Managed to get a half pack done and I'm part way through another four, I've got quite a few of these to get through and this thread will help me push on and get the unit done (hopefully).
Highlander figures have a very "busy" uniform, there's 23 different paints in the palette for these alone and that's before any mixing takes place.
So slow and steady is the key to make sure I don't miss any of the excellent detail on these fantastic Paul Hicks sculpts.
Without blowing too much smoke up Mr Hicks behind I have to say these are some of the best figures out there, they really are top notch.
Each one is a little character with their lovely plumed bonnets and big bushy beards.
At the moment there is only an advancing pack available but a command pack and skirmish pack are on their way I believe.

Top stuff Jeff, super work on the tartan.

lol
In our defense though,
I seem to remember that in 1797 at Fishguard the French were seen off by women wearing traditional garb! Thereby saving Britain from "it's last invasion" ;) :)

Love these. I'm going to wait till the command and skirmishers are out before I order some more, but now I'm very inspired. Really like that somewhat orange tinge to the 'Brown Holland' cloth!

Thank you I'm glad you're inspired that means a lot :) I was guided to this colour by Colonel Snook himself, so I'm very happy with how it turned out if it had been left to me I would have made the same mistake as a lot of proper artists who have painted this Regiment and probably gone with a brown shade that would have been totally wrong :)

Absolutely gorgeous :-*

Very nice work Jeff on the highlanders.
Best wishes,

Thanks both 👍

So another pack done and these Highlanders are starting to look a little more like a unit now.
They are a one off commission for the proprietor of Iron Duke Miniatures Colonel Mike Snook, who is going to finish the basing to match his existing collection.
I'm enjoying painting these, they are fantastic little figures to paint. They take a little longer because of the kilts, socks and band around the bonnet but well worth the effort I hope.
-
Look great Jeff :-*
-
Thanks Romark👍
-
Lovely job Jeff :-*
(But commission work? :o ;) lol)

All done!! 24 of the hairy blighters to terrify the natives lol. Off they'll go now to the owner of Iron Duke Miniatures who will complete the basing.
Later in the year I hope to paint a similar number of Highlanders in skirmish poses and also some command.
I've said it before but I make no apology for saying it again, these sculpts are really first class and are a joy to work with. If any of you decide to go down this route with your IM collections you will not be disappointed :)

Couple of photos of the Highlanders I painted lifted from the Iron Duke Miniatures FB page (with permission of course :))
The owner Colonel Mike Snook is a far better photographer than me, I love the way he's posed these as if they're storming a battery.
I hope you like them as much as me :)
There's also a shed load of photos over on the ID website

Jeff, you've done so much good stuff that I think I've reached the point again where I've run out of things to say about it. There are only so many ways to phrase "I like this." But I know you like to feed off the positive feedback (don't we all), so it would be churlish of me to post nothing. Please take this as my positive comment for this round, and if I fail to post every time you paint something new, just assume I forgot to say anything or can't think what to say. I severely doubt it would be because I didn't like something you did.
-
Totally get that Plynkes, I'm thinking perhaps I should do a few more tutorials (the one for the bluecaps seem to have been recieved well) or maybe an AAR from the games we play, it may generate some posts on rule interpretations etc.
Just posting pics of stuff I've painted can get a little stale after a while.
Though it does help me motivate myself to get figures done :)
-
Oh, I'm not criticising, Jeff. Please do continue posting your photos. No need to change anything you are doing. The only thing that is getting stale is my replies. :)

Will do and thanks matey lol, though I have been thinking of branching out a bit :)
-
Some AARs would be nice. It’s great to be able to follow the figures progress from the painting table to the game. To share in their fortune or not as the case maybe. :)
-
I would second the AAR but also the tutorials. Whilst I can't paint as well as you I have followed your last tutorial and improved my standard a little. Kepp up the good work. :-* :-*
-
They are gorgeous! Absolutely cracking paint job on fantastic figures. I'm finishing another brigade of mutineers first but I've already started on my 93rd regiment (36 men) as well. Just the faces done, and I hope to do the boat coats tomorrow.
The Sutherland tartan is quite sombre so will probably be a little easier that the tartan Mc Kenzie/ Seaforth trews on the 78th.
In due time I suppose Iron Duke will do the 79th Cameron which is a little more colourful and combined with their light blue- greyish shirts will look superb. Looking forward to these and to see what masterpieces you will make of those.
-
We'll that's the 93rd completed, painted the command pack which includes two Officers on foot, two Sergeants, two Ensigns a piper and a mounted Colonel Ewart.
I've taken a couple of photos of all the packs together except I've exchanged Col Ewart for a different mounted Officer and I've left out the two ensigns (ID will add their own flags and horses and will complete the basing). I'm hoping that ID will take some photos of them when finished and if they do I'll post some up here.
These figures had a large pallette of colours and took a long time to paint but I really enjoyed painting them. They have a very distinctive look and will hopefully stand out on any table they play on.
No more tartan (for a while anyway lol)

Beautiful :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

I certainly see no reason why not to do so.
It's always a pleasure to see beautifully painted miniatures 8)
