Title: Jim's VSF thread - A new beginning - Temple mesa complete
Post by: OSHIROmodels on 27 July 2017, 11:27:12 PM
Welcome to my new VSF thread  :)

Herewithin will be the continuing chronicles of my VSF journeys on Mars and other exotic locals as well as Red Planet Miniatures updates as and when.

The previous 'Japanese on Mars' thread is linked below in case anyone fancies reading over 100 pages of waffle without any pictures  ::)

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=21604.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=21604.0)

To start is off is a large steam powered walker wip for the Great Martian Trading Company (more on which later). There's still a few details to go on but it's just about there.

I will at some point soon have a selection of photos from the original thread posted here as a kind of recap as I can't face re-linking the 400 odd photos in it.

cheers

James

Lovely work on the legs Jim :-* :-* :-*
May just the angle of the photo but it looks front heavy?
Any other pictures of a different angle?
you must be keeping HLBS open with the amount of guns on these contraptions.
Looking forward to seeing it painted, is it going to be Japanese?

Are they HLBS weapons?

Yes, I bought a load the other year to arm my Mikasa neff with but they keep getting used up for different projects  lol

It looks front heavy but is actually back heavy but will be stable enough on the table top. I'll take some other pictures over the weekend as a bit more is done. It'll be for Nicks GMTC, a renegade faction on Mars purely out for exploitation and profit  ;D

cheers

It'll be to build affordable housing for the natives, either that or it could be  something nefarious ,either way I'm sure Le Monde will keep us abreast of any developments  :)

Nice work James. It will make a nice target.

I'm wondering if the upper hull would be a good start for a nef design :)

Don't worry, I wouldn't do that to you. We're not building a factory. There's more money in housing developments over commercial.
So we're going with high density social housing. Your view of the beach won't be obscured as long as you stand on tiptoe in the attic room. ;) :D

Phew! NOW I feel relieved! :D  I am planning to have the house ready for the 1889 surfing season!

I've also heard the natives are really, really friendly...  8)

Thanks all  :)

Colin, shhh, we're trying to keep it a secret  :D

The natives are a bunch of unruly ruffians but we wouldn't have it any other way  :D

Right then, all the details are done apart from the wheel and removable roof but because of shit weather and not having anywhere to spray at the moment it's going to stay like this for a while.

Great looking walker James  :-* can't wait to see your finish on it  :)
I've been looking at the legs of the machine and can't seem to work out how they'll work  ???,which way is the walker meant to be facing as the "feet" of the legs seem to point out in both directions .
This is not a criticism ,it's a fantastic looking build  :) it's just me being dim  and new to this VSF malarkey lol
Cheers

It works with the suspension of disbelief and a bit of 'handwavium'  lol

If you want a proper examination then there are little ratchet cam things hidden from view that enable the legs to 'swing' forward when in motion. It's a slow process but the most effective for a vehicle of this size  ;)

You know, with some modification, you could actually build something a lot like that which could actually walk on its own. The leg configuration already looks like a strandbeest anyway...

They are resin casts but the master was done in blue foam then 'textured' with a rock.

It's finished and appeared in a game last night  :)

There were courses in Martian script, language and culture run by the Stypherdyck Foundation but due to lack of funds and interest the Foundation ceased and delclared bankruptcy in 1972.

Are the martians for sale, looked on red planet website and couldn't see them

The listing is on the right hand side of the blog but message me with what you want  :) (so weak  :D)
