I want to add a 15mm Bedford water truck to my British forces for the Western Desert but nobody seems to make one :'(
Is there one out there I've missed?
Alternatively, if anyone has managed a simple but effective conversion job please can you tell me how you did it?
-
It is a pretty easy conversion, depending how fussy you are. You just need to replace the rear decking with a water tank. Some sort of plastic tubing (maybe an old vitamin container, or a short bit of plastic pipe?) capped off and adorned with some bits of piping made from sprue.

Martin - thanks for your tips. I am not the world's most gifted modeller! Could I ask if this is a theoretical conversion or if you have made one? If you have, which manufacturer's model did you use please?

Is this what you're aiming for?

That's an OYC , much bigger than the usual 'tactical' vehicles. This is the MWC, offically the Truck 15cwt 4x2 GS Bedford MWC Water Tanker & what you're likely to come across as a water carrier. They were fairly common.

From http://www.armyvehicles.dk/bdmwc.htm
Here's a link to one T, O & E for the British in the desert, showing allocations for Water carriers. (4 15CWT, so MWC or similar (eg CMP) in the first echelon MT of an Armoured Regiment). https://rommelsriposte.com/2013/11/17/motor-transport-organisation-and-numbers-in-8-army-november-1941/
IIRC there was a small British 'backyard' manufacturer that did produce a MWC in resin in 15mm. I'll see if I can find the link. It wasn't any of the well known companies.
-
Thanks Etranger; it is indeed the MWC 15cwt truck I am aiming for. There is a metal kit available in 20mm from memory, but if you can find a resin one in 15mm that would be today's champagne moment!
-
There seems to be a real lack of trucks in 15mm generally. Perhaps a certain Company who makes Soldiers in Plastic could step up to fill the niche.

Wargames Illustrated had a forthcoming "British" CMP truck set from PSC, I could not find it on their site except by using search function:

Rubicon, who up until now have specialised in 1/56 scale vehicles (and have a current and forthcoming range of trucks and lorries) have mentioned expanding their range of scales.

Forum participants have speculated this might include the smaller scales such as 15mm.

It was released as part of their recent Kickstarter. I've got a set awaiting building. I'd assume it will be on general sale soon. Nice models!
