True North Miniatures cast sculpts of Nestor Makhno and a partisan standard bearer in 25/28mm metal. If anyone is interested, you have to write directly to Don and Kathy (info@truenorthminis.com) to see if you can order them. I don't know how much they'll charge for them (and, unless they make millions, I don't get a commission). It's mostly for fun. Enjoy!

Pics are located on the Russian Civil War Yahoo group in the photos file. If someone can help me here, I can send photos that can be listed here as well.

Here they are; at least that's what I found there. Not my cup of tea ... :-I

Ho-hum... well, the Makhno figure displays a certain likeness, but the sculpting could indeed be a bit crisper for my taste.

Crazy eyes.

As I said, a certain Makhno likeness, there is indeed.

Well, seeing as there are now two Nestors on the market (at least the one from Brigade - not sure if this one still exists, since True North is now part of Old Glory US), I think I can safely put to bed my plans to do a Mahkno in my own range, at least in the near future.

Sounds interesting. By years end I shall pick my favorite sculpt of the 50 or so Makhnos that crop up by then. ;)

well I do not know about Your policies, but I think it can be done better, and also an older version with moustache and more dynamic pose, or riding the legendary Tachanka

Perhaps the pictures or painting do not do it justice.

I'll grant you that I just cannot get the picture thing down well despite all my best efforts. In the flesh, Nestor looks pretty good.
I didn't realize there was another, professionally done figure. I'm only an amatuer and Makhno represented only my second attempt at sculpting. I liked the look and, at the time, he was the only one available - I wasn't trying to make any money from it - it was just the cool factor. Crisply done or not, I've got one on my table! :D

The pic of the Brigade Games Nestor and Fyodr look really good. Funny how their Makhno strikes a similar pose to mine! Their Nestor is much better armed than mine and professionally sculpted, too. Guess I'll have to copy what they did with Fyodr when I do my own. No sense to buby the set and own two Makhnos, right?
Now if someone sculpts a Mussolini at Gran Sasso, I'll really be upset!

nothing to be ashame about Your Makhno
especially as one of Your first sculpts
the figures we are used to are made by professionals for sale, to earn money
and that's the comparison level
If I made a Makhno, he would look like a Golem

No problems. Scuplting something using a dolly was interesting. I learned a bunch of stuff like how really tough it is! Buttons - I took what I thought was a small amounf to put on the jacket and it ended up looking like he was wearing clown buttons or a campaign button! I noticed that I forgot to add a collar to the standard bearers jacket, too!
Nah, not in it for the money. I've got my wife working hard to keep my lead addiction satiated!
