Title: Tripod kit from Vanguard Miniatures
Post by: Troublemaker Games on 21 July 2017, 10:43:37 AM
Vanguard Miniatures have just re-released a steampunk Tripod model I used to sell: http://vanguardminiatures.co.uk/shop/tripod-set-x-2/

The legs are posable in different angles, and the Tripods come with 3 different weapon options: Heat Ray, Black Smoke Discharger, and Manipulator Arms.

The model is fairly scale-agnostic, so could be used for anything between 3mm and 15mm games I reckon, or maybe it could even represent a small tripod in 28mm scale.

Scale comparison with a 28mm scale fig:

Awesome! Will you now also start to make 15mm VSF goodies?

That depends on if this Tripod kits sells - I have a lot of 10mm scale VSF model kit moulds laying idle, and I still have the master CAD files so could transfer many of them to 15mm (I'd up-detail them), if it looks like the market will support some more 15mm VSF endeavors.

Is 15mm the most popular VSF scale at the moment? I never found my 10mm figs sold very well.

I would suggest 28mm is probably more popular for VSF gaming, there are certainly more suitable figures available.

Nice tripod, the leg design gives it a very different look.

Probably the most popular is still 28mm, yet as wih SF this means that there is still a lot of potential in 15s as no one makes it but it's better, i.e. cheaper, for all the big vehicles.

What about smaller scale stuff for popularity, Brigade Minature's Land Ironclads and Dystopian Wars? How do they compare in popularity to 28mm?

Very much so, both for that and the posts I see on most fora; I WILL say 15mm VSF has a devoted following, and my impression is on the up swing.

Smaller scales, even less, though we're fickle folk...

Apologies to those who'll jump on the statement, but my impression is that 10mm tends to be a bit niche, except for a few periods, so if you have something really unique AND big appeal, you'll be able to BE the supplier.

Nice tripod, the leg design gives it a very different look.

First thing it brought to mind was the Wild Wild West spider, though this is a rather different direction.

Ol' bean, just in case you missed it, you get parts to make any of them, and two walkers in one order. Just, not sure if you've enough parts to do two of the same...

Yes, you get two Tripod "cores" in each set, as well as 2x of each of the 3 weapon choices.

So yes, you can make two with Heat Rays from your measly £8.  :)

I would talk to Leon at Pendraken over the 10mm range as that's his raison d'etre  lol

For me, I've seen lots more 28mm despite collecting 15mm gigs myself - I think it's the sets for IHMN that got people around here interested as you can see / paint the wonderful brass weaponry.  15s and down speak to people for mass battles rather than skirmish.

I have a small collection of Land Ironclads but never seen a game at a show and to be honest I just sold my Aeronef rules and all bar one ship due to lack of interest.  Looks like LI is going to be a solo game ongoing.

You know, if you just put a small bead or something instead of the weapon mount, you could easily use it as some sort of "encounter suited alien" species in 28mm
