Title: Removing the blue part of greenstuff...
Post by: katie on 24 July 2017, 04:53:13 PM
I've managed to get lumps of sticky blue gunk stuck all over the handle of a useful sculpting tool... anyone any idea how to get it off? Is there a good solvent for it?

Also, as a side note, don't store your ribbons of yellowblue in the same place as your tools. Important safety tip...

Acetone should do the trick. If you can't get hold of any then nail polish remover will do as well  :)

cheers

Assuming the tool is metal, soak a clean rag in some acetone and give it some elbow grease. That should remove most of it I think. :)

I normally scrape the worst off first  :)

Thanks. I've been wondering about this myself.

I gave this a go; and it was partially successful; it's definitely got some of it off. I think the problem is that the nail varnish remover I have is a fancy-pants one full of moisturiser and stuff and possibly a wee bit short on actual solvents...

I'm going to go buy a bottle of the cheapest, narstiest varnish remover I can find...

Cheers all!!!

Moisturiser? Well, you learn something new every day  :)

It's indeed a bit of a problem. I am quite fond of using nail polish remover for stripping figures, but many brands include oils to restore skin balance or something, and these tend to leave a nasty residue on figures. The oils-free acetone stuff works best.

I'm assuming it only works on metal figures?

I suspect so. For plastic, alcohol seems to be the better choice - I don't have any plastics that need stripping, but I've heard the hand disinfectant brand "Sterilium" works just fine for hard polystyrene, ABS and polyurethane resin.

I've tried acetone with plastic figures, but it didn't work too well, although the figures themselves were unaffected. For cleaning plastics, I use brake fluid. It cleans the paint and doesn't affect the figures.
