian Empire was fought from february 1808 to september 1809. As a result of the war Sweden lost about a third of its territorie and a quarter of its population...

My first goal for this project are to preper terrain (much of my 15th centery terrain will be re-used) and paint 10-15 minis for each side to be able to play out some small skirmish games during the Swedish retreat in april and may 1808 , and then we will see...

I´ll have a short historical background at my blog and will add more about minis and rules in the following posts.

Best regards Michael

Great idea. Will there be a von Döbeln or a Sven Dufva miniature. Or Lotta Svärd?

I'm SO going to follow you on this journey!

Interested to hear what minis are you going to use, which Finnish regiments you are going for, what rules are you going to use etc.

I have seen and played few games using GDB rules (not skirmish, I know) where the game boards were very true to actual battle places (the boards included even real sand from the battle fields :D ) so it will be nice to know what kind of terrain you will go for in skirmish action.

Greate that you find it a intersting project.

von Döbeln, a Sven Dufva, and Lotta Svärd I all hope will be present at some stage.

More about the minis to convert as soon as I get started, but I will begin with some Russians.

For rules Im not totaly sure but I think Ill start with some small games using Song of Drums and Shakos but my end goal are some large skirmish using Sharps Rifles from TFL.

Best regards Michael

Thanks Aly glad you will follow my project. Indeed there isn´t much about scandinavian history writen in English.

Sorry no pictures of minis yet, but I have put some pictures up at my blog about how I built me some houses for my  Finish War setting and of course a brief history of the Falu Red Paint...

Best regards Michael

Stunning punamulta cottage Michael!  :-* I must confess that I will shamelessly copy that at sone point  :)

If you want to make Ostrobothnian houses, then yellow doors with white frames are a must. It's a tradition here (currently spending Easter holidays in Ostrobothnia).

Thanks Annti !

Seems like I have to studdy finish building and terrain more to get the tabletop right.  Here in Sweden the blue door with white are the tradition:)

Learning some finish to,  punamulta, ;)

Have a nice Easter up in Ostrobothnia !

Best regards Michael

I sent you some reference pics Michael :)  Both if your buildings are perfect for Finnish war game, maybe a Swedish Swedish veteran has painted his cottage door blue? :)
