I'm surprised no-one has posted this yet but North Star have put pictures of the plastic sprues for Ghost Archipelago up on their Facebook page.
I like the look of them, especially what they've done with the separate left hands and they two handed weapons.

SO are these plastic pirates?!?!? Sorry not into Frostgrave, but interested in these.
-
These look absolutely great - look like just really nice models to paint.

Yes, they are pirate/sailor types. But not in the traditional Pirates of the Caribbean tricorne wearing variety; more of a Fantasy/Medieval type. Note there ar no gunpowder type weapons.
-
As a follow up, you'd need some other plastic sprees (or metal) for black powder weapons, like the old WHFB Militia/Mordheim types.
-
I wish there were some helmeted heads, but otherwise a nice group of swashbucklers. I'm not sure if I'll be delving into Ghost Archipelago, but I might pick some up.
-
Ohhhh.
I have a use for you.
:)

None too shabby 8)

Great looking figures for Sinbad's adventures or Corsairs of Umbar :)
-
very nice indeed . The baggy trousers shout Dotraki at me
-
I really like that this is more Sindbad than Blackbeard. Something we have been missing, guys! I can already see stop-motion monsters on the way!
-
Oh GOD yes! :o
Looking great. The shield are probably the pick of the lot for me, tons of uses for those. And the accesories are top notch too, love the bottle.
I must admit some disappointment in a pirate sprue without flintlock guns. I remember reading the author is opposed to guns in the world of Frostgrave, which is fair enough, it would just fit soooo well with these guys.
Oh well. Sindbad adventures à la Ray Harryhausen here I come!
-
Has a Sinbad look to the sailors... nice. I will have to get a set.

There's definitely a lack of Medieval/Renaissance(ish) pirates compared to the Pirates of the Caribbean sort.

On a positive note, it is nice to see a manufacturer packing their sprue with options. Though, I'll personally give them a pass, as the sculpts feel really dated to me. They look is as if there had been no progress in casting technology since the earliest plastic GW kits.

Look at the character on those faces, nothing lacklustre about those. Bodies feel a bit bland, but that's a result of having loose-fitting simple clothing - a treat to paint up as far as I'm concerned. No pointless small details to pick out, just block the colours in and plenty of space for fancy patterns if desired.

lol That's harsh!
As far as the technical quality of the sculpts, I would probably put them on par with GW's Mordheim set. While the Mordheim set is old, it's still a good kit as far as I'm concerned. They certainly aren't on par with GW's current models, but GW went off the rails with their current aesthetic, not to mention pricing.
That said, my only problem with these models is the aesthetic. I like the "Sinbad" heads, but I would have liked to see more variety, like a conquistador helmet, etc. This one is my least favorite of the kits, but I'm not all that into the pirate theme to begin with. I'd rate the kits as follows:
Soldiers > Cultists > Barbarians > Gnolls > Pirates
-
I'd like to see a few morions thrown in too. I could have added them to my Portuguese forces as neredo-wells.
-
If they had morions, I probably would buy five boxes. lol

I would have to mix that up a little bit. I would rate the kits as Barbarians > Soldiers > Gnolls > Cultists > Pirates. I found the Barbarians to be superior is sculpt and options. I put Cultists above Pirates due to the details of the sculpts. My major problem with the Cultists though was the inclusion of the undead parts. It made the sprue more limiting when it came to using it for a living warband.

Oh I can't wait to get these!! I love it when the new Frostgrave plastic sets get released. There always so useful for well... everything! I'm really liking the heads for these there just so full of character and that bottle! The bits on these are always so cool and there all interchangeable so cultist piartes are going to have to happen! Great job 8)
-
I was thinking about mixing them with cultists too, I aim to make some arab like warband.
In my opinion lack of helmets is not a coincidence, there are penalties for armour while swimming in GA, so it makes sense that crewmen won't be armoured. Possibly there will be more alternative crew sets, like it was with soldiers with frostgrave (cultists, gnolls and barbarians are just different style soldiers), so maybe pirates or conquisatoders will be released
-
If you want a good source of Morion-wearing heads, Maxmini make a set of resin heads that should go well on these. I might even do that myself...
-
Great potential in that box, even though I'm personally not into pirates or swashbuckling games/miniatures.

Once they are painted up these don't look bad at all. I do wish the had a more south seas look to them, however. The original Frostgrave figures were all suitably bundled up representative of the frozen climate of the setting. Given the tropical island setting of Ghost Archepelego I'd have expected the figures to include some bare arms and bare feet at least. :(

Yes, they do seem rather overdressed.

Maybe they lost one too many men to giant magical mosquito bites and decided a little bit of sweat was a fair price to pay?
-
One of the heads should have had a dagger between its teeth.
-
Some of the Blood & Plunder minis would work rather well for Ghost Archipelago. You'd have to avoid the pistols and muskets, though.

Grab these and you are sorted....

They also do them in smaller packs.
:) ;)

Thanks for that. Didn't know they did them.
