Post by: Sunjester on 03 September 2017, 10:51:34 AM: Interestingly we are going to be playing Almanza in 10mm using Black Powder and the Tring Club's October games day. To make it a more balanced game for both sides I'm making it a "what-if" scenario and adding in the Catalan army under the Earl of Peterborough.

I'm using the WFGamers fantastic resource as the basis of my scenario, why not when someone has done such a good job of the hard work?

Unlike your fantastic project, I am not creating the armies from scratch but pooling the figures from 4 club members so we will be using a few stand-ins. No one has Portuguese so Bavarians will be substituted for them and the ratios of British:Dutch and French:Spanish will be a bit off. Probably the most obscure units are the Catalan forces, but I already have those in my collection!

I'm looking forward to seeing this project continue to grow.

That's great that you are able to cobble together the troops without having a go at it from scratch. No one else in my group has figures for this period so it's up to me. :)

I too am using the WFGamers resource along with a few others to put all of this together.

It has been a couple years since we are deep into 19th century wars at the moment. No, it's not like having real WSS figures but at least they are in tricorn hats. And now to duck into the dug-out before the brick-bats fly...

Post by: Sunjester on 03 September 2017, 05:13:37 PM: We do use a modified version of Black Powder as I found the rules as written are far too free flowing for this period. The main changes are to put firing after initiative and before issuing commands and to restrict infantry movement to straight ahead with a maximum 45 degree wheel. I feel that better reflects the period and everyone who tried it (so far) has had an enjoyable game.

I'm taking the WFGamers Polemos army lists as my starting point, so we will be fielding 61 infantry units (30 French/Spanish and 31 Allied) and a corresponding amount of cavalry. A couple of us have armies based up for Black Powder and two other club members have armies they put together years ago for Polemos. By a useful coincidence my stuff is based on 20x20 mm bases (6 stands to a unit) and the Polemos stuff is based on 60x40 mm bases, so if I put my units in 2 ranks everything will be using the same footprint.

I will definitely be putting up some pictures of the game!

vtsaogames - it's not as bad as using Napoleonic figures, as you say they were at least in tricorns. I have a few 7YW and GNW figures mixed in with my 10mm WSS to give a bit of variety in poses, especially with officers.

Sunjester-Black Powder is not a favorite of mine. To beer and pretzel for me but some in the group like it so we may end up trying it out for this. I'll bring your suggestions for tweaks if we do.
