Really want to paint some but the prices are ridiculous on eBay. I've done some searching, but haven't found anything that is close. Are there any good looking alternatives out there?

I suspect that the most economical solution would be to assemble crossbowmen out of Perry miniatures' plastic European mercenaries, and then use these heads

Perry is the way to go.
Otherwise, Foundry have some too in their Castingroom range:

Forget those castingroom figures, The Assault Group have these lovely Italians in their Renaissance range (they come with metal crossbows):

You can probably add crossbows to some of their other figures I that range as well.

Good find white knight! Those might be the ticket! Thanks.
I thought about the Perry and Foundry miniatures and looked at them multiple times. Thanks for the suggestions.

The Assault Group figures are nice, also check out Mark Copplestone's old Grenadier fantasy range sold by Mirliton, still very good figures.
