By the way Gripping Beast produce a resin church for £25. Probably more Anglo-Saxon than Norman/Medieval but would probably pass muster as a rural church or chapel.

Definitely Anglo Saxon. It really depends on how Norman you want the church to look. The Norman 'aristocracy' just tore down whatever they felt like removing to make way for their own building projects and I'm not just talking fortifications. If you take a look at the history of Norwich you will get a real feel for the damage they did to the local community- they gutted it.

Winston, I have the Magister Millitum church in my shed. It's a nice building and fits in well with my other buildings from Hovels. Not much to say about it really, looks just like the picture on their website.

Here is a pic of the Magister Militum church with a pretty quick coat of paint: https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JI85JKkf7I8/XMiqFjwQf_I/AAAAAAAAD4I/sLcoIHpea80scHr5mBpT1NXZtwcCpV8jwCLcBGAs/s1600/100_8156.jpg

Thanks that's massively helpful  - it looks good - but quite small? Is that fair or do you find it scales ok?

Winston, to be honest that’s why I commented earlier . It is said that it fits well with “Hovels”. To my mind these are more suitable for older style “”25mm” figures than the latest 28mm .

Sarissa make a couple of churches that might be suitable. The Dark Age Church is priced at £20 and they make an 'Old English church' that we have on offer at £34.99. Both are post free from my shop:

I'm currently working on the Dark Age church for a village project. Progress so far:

I suppose there are two ways of looking at size when it comes to wargames terrain.

If you're going to be playing skirmish games one might prefer a larger size terrain piece.

If massed battle; then something with a smaller footprint might be preferable.

(I'm not ruling out the fact that sometimes a happy medium maty be obtained.)

You pays your money, you takes your choice :)

The Magister Militum model is quite small - narrow in particular but it does fit well with other stuff. In that image it is with the Perry Irish figures if that helps

This is probably too medieval rather than dark ages, but Tabletop Workshop has a nice chapel.

I don't know if you followed up my earlier post mentioning Hoka Hey. Their basic medieval church is £16. Probably needs a bit of work to render to walls but that shouldn't take too long.  I must admit the Tabletop Workshop chapel does look very nice and is less than £20. I also see that "War World Gaming" produce an MdF  medieval church in 28mm for less than £20. It may be in the Fantasy section.  Looks quite nice.

I had a bad experience with War World Gaming paint stands. One of the sets they sent out to be was made with an obvious offcut and didn't fit together at all. not even cut remotely right. Quality control was lacking or they didn't care. I was not a happy bunny. I got a replacement eventually.

The Amera kit is cheap at £12.99 but would require some work on it.

The 1st Corps Dark Age church is a little too early as its Romano British at push early Saxon.
If you do choose to pimp an mdf church blank. Then I'd personally avoid the Branded version. Opting for a trawl of ebay as its much easier to find a starting point model nearer to your personal interpretation/expectations from as little as £12. A while back I mused on this subject looking to simply enjoy painting something I hadn't had to make myself. In the end it worked out both cheaper and more enjoyable to pimp an off brand mdf blank.
If your willing to spend a little more then it maybe worthwhile looking at Adrians Wall's similar in set up to Grand Manner prepainted resins . I believe their prepainted resin darkage church is around the £57-£58 mark.
Also there's quite a few kitchen table modelers flogging 3D printed churches floating around on auction site's admittedly some of the are trying to put their kids through college with a single sale.
I'd also have a look at the workbench board as well. As a church is a very useful piece of kit . You'll find plenty of inspirational 'How to' Church building threads. You might end up building your own.

Mark.

Norm on his recent War of the Roses, Never mind the billhooks post has got the old Airfix/dapol plastic kit which you can pick up for about £5 1/72 but as Aelthing points out it depends if you want skirmish (big) or something slightly smaller, I think it works rather well.
Alternatively https://caveadsum1471.blogspot.com/2019/06/?m=0
This is a  Hornby plastic church, again HO/OO but I think works pretty well and is definitely on budget!
