I hope I am not retreading old ground here, but I was curious if anyone had used any of Perry's Civil War sets for any colonial conversions. I would think the Zouaves, with a little work, would be quite promising. I saw a few older posts that touched on this but unfortunately the image links had expired. I am curious how well the Perry Civil War sprues match up to their Zulu and Sudan/Afghanistan ranges. Maybe this could be a thread for throwing around some conversion ideas using their sets? Thanks!

most of my Colonial French started off as Perry's ACW figures. They fit in well with their other lines.
My French Tirallieurs have had some of the trim taken off and head swaps (WW1 Woodbine Heads).
The ACW cavalry are particularly useful too. I used them for French Spahis with Woodbine heads and have made Frenhc Chasseurs too.
The Confederate infantry in shell jackets are also useful for Colonial types..as long as you're not too fussed about the particular shape of water canteens etc.

Couple of confederate infantry I'm going to use as irregular colonials it early Boers.
And a couple if other minor conversions made from acw and Sudan infantry

My 1850s Allan Quatermain from Child of Storm (as seen in the Colonial Painting Expedition from a couple of years ago) is mostly a Perry Civil War figure. One of the rioters. Half of his right arm, however, was donated by a Warlord plastic Zulu.

Fantastic! These are all great. I especially like the cavalry, I had thought that it might be too different to use, but I'm glad to say I was very wrong. The Quatermain character is wonderful, I might have to try my hand at some of their ACW metals.

Perry ACW Zouaves with Perry Mahdist heads would make fine tirailleurs sénégalais. From what I've read (and I'm a novice at colonial gaming) the rifles and water canteens arent correct, but that can either be fixed with some green stuff or ignored.

rfitchmc,
Here's a couple more links to 2 older pages from the "WargamingWithSilverWhistle" blog, covering the incredibly-talented Silver Whistle's conversions of Perry ACW Camp Set and artillery horse-team riders, and a Perry Carlist Wars Mule Team artillery crew, all of which are very impressive indeed:
