Look at what I found for a mere 8 Euros in a local flee market!
Given my the 13th Gurkha Regiment's (Duke of Nutherland's own) involvment in my current NWF project, I just had to get it.
While obviously not military issue it is still a nice piece. Front heavy, which I suppose is intentional, but very well balanced. I read that they are often made of truck suspension leaf steel but this one is stainless which makes me think it is an ornamental item. The embossing and worked brass handle indicate the same. I hear they are often forged from truck suspension leaf steel.
I am nevertheless happy about the find. Very unexpected in this remote corner of the world. Makes a piece of myth enshrouded militariana more real. By the way, there seem to be no concensus on what the notch (kaudi) at the base of the blade is for.

"By the way, there seem to be no concensus on what the notch (kaudi) at the base of the blade is for."
That's for flossing teeth!
I've in the past, exercised with the Gurkhas on a number of occassions even in New Zealand and they are real find chaps. A sergeant gave me his Kukri which in turn I gave to my father. This was way back in 1979. Oh, am I showing my age 8)
Nice find and have you seen the Pontoonier miniatures?
Did you read those rules I forwarded onto you?

Makes me wonder how many teeth you have left.

Interesting. I did not know Australia employed Gurkhas. That they press *children* into service is shocking and should be reported. But it explains a lot about how you turnd out, Helen. :)

Nope.
Did you read those rules I forwarded onto you?
I am afraid not. My father caring for was recently diagnosed with cancer so I've been preoccupied with both father and son of Hammers, lately.
-
Hi Peder,
Firstly, I hope your father's health improves an I quite understand the time you would need.
Australian Defence Force in the past had numerous exercises with the Ghurkas both at home an abroad and sometimes along with Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
Yes, I still have all my teeth, which reminds me, I must book for my annual checkup.
By the way I've some spare Castaway Arts Sikh Officers, NCO and Buglers Interim measure) that I can give you now that I've Brigade Games and now just finishing off painting the remainder. Oh, you would need to clean them back with my first paint work that really was sad.

Great find, I have always fancied having a Kukri hanging on the wall, but never got around to it. There was a time a while ago where these truned up in every junk/cheap antique shop around the London area.
Its a very nice example, did it come with a decorative scabbard and a miniature Kukri as well?
(Very sorry to hear about your father too)
-
Thank you.
Australian Defence Force in the past had numerous exercises with the Ghurkas both at home an abroad and sometimes along with Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
Yes, I see. I was more curious whether Australia (still?) employes Gurkhas just like Singapore and Great Britain does (and of course India and Nepal).
By the way I've some spare Castaway Arts Sikh Officers, NCO and Buglers Interim measure) that I can give you now that I've Brigade Games and now just finishing off painting the remainder.
NMost generous, I like them and I would be rude to say no.
-
Nice find Hammers, and cheap too! :)
I picked up a service issue kukri at a millitaria fair last year (I collect odd bits of antique weapons as well as lead) and I am really pleased I did. Sometimes I just like to sit in the loft and hold it, thinking of how it will save my life one day when I become the Road Warrior...
...
What?
...
That's not weird at all.
...
It isn't!
:'(
-
Can you guys just buy such stuff and display it without any special permits? I had to get a weapons permit to be able to buy swords (whereas I could have bought a big, doubleheaded axe without a permit - as an axe is classified as a 'tool')
Our weapon control laws do not permit a man to wear a pocket knife, but everybody can buy a chainsaw...... figures.....
Am I just finding this weird because I'm a gamer..?

Not as cool as yours but heres a baby I picked up for 11 Euro at Mont St-Michel (France)

No, it did not come with the scabbard (nor a baby kukr). Just as well, I don't have to draw blood each time I unsheet it. Given my lack of deadly foes I would probably bleed to death from cutting my own finger so many times.
-
I used to have a set of 3 with the baby ones too. The largest was over 2 feet long I think it must ahve been some sort fo ceremonial one perhaps for sacrifices or some such as it was a beast

Australia never employed Ghurkas.

Well, you know, in Sweden they say that the armed forces only provide you with two sizes: Large and Much Too Large. Maybe this is universal.

