Title: Camel-mounted Kettledrums ?
Post by: chicklewis on 14 June 2017, 08:24:39 PM
Found another fascinating reference in reading the 'Death in the Dark Continent' rules.

From the 'DRUMS' stratagem - - - "We restrict this option to the great camel-mounted kettledrums of the Islamic Savannah armies, - - - "

I have exhausted my search skills and have not found a single picture of how these should appear. I would love to add them to my pretty Hausa-Fulani army. I am capable of converting same, but need to have a target-appearance in mind.Dare I hope that some unknown manufacturer offers such a miniature?

Please advise.  Thanks, Chick

Those do look nice!   Thanks for the pointer.

I wonder if the Savannah camel drummers looked like Saladin's ??

An old picture of a Nigerian camel drummer...

And one from one of the modern durbars where the Knights of the Savannah still strut their stuff...

Looks like the modern ones at least have a separate drummer behind the guy riding the camel. Don't know if they did that back in the day.

WONDERFUL !   I KNEW I could count on you guys !!

Looks to me as though the Eureka model will work if the drums are shortened (flat bottoms) and head swapped for an Islamic-cap or wrapped face rather than a turban.

Ordered two of the Eureka offering.

THANKS much !

Nah, the official drummer of the Caliphates is Keith (crescent) Moon.  lol

(I'm sorry. I'm so very sorry.)

The Eureka one is really nice, but that Perry fellow has drums that are more on the money (less converting is good).

Plus you get a chap brandishing the result of a steamy night of forbidden passion between a coach horn and a vuvuzela.

I ordered the Perry set as well, and it arrived today.  Great service.  And the castings are just lovely.  I'll do a little converting head-swapping, and have THREE camel drummers !!
