A big thanks to the South London Warlords for a great day !
-
Living in the other end of the country it's always good to see photos of Salute. One day.... :)
-
More games than I recall hearing about previously. Impressive.
-
Thanks for the pics, looks like some great tables.
-
Looks great - who put on the Jurassic Park board?
-
Thanks for the pictures Eric, lovely games!
-
Thanks very much, Eric.

pass but it looked fun...
-
Cheers Giles. Effort much appreciated 8)
-
Thanks Giles, great looking games. Was there much to see in the way of new releases?
-
Thanks for putting the photos up Giles. What was your favourite?
-
Cheers for the photos Giles!
Did you not feel there was too many games using just carpet, blankets and battle mats this year? We noticed it especially at the entrance into the hall after the initial shambles of queuing! You would think to put on a nice display game at th door. First impression last and all that!
There was only three I can think of, that stood out. In reverse order.....the Jurassic Park board.....the Mierce Miniatures bridge leading to the big pillared temple(cool!)..... but the best by a loooooong shot, was our very own Jimbibbly! The Japanese castle was a stunning centre piece to a great board! :-*

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your photos of the games.

One day I shall go to Salute, yes, one day...
Thanks for letting me live vicariously through you!
-

Yes.
Mats and MDF at every turn. Meh ::)
Ah well, I suppose the current craze for printed velour mats is a slight advance on upturned Subbuteo cloths...
The Falklands table was more like it... And there were quite a few other lovely looking tables there with proper terrain.
Personally I always like the Gripping Beast mini demo games for Saga. Great little pieces of scenic modelling - very evocative :)

Sorry to have missed you...
funny you say that about your faves - I loved Jurassic Park (in sound effects) BUT dinosaurs looked too big
thought temple/nelson column thingy looked great and original
plus of course buy a bottle of Oshiro water and you to can build like Jimbibbly...

a massive thank you to Mamalute for holding the bottle :D :D and to Dr D'Eath for letting him hold it... ;)

Personally I think scenery sets a narrative to games. They help tell a story and add to the illusion of the era the game is supposed to be set in. Without it, it's just a board game like monopoly or snakes and ladders!! The amount gamers spend on miniatures( a single nightmare teddy from Malifaux is £13!!!! And don't talk to me about Knight Models stuff!!!) you would think an extra wee bit on scenery wouldn't go amiss!
Edit:ok, I forgot about this board too. It was on three levels ground, x-wing AND Armada levels! :o
-
Thanks for posting - we were rammed most of the day on the stand and I saw virtually nothing. Again. :(
It was gone 4 by the time I did get a short mooch about; it maybe that some had already started packing but there weren't any games that made me stop and go wow. Admittedly tiredness may have played a part in that though....
-
Can anyone offer any info on the game with the great big island?

Seems like a lot of terrain for a relatively few figures?
-
@ Silent Invader:
It was a wargames group from Jersey, and they put on a game based on the Falklands war. :)
-
Thanks. That makes sense. Looks like a great piece of terrain. 8)
-
Looks great - who put on the Jurassic Park board?
Bexley Reapers - Cretaceous Camp......Won Best Particiption game (I think)
-
I've never ever been to a wargame show. looks fun. I'd love to go someday to anything
-

And ably presented by two fine upstanding LAFers. ;)

Upstanding but didn't one look like he was on his knees?

I'm assuming that's mine, unless someone else had the same idea and i missed it on my quick jog around the hall! :)

Thanks for posting Giles :)
Anyone know who won the best game categories?
cheers
James

Jon, you were already looking done it when I cam shopping at Ainsty at 10.45 lol
Must have been a VERY busy day. Thanks for your help with my bits and pieces.
Great job on the Dags-hounds by the way. I shall enjoy painting them :)

I think you'd have won it, James, if only those last few figures hadn't been based on shiny pennies... ;)
(I guess that was the price you paid for finishing the castle on time after all! :D)
-
Looking at the pics I can't see a reason to go, way too busy, and apart from a few tables mentioned already it looked pretty average, hammerhead looks way better than this.

We'd started at 2.30am and a 20 hour day on Friday. We worked out over dinner that we'd had a sale ever 45 seconds for the first couple of hours - I was shattered by the time I got back home at 11 ;D
Glad to help mate and look forward to seeing the painted hounds 8)

It wasn't me that put them on and the persons responsible have had their wrists slapped lol
cheers

Oh the rascals >:D
Nick told me with a completely straight face that he'd advised you it was poor to use unbased figures, but that you had insisted... I thought it was wildly uncharacteristic lol
-
He's a sod isn't he lol

He's a sod isn't he lol
lol lol lol
I think the judge was less impressed by the missing roof on the castle ;) lol
-
Thanks for lots of interesting photos.
Looks like a lot of pretty high quality games
and others less so.
-
lol lol lol

Were you using it to stand on?

My humble collection of shots: http://imgur.com/a/ufAjX
Sorry for the blurry ones. My personal favourite, although I didn't get to see them all or spend much time looking to be honest, was this one (more images in the link):

It was only about 2'x2' as well, and a demo table for something like Bushido.
