I though I would start this thread to keep track of a small Chinese VSF army I am intending to build.
The first batch of figures are imperial Chinese from Foundry.
Enough for two squads of ten, a General with body guards and two Jingals with crew. I have also got some swordsmen that I am going to use for ships crews etc.

I have also now received from, Copplestone castings, Do or die troops and the bandit character pack that will supply a squad of ten elite modern troops and some character for the army.
First off was one of the squads of riflemen/musketeers. From the figures I bought I realised I would need an extra officer to command the squads. So I have converted one of the swordsmen with some green stuff. A long coat and some shoes added, to match the other officer from foundry.

Now on to cleaning, basing and painting the first squad.

Keep them coming. I have painted about 200 of those Imperial Chinese so far and bought a load more in the last Foundry sale.
Great idea and work on the officer. If you need an extra Mandarin give me a shout as I probably will not find proper uses for the 15 or so I have.
Look forward to seeing these progress.

Oh dear, I can see the Chinese troops are massing, our thin red line is going to be stretched to the limits... ;)
Excellent project and a very nice looking conversion. ;D
-
I will follow this with interest, I have some Brigade Tong Gang figures and was going to combine them with Ironclads planned Tong release to make a nuisance of themselves in Whitechapel but a Imperial Chinese force will be a grand affair!
-
What scale?
-
28mm
-
looking foward to seeing them all painted up
-
Weheyyy, more Far Eastern nasties ;D
Keep `em coming :)
cheers
James

Well done. I hope we can look forward to seeing these in battle.
-
This is going to be an awesome project. Looking forward to seeing the results.
-
This is going to look good. Thinking way ahead, have you thought about some contraptions for these fellows?
-
Yes I have a few ideas :D
It wouldn't be a VSF army if I didn't ;)
-
Good man!
-
I have thought about a Chinese pressence on Mars for a long time now. I have a large Chinese force, both imperial & boxer. I have also considered a secret Chinese warlord opperating from a base hidden in western China or the Himilayas some where. Have over 200 Imperial & banner troops & even more boxers & black flag.

This is my take on a VSF Chinese army
The leader of the army is General Chunjing Zui’e. Under a different name, he was a eunuch Mandarin in the imperial palace for many years. But he was kicked out of office after it was discovered that he had a daughter by one of the imperial princesses. He was due to be executed for his crime but the head of a secret Chinese intelligence agency intervened and a petty criminal was executed in his place. A man who could hide a secret like that for so many years was too important an asset to waste. He has since risen to the top of the intelligence agency.
General Chunjing Zui’e has raised a secret army, clandestinely supported by the Imperial Chinese government and the mysterious agency. Using his own cunning intellect and supported by the greatest Chinese minds he has put together a small secret force containing some technological marvels.
The force is still in its infancy stage and is slowly but surely procuring modern weaponry. But the majority of the army is still armed with tradition Chinese weaponry. Plans are afoot to secure technology and modern weapons.
Zui’e has been joined by his daughter who is in charge of the clandestine, intelligence gathering component of the force.
The purpose of this army is to help china become the world (Solar System) superpower it should be.
His first objective is to remove the world’s colonial powers from his native land.
As for getting Chinese on to Mars – British opinion
Due to the recent years of problems with up risings in China, large numbers of Chinese coolies have been transported to the off world colonies. These form the vast majority of the menial labour forces in places like Fort Collingswood. The Chinese have built their own part of town. Law and order with in the china town area is non-existent, as they are left to themselves. The exact number of Chinese on the planet is unknown due to the high mortality rate amongst the labour parties sent out of town. But numbers are kept up by large fresh deliveries by every Aether ship that arrives in the port. It is believe that a lot of the coolies are just lost in the strange country or have been taken by local predators when they leave the town.
As for getting Chinese on to Mars/Venus – Chinese opinion
Not having their own Aether ships the secret army of General Zui’e has been smuggling men to both Mars and Venus, hidden amongst the coolies being transported by the Imperial powers. Once on these planets the Generals men have then got to work setting up a secret clandestine network, ready for the day when the Chinese forces are ready to take their rightful place in the solar system. On both planets they have been escaping from the labour forces to set up secret bases out with the Imperial powers towns. They have also been smuggling weapons and equipment to the planets with help from some unscrupulous white men.

Those fiendish oriental fellows! Whatever next!
Great background story. :)
Now looking forward to seeing these foes on the tabletop in the not too distant future I hope. :)
-
sounds down right devilish :-*
-
Of course these Chinese would support & simpathyse with their yellow martian brothers that have been oppressed by the White heathens.
-
Love that background Mac :D :D You could call it `Boxers Beyond the Stars` ;D
Great opportunity for shanty towns, residences etc with a true international feel (with a few Martians thrown in for good measure :D )
cheers

Great stuff GM. Maybe if things take a rum turn for the Chinese forces they can drum up support among the indigenous populations of the off world colonies (if there are any ;)).
-
I have nearly finished the officer conversion that started this thread off.

I think it worked quite well.
Just some tidying up to do and the base to finish. Taking the photo shows up some small problems that need fixed.
-
He looks greaqt, an excellent conversion :)

After the first disastrous meeting with the modern imperial foes General Zui’e has decided that his army needs some technological advancement’s to help him defeat these foes. To this end he has recruited Professor Peter Edward Wee, a young western educated Chinese inventor.
Wee has a severe dislike of all the western powers after spending four years of his life in their universities constantly getting ridiculed because of his second name.
With a large chip on his shoulder he vowed to get his revenge on these nations by building better war machines to help to crush their ridiculous western humour and to show the world the power of P.E. Wee.
P.E. Wee has armed himself with the best weapons he can design. His current favourite weapon is a self loading rifle modified from a captured Lee Metford.
-
Excellent stuff. I really like the officer.
Stowing away on the ships of the Gwai Lo is particularly ingenious and beats the hell out of digging a tunnel.
-

It always does. The camera is quite, quite merciless.
Great conversion and a fun-looking army!
-
P Wee looks great, I love the detail on the glasses and a great background story to him. ;D
We shall have to hang him when we catch him to make an example of him... ;)

We shall have to hang him when we catch him to make an example of him... ;)
Indeed, we shall make it as swift and painless as possible. Then again, maybe not...... ;)
Lovely figure and background GM.

Way cool. I cannot seem to recall seeing a Chinese VSF game/army before... Lots of 'unmarked territory' ahead of you!
Keep posting pics!

I love the smoke effect and it camouflagues the stand beautifully. Gorgeous figure and the finished unit should look magnificent ;D
However I can't decide if his face says "I have a fanatical desire to kill the enemy" or "Oh bloody hell, this rocket thingy scares the crap out of me" ;)
