Title: 6mm Arnhem
Post by: steders on July 19, 2017, 03:28:02 PM
I wanted to try the rapid fire grand manner campaign using the entirety of 1st Airbourne. We played it at Derby one year in 15mm but didn't have enough players to reach a conclusion. Its got so many troops it would need a couple of days to play so it needs to be left setup. That's why I went with 6mm.

I actually have multiple ww2 6mm armies GHQ and Heroics and Ros
The difference in quality is massive
This is the Arnhem stuff, all H&R, it does the job. Easiest stuff I've ever painted. The units are marked with the name of the commander to give them a bit more personality.
Some of 1st Airbourne

Looks a lovely table... I just got some H&R, though I appreciate the quality of GHQ I figured at this scale it wouldn't be noticable enough to make me feel I've made a mistake, however just knowing that a much better quality product is available is already playing on my mind.

A superb looking table & great minis, 6 mm gives an enviable sweep of events feel impossible in larger scales :-*

Impressive looking table - I'm struggling a bit to work out some of the ground scale compression.

Is the block of town nearer the camera Oosterbeek? I suppose I would expect to see the pinch point caused by the Rhine swinging north, towards the railway line. And then more of a built up area North of the road bridge. I do like the road bridge with the large bank leading up to it. Very evocative.

I've tried planning out a game based on the whole of the Arnhem / Oosterbeek area and there is a lot of stuff to fit in. And then to try and deal with all the action taking place in a narrow strip of BUA along the north bank of the Rhine.

I'm not tying to by picky - but just wonder if all the open ground towards the north will encourage a hook round that way - rather than the slog through the woods and the town.

But looking forward to seeing how the game progresses.