Not a toy in the pointy sense, and I've had this for a couple of years - and it's been in the family since 1914 - but I finally got a photo taken of a piece of family history:
More info & links on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/wirelizard/3453629543/) - briefly, this is a tin that was given to Allied troops for Christmas 1914; one of my great-great-uncles was in the South African Infantry in France at the time, and this made it's way back to the family after he was killed in 1918. It's been in my grandmother's possession for many years, and knowing of my interest in history she passed it on to me a few years back.
I've got a letter he wrote home in 1918 too, a few months before he was killed.
The background, by the way, is the reproduction pre-WW2 map I first mentioned on this thread (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=10159.msg116956).

A reproduction medieval dagger and a eating knife to add to my costume...
The reason is that my new adopted hometown Visby with its medieval core and world heritage city wall (as I have mentiond before) has a medieval themed week at beginning of August each year. Jousts, a huge market, taverns serving capon on cabbage and rotisserie hog of the bone, blaring music, lectures and what not. It is quite good, I am sure, even in continental European and British terms since the town is preserved to an unusual degree. There is a LOT of people coming over and most dress up in medieval garb. There is even a tent town with baldachins south of the town where hundreds of the die hard [wiki=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Society_for_Creative_Anachronism]SCA [/wiki] people camp out.
Being new to this we thought we'd dress up Fiver as a monkey with Mrs Hammers as a gypsy woman and me as a jester but later chose something more befitting out social status (hrm...). I hope to post a picture eventually.
One of the things which struck me as odd was that although there were plenty of reenactors (@Grimm: even Landsknecht, these events attract all kinds of weirdos, don't they? ;)) there was not one table top game nor a single miniature pertaining to the period to be found during the whole week. Maybe there is a niche for me there, I am hoping to make a project out of it. More of that if and as it procede.s

A Schleich Sea Life Collection humpback whale whot I got for fiver, son of hammers. I am thinking about casting a waterline model from it to to use with, for example, Johnny Inuit there in the picture or my steamer project.

Wow, if I could find something that cheaply here I'd invest in a fleet of Eureka whaleboats and see if Moby Dick couldn't give Ahab the Jonah treatment!
-
Well not really exciting but some dice, hit location e.g. head left arm etc and some emotocon dice...I have some plans for adapting these for rules after playing a cracking Afghanistan game last weekend where they were used.

I just bought 3 Buddhas, 2 Chinese Statues and 5 Wall-E toys, all for 99P each and all for VSF!
The Wall-E toys will make great Automotons or Tankettes, I need to look at them scaled up...
I'm going to look out for bigger ones as fully fledged tanks... :D

I just bought another 2 wall-e's and a bigger wall-e! lol
Also a stormhawks condor ship, they are 6.99 in Toys 'r' us!!! :D

99p store in Coventry. ;)

From a tourist-trap store in Waikiki, where I'm on vacation, three Hawai'ian tiki idol keychains, each about 1.5 inches tall, to be used for various scenery projects - South Seas, generic Lost World, etc. They're cast resin made to look like carved wood, and the keychain clip part unscrews easily.
I might go back tomorrow and pick a few more up, actually. They're cheap and a good size.

The ABC stores were a bit of a bust, really. A large souvenir store in the International Market was where I struck paydirt in the Dread Idol department - and I did go back, so now I have six tikis to work with.
Apparently WalMart in Honolulu has a good cheap selection of souvenirs to interest wargamers, but I dislike Mall-Wart even when I'm not on vacation...

Right, I picked up the blue triceratops that makes up this guy's left arm. Except its head and tail are both missing. Luckily- and this is the reason I bought it- if you flip over the plastic mount for where the head should be a fist pops out.
So, long story short, tailless robot dinosaur with a fist for a head. I'm going to make it into some kind of magical fantasy siege engine or something.

A bona fide Chinese dadao dating back to the 1930. Thee were produced in huge quantities to arm poorly trained peasants so it has no great antique value but nevertheless a historical artifact of interest to any BoB gamer, I am sure.

