I've got some Dark Imperium Death Guard and I'm basing them using this guide from Warhammer TV (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcPIG0TUeTo) (skulls switched around for space marine / electronics bits).
The question I have to you guys is: Do you prefer to build the base separately or after painting the miniature? What do you find is better and are there any big differences between them?

I tend to put any basing that requires paint on first unless I'm doing something that would mount above it easily.
With dirt and the like, having your mini in place fits them into the scene of the base where it looks like they're standing there with the weight pressing in and around the feet, but if you're putting them on a rock or something solid, well, you can paint them separately without adding the minor disconnect there.

I put the glue on the base (super glue), push the models feet on and then base. so its all done before spraying to keep the sand on
