Hey guys,
Local GW decided to run a Primaris marine painting comp, and i got inspired to paint up a Flesh Tearer with a few mods.
Added a bunch of Blood Angel stuff from their plastic box sets, used the FT pad from the Deathwatch sprue and trimmed off the boarder (FYI the GW mold line scraper is really good for helping to smooth this out).
For the base i used some barb wire bits and cast plaster which i then broke to make the ruins etc.
Painting looks very harsh and not as even as it could be this close up in the pics, but overall i am happy with the result.

That's nicely done! 8) The red colour you've achieved and the sword are particularly good! 8)

Yep, cool take on the figure. I'm not a fan of the base, but that's one of my ticks. :D The only other slight hesitation is that the sword doesn't scream Imperium to me, but the paintwork and figure work is excellent. Well done.

I agree the sword style is not very Imperial, but I guess you were going for a more imposing and jagged-edged blade?

the base was a test as i had seen a cool tutorial with someone making the foundation and breaking it. i poured it too thick and ran out of time before the comp due date to do it again, but i dont mind it. usually i hate bases that overhang too much or are too big, but as this is really a display model (i have a regular marine army and a deathwatch army to paint before i consider doing fleshtearers), i did not mind it.
for the sword i wanted to show them being a bit close to the edge, even the new shiny primaris boys.
if the blood angels are 2 steps from going to Khorne, then the fleshtearers are about a half step. the sword is actually from the plastic Blood letters (which i bought to make a blood bowl team with), and i thought it was just the right side of heretical to look cool and its pretty evil looking :)
am nearly finished my next marine, so will put up some pics when he is done.

I like it.
Planning on embelishing my primaris quite a bit as well.
I like the models, but they're a bit to clean and straith to the point.
I'm planning on adding loads of decorations and making them more grimdark, just ike this.

Hi everyone,
another Space Marine painted up. Tried a couple of new techniques (or techniques i have not tried for a decade or so).
This guy is Death Watch Watch Master, from the Lamenters chapter.
Some conversions:
1. changed the head to a blood angle head
2. Right Shoulder pad – years ago my ex wife and i sculpted a Lamenters should pad. i ran a cast of it and then cut out the icon to put it on the pad with the high rim, after scraping off the terminator honours that were on there.
3. i broke the pipe holding the skull on, part way through painting so had to glue it to his backpack and sculpted a solid pipe to hold the two bits of ribbed pipe together.
the base is a press mold from the Wargames Bakery Basius range, Imperial i think.
I am happy with the painting, i tried using Dave Taylors recipe for Black but a lot less layers, and it came out quite nice.
the purple blade looks better in person, the images dont show the transitions very well, but it could definitely be smoother, it seemed much smoother when i was painting it.
the yellow on the cloak came out well, and i like the contrast to the black.
Not sure if i am going to paint any more Deathwatch, i have a bunch, but the army list makes no sense. So its just a cool model for now.

Great stuff! The skin tone and the loin cloth are especially good! :-* I'm not sure the blade works though. Personally, I would've liked to see it just edge-highlighted.

thanks!, the skin and loin cloth are the bits i think worked the best, and i liked the armour. i liked the idea of a weird crystal type sword so i like it, and its much better in person, but it would have been easier to just edge it :)

sort of, glass or crystal was the ideal, i will keep practicing to get much better at it.