Where do you buy them from, and what scale are they??
It's 1:1 scale, from Hollywood Collectibles - google them for your nearest distributor.
I believe the UK Propstore had 75 of the 1000 limited edition run, and pre-sold the lot, as they've been in the offing for over a year. Its in the "Brown Bess" paint job of the original props, but i believe there may be a "percieved green" version as well.
Fleabay may be the best bet now.
-
Ah, no, I meant the Vipers lol
I already saw the Colonial Marine gun :)
-
Akula...I think maybe you did win five figures in the lottery! :-*
-
Ah, no, I meant the Vipers lol
ah - the Vipers :D
MkIs (original series) are easy to come by - look for the Joyride version - its approx 1:48 in scale, although the pilot that comes with it is more 1:72. Looking at $15-30 a go.
MkII and MKVII (reimagined series) are much harder to find. There is a guy in Brazil, on ebay, that sells resin ones, painted and made up, and is probably your best bet. The better, but harder to get option is the now OOP Black Sun Models kits - neither is cheap - looking at $80 a pop.
-
Some brilliant stuff in here, I've got a deep interest in historical weapons and I enjoy looking at peoples collections online.
-
I should really get pics of my sword and my helmets... although they would not qualify as 'latest received...'

Yesterday I bought a Canadian version of the American M1 helmet for about £20 at an army surplus store and I’m considering changing it into an USMC helmet from WW2.

Is the Hollywood Replica also a Softair-gun?
nope - the grenade launcher pump works, as does the chamber bolt, the stock extends, and the magazine can be removed, but its purely a replica prop rather than an airsoft.
Is the pistol the solid resin one you see on ebay from time to time? Quite fancied getting one, but customs would go berserk.

On the softair the counter is working, counting down every shot and if you remove the clip it shows "00", nice feature ;D
Nope, the pistol is no resin cast, also not a softair version.

I picked up some cool toys at “toys r us” today, for use with 28 0r 15mm
1st is a minimate terminator tank goes well with either 15mm or 28mm. It comes with a toy terminator exoskeleton witch I thought Ii would not use but the more I look at it, it can make a nifty pulpy robot with a new paint job. $12
2nd Minnimate cylon raider which I have redone already for my space port but I wanted to do another as a medical transport. $10

3rd for 28mm post apocalyptic/death race/survivor vehicle I got a 1/32 so it says 1999 Silverado pickup truck from Jada Toys battle machine range. It goes very nice with 28mm figures and is already armored up, it’s a very cool piece the rest of the ranges scale seem to be to be or to small but the Pickup is great. $6

Is the counter working?
Nope it lights up as 99 when you slap the magazine in, but the trigger is fixed.
If you're interested in one I can contact a friend of mine, maybe he his one in spare ;)
No thanks mate - my little armoury only has limited space at the moment (and my cash is being spent elsewhere at the mo ;) )

Not really a 'toy' as such...just got my Peter Cushing death (life...?...not sure...) mask to hang on the wall above my gaming table. Was afraid the wife would find it 'creepy' but she actually likes it! Now to get a few more! Peter Lorre, Vinnie Price and Jeremy Brett just to start!!!

if it is the "world's smallest R/C helo" I wrote one off a while ago - its lateral gyro scope thing was a bit skew whiff - had hoped it would do as a UAV for Battlefield.... lol

I apologize for the shitty pics. I just had my I-phone at hand.
Today I got my Thompson submachine gun, aka Tommy gun, aka Chicago Typewriter-replica. Full wood grips and stock. And sliding bolt. Truly a masterpiece. The Tommy gun is really heavy and looks very good up front. :)
It's really not a toy but a prop for our short film Rum Runners. A silent black and white movie which takes place during the prohibition era in the 20´s. Shooting starts this fall with one of swedens best theater companies in front of the camera.
Don´t I have an understanding wife, posing with a "Chopper" and all. ;)

