A Webley would be good.

As a scientist, he should have something advanced or experimental. Either the Mauser with shoulderstock and Drum Magazine or a Gatling-SMG.

Mauser with stock. Drum magazine would also be okay, but it's gotta be a Mauser.

I'd like to see something along the lines of a Machette. but with a holstered pistol too. Maybe just being drawn?

Is he an Adventurer or a Mercenary going to war ?

A scientist. Not that sane, perhaps! A mercenary would always prefer something reliable and avoid any experiments.

Or the Webley-Fosbery automatic revolver, supposed to be quite accurate as well.

Like the idea of a long barelled Luger. Is a Mauser too obvious a choice? something different definately. :)

The Mauser is a pulp icon, so it gets my vote.

The Mauser with a drum magazine has to be the way to go.

What about something different like a sawn off shotgun, cut down to the pistol grip carried in a belt holster. or a pump action shotgun?

well, initially i voted for no weapon as i think a suitable pose could be more menacing without a weapon - i have a mental image from a photograph of Raputin just sitting there fingering a crucifix, staring at the camera  :freak:

but as i see that seems contrary to the current i would pitch this one request/suggestion/remark: IF the pose includes a weapon, please have it be a purpose sculpted weapon - ie sculpted in his hand, not an empty paw to have "your choice of weapons added".  i hate that!  the hand and fingures tend to look like moderate sausages when the weapon is globbed in.  the molded as one sculpts look more natural, in my humble oppinion

pardon my arrogance for speaking up   just wanted to add my 2 kopecs!
