28mm Blackshirts (SCW period)?
« on: April 01, 2009, 09:49:45 AM »
Hello, everyone -

I'm working on getting some forces together for the Spanish Civil War, and I'd like to field some Blackshirts. I am having a hard time finding them. I've found some figs that might work, but they're wearing Sun Helmets, and I don't recall the Blackshirts wearing these in Spain. Does anybody know of a range of Blackshirts in 28mm scale? The guys with the militia type fez are fine (I don't think they wore Adrians, either, or I'd use CTV types).

According to Wikepdia(take it for what its worth) the black shirts were troops from the Italian facists who fought on the Nationalist side.  And as Orctrader said Anglian has some great looking figures.  look under the italian section they have ones in sun helmets and Fezs.  Like to get some of these myself :o

I know who the Blackshirts were. I recently wrote a book on the Italian Army. The problem is that I haven't found figures that are acceptable representations thereof. I appreciate the links, but those troops are CTV and Regular Italian Army. The Fezzes are, as the catalogue describes, Askaris (not Blackshirts).

I appreciate the effort, but these are very specific troops. Does anyone know a range that covers them?

As we don't have your level of knowledge on the subject, perhaps it would be helpful if you described them.  One assumes, for example, that they wore shirts and didn't wear sunhelmets.  Anything else?

Are you talking about M.V.S.N troops?
Practically the whole Italian contingent in Spain were Fascist Volunteers, they were given the title C.T.V ( Corpo Truppe Voluntarie) They were equipped with anything they could get hold of, including Tropical Uniforms, & Adrian Helmets. The Littorio Division had more up to date kit, and later on quite a few of them had the more modern M33 steel helmets.
So in theory, the Anglian CTV are suitable, as are the Bolt Action Italian Infantry.