Not a toy, as such, but a model kit I have desperately desired for over 50(!) years. Originally released by Aurora back in 1957, it has now been re-released by Monogram - the Gold Knight of Nice. I had all 4 of the foot knights as a kid/teen (still have unbuilt versions) but was never able to afford this one because it cost $5! I remember seeing ads offering an original kit for well over $100 and that was 30 or more years ago. Way out of the reach of my wallet at the time (and of my brain, later). Now, for $25, I've actually fulfilled a childhood dream. Thank you, Monogram! (And since it's apparently a limited release, guess I'd better buy a second one while I can!)
Now, if somebody would re-release Blackbeard, Captain Kidd, d'Artagnan, the Gladiators...
-
Got this for my little dino crazy nephew from evil bay.
Needless to say that I started to really like it and got myself one too. Also needless to say that I found out they (company is called PAPO) have other great looking dinos too ... guess I gotta order again, will post pics when the second shipment arrives. :D
For those of you wondering what size this thing might be, here a comparision shot with a Terminator Priest from the company I will not name, Black Scorpion pirate female and an Urban War Viridian female Sergeant.

Enjoy ...

:o Totally forgot to mention that you can open and close the lower jaw of the Allosaurus (Big Al). :o

That a nice model...what scale is it??
-
@von der Tann - Haven't got that one yet but I do have the T-Rex, the Spinosaurus and the Raptor. Very 'Jurassic Park' but beautiful models.
Like your book collection. Read all of the Gaunt's Ghosts series and thoroughly enjoyed them. (Do wish he'd stop killing off the good guys and leaving creeps like Cuu alive. Gods, I hated that bastard!) I'm having a bit of a slog working my way through the Horus Heresy books, though. They're well written but ultimately depressing because you know almost everyone in them is going to end up as traitors. Betrayal is one of those things that really bothers me in books or movies, particularly since, seeing it from the outside, you know what's going to happen but you can't stop it.
@Paul - it's 1/8 so he's a biggie!
-
:D :D :D :D
As "threatened", here is the second shipment.

I really like them. Wondering if I should base them on a CD though. Might be a nice way of making them even more interesting. Maybe even magnetize them to the base .... sorry, I should talk less to myself.

Yeah, but the I really like the Horus Heresy books, because even though I know they will (almost) all end up as traitors, I find myself reading the book going "come on, come on - do this right and everything will turn out well". Had the same feeling when I watched "Valkyries", even though I knew the outcome I was hoping they would succeed. Same with the books. :'(
Gaunt's Ghosts ... well ... they started weak in my humble opinion became very good and now that all the cool guys are dead and the =(§?="/$ type guys still hang around I am starting to loose interest, seems too forced for me. If Abnett wanted to kill them all off ... why didn't he give Gaunt a last heroic but fatal stand and be done with it?
Ah yes .. I forgot .. the cash thing. Guess I am just a simple man with simple needs ... lol

lol, i understand the dinos, but... the guns? what are you planning to do with that? a 2m stompa? XD
This is 'toys' received, right ;)
Shall play with my girls (already did in our garage this afternoon), but am also trying to get some NERF action going at my wargames/rpg/larp-club; we have a large outdoor area where we can set up 'capture the flag' and/or 'conquer the base' games.
I tell you, those drum-fed pumpguns are CRAZY lol
-
lol, i want them too! :) :) :)
even if they don't look really related with nerf's stuff :-D

Dart-Tags. Only 3 models of gun ATM the smallest series designed to shoot velcro-darts that tags on to chestpiece and/or Dart-Tag jerseys - the N-Strike series (can't shoot darts with velcro, only the Whistle darts, if I understand correctly) is much larger. And now they are doing swords and axes, too lol I feel som Mutant Chronicles LARP coming up ::)
Edited for contents after checking Hasbro's NERF-website.

A JCB from Winners/TKMax to start my Post Apoc vehicles off.

