The villa Corssini was one of the strategic points that saw heavy bombardment by the French
-
Wow!!!
I have this on my ToDo list and you provide me with a template ;D
Awesome :o :o :o
Could you share the measurements?
Many thanks!!!
-
I am afraid I cannot at the min, its a commission being done for me, but on the 19thC Wargames and Warfare fb group I have posted a series of build progress pics....I will check my emails and give you the base size
-
That's quite a piece of scenery!
-
The base size is 15inches by 15inches
-
Splendid! Thanks
-
Impressive :-*
Looking forward to see it painted!
-
Debris, rubble etc being added
-
Absolutely fabulous. Inspiring stuff.

Just calls for an Italian Wars of Unification version of Sharpes Practice
-
Shipka, the funny thing is that mid 19thC used to be my speciality. I have lots of books on the subject, but not read them for twenty years.
If you were interested I'd be happy to chat about what forces you wanted to replicate and then put something together. Drop me a PM if you'd like.
Now, if someone would do 1859 in 28mm I would be dancing in the street. Zouaves, Turcos, Foreign Legion, Imperial Guard; the Second Empire in full bloom. What's not to love!

Beautiful work, that's going to look spectacular :-*
-
A lovely piece of work. The villa will look great when completed.
-
Great work and fascinating period!
-
Texture and some painting started
-
Lovely work from Michael.
-
It's going to be a tabletop gem!
-
First base coat done, next storey floor hopefully going on tomorrow
-
Top level cut and tacked in place
-
There are no clear pictures of the rear of the building post bombardment so it is difficult to know how the upper rear elevation looked so only a little damage will be shown. From actual photos of the damage there appears to be no smoke or fire staining so it is fair to assume only solid siege shot was used.
-
Taking slowly such a realistic look and becoming more and more interesting and keeping us in suspense!
-
Can't wait to see this finished!
How are you planning to run the game....which rules? figs?
-
Emir, my first problem is working out how too fit everything on an area 5.5ft by 6ft. For figures I will be using figures from Steve Barber Models, so far I have a Bersaglieri suitable for Manaras unit, the others have yet to be commissioned. If Gringos40 produces early French at anytime then their Garibaldini will work..
-
Good luck !
There are some piccys around of 1/72 refight of the battle including a low relief version of the villa.
Would Perry Carlist French Foreign Legion suit?
-
If one could shave off the wsist sash, then one might be able to you use them. Foundry and Great War Miniatures produce Crimean French some of which would work
-
Shading being applied
-
:o Superb!
I am not very familiar with this historical period, but that's very impressive.

Everybody interested about this post, should read the following article Garibaldi's Defence of the Roman Republic and the prominent role the Villa Corsini played throughout the whole time of the siege.

Thank you for sharing this. I must say I'm astonished. :o :-X :?
...I thought that I had an overall knowledge of French history (as a wargamer and French citizen) but I never noticed that the (very-short-lived) French 2nd Republic was involved in this. You don't learn it at school. Although it's well-known (I mean well-known by people interested in history and/or wargames = a tiny minority) that Italian unity happened under the reign of Napoleon III and that's when Savoie and Nice became French, but it was some years later.

Except the Foreword which is only rubbish political propaganda
-
Painting nearly done
-
Beautiful! :o :o :o
So the bombardment hit the back of the building? Was it French or Italian artillery?
-
The damage was done to the front of the building, the rear elevation was a mirror of the front, this can be seen in 18th drawings of Villa.
The damage was done by French bombardment

Thanks for the response! Aha, so it was identical front and back
-
Correct, but I am not awre of much action that took place in or around the rear of the property
-
A good line drawing of the rear
-

French from Foundry's Crimean range, the same can be said Of Great Wsr Mijiatures Crimean French
Garibaldini from Gringos49 also Irregular Minatures
Italians will be produced by Dteve Barber Models, already a Bersaglieri fig has been made, a commission has been placed for a Civic Guard
