I know people have issues with Prodos but this arrived as promised...

Looks great :-* :-* :-*
Looking forward to seeing you paint it
-
That's a lovely model inside! :-* Is it a bit rough on the front elevation, behind the forward facing turret?
-
Lovely; can't wait to see what you do with it.
But there really is not a whole lot of leg room for the squadies in the back, now is there? lol
-
That does look great. I cannot wait to see it painted.
It is a bit of a shame that the model is cut down the middle of the screens. That will take som work to even out. They could have moved the cut a bit to avoid them altogether.

Yes - needs a little sanding to smooth out.

Agreed...

I got three copies of the APC from another source that size wise fill in for the Prodos product nicely. It's a shame though, that they don't offer the unicast Sergeant and squished Alien tokens. :-[
I am looking forward to your painted version, Dwartist. It will for sure turn out great, like all of your work. :-*

Details required please. (I will go to any lengths to avoid funding Prodos)
-
The Galoob action fleet ones. They are expensive nowadays though.
-
The Cinemachines ones are pretty close in scale as well, though the price on those has rocketed since they went out of stock in most places.
-
Can't wait to see it finished. I agree they could have done a little better on the hull split. They weren't doing anyone any favors. Just a couple of mm aft and it would have been so much easier to hide.

They're closer for smaller 28mm figs but I think they look too small with the Prodos figs. if the Prodos APC is too pricey there's also the Khurasan Caiman APC. It doesn't have all the right details and the hulls a little off, but it's close enough for me:

Lovely stuff :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Great start! :o That's a lovely green colour!

Nice.
Are you going to find it difficult to fix the split screen issue once painted?

Yes! Seriously considering converting a marine (or maybe a hard-ass, female consultant) to stand in front of the gap!

Looking really good so far. I knew you'll turn it into a piece of Art. :-*

...more detailing; pulse rifle rack and driver positioned.

Great work :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Waiting on seeing how you are going to deal with the joint?
-
Very nice work. Yeah that joint is in a terrible position. Surely they could have moved around those screens to make a less obvious join. Poor planning there Prodos.
-

If they'd moved it right they'd have had it on the border between screens and at the bottom corner of the hatch. Lovely painting but every time I look at that join I just shudder.
-
That join is going to be a problem to sort out. On the outside it looks like there is a massive step. I reckon that I would have glued the two halves together and dealt with that nasty gap before painting anything...
... however, the painting is very nicely done (as you would expect from DW) and I hope that the join can be sorted without destroying too much of the paint :)
-
Lovely work David...
that join is nonsense, lack of thought or knowledge: somebody has simply chopped the model into two sections with no regard for assembly or looks.
Bad expansion issue on the outer lower hull port-side join also; makes me wonder if Prodos are having these produced out of house somewhere (I.e. China) as they know better than to make crappy joints like that.
-
A bigger problem than the join is the disparity between the two halves of the hull - the rear end is slightly narrower than the front. This means if I get one hull side fitted correctly there will be a step on the other side. As the grills will be harder to correct I will have to have the step by the door and hope I can correct it without major surgery. this also gives the best fit for the screens and floor too.
Steve - I considered joining the two halves and correcting the fit before painting but it was easier to do the detail painting with the hull split.
Jed - how I wished you'd cast this!
Still extremely pleased with it though - it is the only one that is close to the original (there's a nice 1/48 resin one about with a hollow hull which would lend itself to conversion work) with interior detailing and crew.
...perhaps Prodos used this for inspiration?

...hull halves joined - still a few fit issues to resolve.

Skill? I call it magic :o Stunning work as usual!

Wow!
-
Nice work! I am interested in a run-down of the colours you've been using on the Marine gunner's BDU (uniform) ?
-
Honestly that is a work for a catalogue cover! Extremely well done, I couldn´t imagine a better result. It´s ashame though that all of that nice interior will be hidden within the hull...
-
Good grief, however did you do that? Brilliant work with those screens :o 8) 8) 8)

All Vallejo Model Color
Base colour: US Dark Green highlighted by adding Stone Grey; large patches: Black (with a little Tamiya Flat Base) with a little Lt. Mud (to make dark grey) adding more LT. Mud to highlight; German C. Beige highlighted by adding Stone Grey; small, 'wiggly' lines: Ivory. Shading was done by making a glaze with black and a little Tamiya Flat Base.
-
...and if you were wondering...the APC does not fit inside the dropship - it's too long!

Nice! Thanks. Did you paint the Lieutenant at the OPS table different compared to the driver? The green seems t have a different tone to it. But that could be because of lighting when you took the picture. You didn't by any chance paint some Marines apart from those crew members, did you? I really would like to copy your approach (if I can even come close :'( ) - it is by far the best result to paint those uniforms I have come across.

Thank you! Yes, the LT is painted in a different green. I felt the driver was a bit to light in shade so I used a darker green for the commander - unfortunately it's a little too close to the interior colour and not the green I wanted. I have a few marines and will get around to painting them (I also received the limited edition 'Apone' mini with the APC so may paint that first).
-
Awesome, can't wait to see those. Thanks for the reference pictures, good material. 8)

Wow! Your painting is stunning! :-* I feel as though if I looked close enough the screens would tell me the vitals of Hicks and Hudson! :o

So that's two basic school boy errors! The major join in the APC AND not being able to fit in the dropship that's designed to hold it! :?

You see kids, sometimes when a daddy dropship and a mommy APC loves each other really much.....
Im sorry, Ill let myself out..
-
Well I didn't see that before Dr Zombie but now it is all I see.
-

Nooo! My eyes! :o
It's a bit much when you can't fit the APC in the dropship. I know it's to save a bit on the dropship cost but surely part of the attraction of buying the two is to drop the ramp and have the APC roar out (Vroom noises optional).
-
I think the interior of the APC might be finished. I've added a wristwatch/com/monitor to the gunner's wrist as the join to the controls was not as good as I'd like it to be; applied a few scrapes and scratches to the paintwork; dirtied the floor a little and added the three containers from the kit opposite the driver and gunner. I might add a few more items to the space next to the containers and something on one or two of the seats.

No decals with the kit - I found a guy who makes decals for both the APC and the dropship in several scales. http://www.jbot.ca/space/aliens1.shtml and thought I'd give them a try.
-
Awesome, good find. They even got alternatives for my 1/72 Halcyon Dropship.
Cannot wait to see your APC finished.

First thing I am thinking is "wonder if he has Mad Max" decals. Answer is, he sure does. GOAL!

Insanely good, I wish I could do that too!!! :o

Outstanding work. Turned out really fantastic. :-*
