Title: Fidel and Che
Post by: carlos marighela on 20 March 2009, 06:27:20 AM
A couple of months ago I obtained a copy of the new(ish) Soderbergh film Che El Argentino. It's a great little flick and it occurred to me that the Cuban Revolution would make an interesting period for skirmish games. Beards, berets n cigars a plenty, would make very colourful minis. You've got the T-shirt now buy the mini sorta thing.

So I've had a  chat with a very good sculptor, who is interested in this as a project in 28mm. Now there are two ways I could go. Privately commission a range and then on-sell the minis to defray costs (potentially quite costly) or I could go to Eureka and launch it as a 100 club  project and hope 9 other folk would get me over the 150 minis mark. That's likely to a lengthy process.

So I thought I would test the waters and see how many folk would be intrested in a range depicting Che, Fidel and the boys in the Sierra Maestra circa 1958. If they sell I'd get some suitable folks for Batista's army as well ( which would probably be fairly useful as generic troops).

Any takers?

Oh and here's the flick: http://www.cheelargentino.com/

It's in Spanish but I think there's an English subtitled version around. Mine came only with Portuguese subtitles

Sounds  interesting Carlos. I've the movie Cuba which I love for the time and nothing is better than a good game set in this period -Very cool indeed.

It also depends on who designs them. I'm interested if I'm happy with the designer.

I know many of you might think of this as a chic-flic but the movie Dirty Dancing II is set in Cuba and runs a revolution subplot. It gives a good back ground for urban rebels and how may Cubans were forced to one side or the other by circumstance and not for any political ideology. Watch it with your wife or girlfreind and you don't have to tell here it is for wargaming background. And yes I would be interested in figures for this period. I do believe that someone out there does a Banana Wars range. That would cover a lot of the troop types you would need for the Cuban revolution.

I'd be vaguely interested (enough so to pick figures up at somepoint, even if only to use in other banna republic projects); and the figures could also have uses in Brigades forth coming 'Atomic Cafe 1957' game

Sounds like an awesome idea.  I know a few gamers who would be keen on a Cuba range. :)

I just bought the Che diaries, Reminiscences of the Cuban War and The Bolivian Diary, they look pretty interesting (and they're on sale at Waterstones lol)

Well if we are on the lighter side, Woody Allan's movie Bananas is a must watch.

I had the same thought when I saw the "viva La revolution" by Stephane
