Title: Don's SciFi Stuff
Post by: DonVoss on 17 June 2017, 05:59:55 PM
I quit 40k and somehow scifi gaming a few years back...
But in the last months I found myself digging throu my lead mountain...paniting all this old stuff....:)

First here is a Genestealer Cult killteam for Shadow Wars from the Overkill box.
I allways wanted to do a Genestealer Cult....:D

So here is the start of the cult...

The minis are very nice and easy to paint... :-*

Cheers,
Don

Never been a sci fi gamer but always think I should try it out and seeing your work makes me think it would be good to start!! Lovely work on them, really nice unit. :)

These are gorgeous! The patterning on the heads makes them look like Narns, or maybe the aliens from Alien Nation. Could you please take a close up shot of one of those guys? I'd love to get a better look at that patterning.

And the terrain is amazing! I love all of this.

paint jobs are the best I have seen on the metal guard, I always liked the metal models they had so much more character than the plastic guard offerings.
terrain looks interesting as well, any more photos?

Completely agree..

Cadians are more interesting with different heads but Catachans are almost unrescuable...

While old metals are all cool... And with such great painting they shine like a star

Ah, what you need is a set of plastic beastman heads (I think you can use Catachan arms on the beastman bodies as well).

I will have to see if I can find one.

These are just lovely, if that's the right term for it. You must live at your paint table to get so many figures painted so well, so quickly.

If I may ask, are you using washes and dry-brush? Is this layer painting? A combination of both?
Title: Re: Don's SciFi Stuff
Post by: DonVoss on 25 June 2017, 04:57:53 PM
Hi Michka,

I use army painter washes: Dark Tone and Strong Tone apllied with a brush over base colouring.
After that I paint 1 or 2 highlights with the original colour.

Hope that helps....;)

The nurgle marines are fantastic. Have you tried the AP Soft Tone on lighter colors? It works better than strong or dark tone.
Title: Re: Don's SciFi Stuff
Post by: DonVoss on 25 June 2017, 11:51:29 PM
Yes...I tried soft tone for very light colours.
atm I do only watered down strong tone. Works okay for me...soft tone was always too light for me.

Finished today the deamonic machine from the dark imperium box. Kind off finished....:)