Dropped off some stuff at Goodwil, then went inside to see if they had any Cars that would work with zombie/ PA gaming. Istead I found this:
dumped in two bins for 20 dollars together. I came away with two complete imaginex pirate ships, Two partial Imaginex playsets, two unidentified mountain things, a cople of unopened lego cars and some other small misc stuff. The best part tho is the 90% complete flying dutchman, only the mid-deck is missing. the all important hull and masts are there. Pirate projects were last on my list, but they just got a bump!
Papa Spanky
PS, nothing PA or zed in there. :(
-
Now that was a find! :o
-
I just git that same dinosaur for my son at Hobby Lobby the other day. Hmm, 28mm survivors, zombies, and dinosaurs... somewhere in there is a wild game scenario.

only half a house to go to get the collection completed... lol

Too rich for my budget, but they chould do another mini figure collection to go with the existing Sanctuary, Poseidon and Hades figures. I'd love to see the Asgard characters and some of the lower order saints from the buildup to the Sanctuary arc and the Bronze Saints' masters.

Not to mention a re-release of the elusive bottlecap Shaina, only gall missing
Pssst, top secret insider tip, watch the LPL this year :D

Wow, that looks pretty good!

The wider ship in the upper pic is the one in the game. I plan to convert it into a treasure galleon. I think it retails for about $10.

Having just become a grand dad for the first time I now have an excuse to plunder toy shops for all this good stuff. Lego here I come! And Nerf and Scalextric and Action Man and.....that crackling sound in the background is my credit card melting?... ;)

Nokia Lumia 820 Windows phone. While this might not be considered a toy, I'm sure as hell toying around with it :D
-
Wasn't sure what category to put this into on the forum but I figure this is pretty safe. Came across a bin full of "finger tentacles" at my local Diddam's Party Supply store. It's approximately 14cm tall.

Given the variety of gaming interests on LAF I figured someone will find some use for them in a game or two.
-
that thing is amazing! and it is even waterlined
now You need some 50ies planes - Your ImagiNation has become a world power with an aircraft carrier
-
The lord alone knows what I will do with it :o but I could not leave it unbought.
I have some vague ideas where it is the centre of a game...but ideas from LAF friends welcome.

I started to make mine into a Ork landship, but since my move from 40k a few years ago its been sitting. I'm thinking of using whats done to make a sci-fi-ish ship for futuristic/PA type pirate games.
-
so, I just bought a Land Rover defender die cast from Aldi Süd Germany for 2,60 €
rather on the largish side, so unsuitable for historical 28mm, more for the 40K and similar fraction
but a real bargain, screwed and rubber tyres, opening doors
-
Well, I wasn't going to do anything this year except consolidate what I had..... 8)
So, just got a load of Dux Brit figures off Dewbakuk and bought loads of WWI Turks off Gripping Beast.
That good intention that didn't last long.... :'(
Now I HAVE to buy GB's British. Only four new armies this year, and its only February.

I wanted Batman, mostly because of the Lego Movie. Also want to get Benny's Spaceship

Dunno if it counts, but: an 'A4 printable magnetic ink jet sheet'. Gonna see if I can carry out a daft idea to magnetise minis and switch them between skirmish bases and unit bases. It's got a bit of a weak bond through the plastic packaging, but I wonder if it's strong enough to hold plastic minis, if it's stronger doubled over, and if I can boost it with a couple of rare earth magnets.

I put all my non-slotta minis on round steel washers, and I glue pieces of fence iron thread (2.06 mm) into the underside of slottas (a piece of breakfast cereal package needs to be glued in plade first, otherwise the iron is not touching the surface below the mini). That way they adhere to magnetic sheets (which I buy in A4-size) that I put in storage boxes - BUT could also be used for making unit bases, should I wish to.

@F.A.C.T.S. I bought the Deck building game Legendary : Encounters. (A friend has The Marvel Heroes and Villains editions, and I really love the system)
Dunno if it fits in this section, but I certaintly intend to play it as soon as the opportunity arises ;D

Acrylic gouache (Vallejo and Turner) and Vallejo liquid metals arrived this morning, Christmas Eve. I only ordered them from Jacksons Art a couple of days ago and expected them closer to the new year, but they zipped right through the postal rush! I don't even have the test minis cleaned and primed yet.
(I also ordered six colours in all with no Royal Mail probs. I wonder if it's because two were tube paints rather than liquid in bottles?)

The second set of Vaultboy bobbleheads, directly from Bethesda, with a discount for buying the complete set 8) and they were way cheaper than what they go for on Ebay.
