Title: Looking for good plastic Republic Romans
Post by: Froggy the Great on November 21, 2013, 07:05:30 PM
So I'm considering selling off my early Imperial/Steampunk army to finance a Republican Roman army that can more plausibly fight the other ancient armies I have (Late Hoplites, Amazons, Late Persians, Mummies.  Yes, I know, stop giving me that look.)

I really like the Warlord Caeserian Romans and the Wargames Factory Caesar's Legions might be cool as well - that only gets me as far back as what, 100AD if that?

Does anyone else have any recommendations?  I'm specifically looking for plastic, and using metal only for personalities.

There was a company at Salute selling plastic Velites. I can't remember who they were though, I think Agema. Maybe they've brought out more since then? As I recall, they had plans to do a full Republican range in plastic.

Anyway, the figures looked pretty good, might be worth a gander.

Correct Agema will be coming out with a full range of pre-Marus Roman Republic troops and Victrix is also coming out with a Punic and Purick war range.

coincidently, I saw the Agema Miniatures 3-up greens today and was going to post here, for info.

They look fantastic - well proportioned, well posed and nicely detailed sculpts - ready for Renedra to do their stuff on. If they are due out for Salute 2014, these could be the start of my shopping list!

Very nice, and if they had legionaries out they'd have my money pretty quickly.

How do they measure up to other Romans and/or other ancients?  WG and WGF figures are what they'd be going up against most often.

Those look spectacular! Love the scowl on that first fellow's face.  I don't have any imminent plans to start Republican Romans, but if I do (or grab a few just to paint and play small games) these guys are probably at the top of my list.

Saw the original three ups last month. They will be well worth the short wait, while they get into production, for enthusiasts for the period.
