Title: Lace Wars Painting Project
Post by: anton ryzbak on 27 August 2017, 06:35:27 PM
I have had piles of the old Wargames Factory stuff laying around for years, recently I have gotten myself in gear and started painting them. Nine Battalions of Foot and two of Horse plus some guns have been completed.

I have also started a 1/48th scale model of the Castillo de San Marcos in Florida

Very impressive work. I've bookmarked your blog, to thoroughly pore through it later. That Castillo is going to be a monster. I have a printed paper model of that fort (unbuilt) in about 15mm scale that is far too big for my table. You *must* be reducing the size of the original a bit for playability's sake, hainna?

No, the model is true 1/48th scale, I have a friend that happens to have a ballroom in his house. A proper arrangement  of tables will allow the besieged player to stand inside the Castillo while the others are ranged around the outer perimeter. It will also be very impressive at conventions. It helps that the Castillo de San Marcos was one of the smallest of Spain's New World forts.

Some say that I am quite mad, I am in no position to argue.......but I'm having fun!

Please let me know when you take your Castillo to a convention. I may have to make a road trip to see it live.

I got some work work done on the Castillo project, this is turning out to be  a LOT more work than I first thought.

Having finished the walls to a satisfactory condition I have begun adding the windows and doors to the interior of my starfort

I set up the model of the Castillo on a couple of banquets tables in my basement.
To say the least it is quite large  (https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bk5axsH5X1c/WdrGxnK6xfI/AAAAAAAANkc/JFkqb-RRe5YiBdkV0ldfL_d6V5hrTWwSQCLcBGAs/s640/20171008_200002.jpg)

You don't say! It must be 4-5' square.

Certainly looks impressive, even just in plain white.

five and a half feet on a side, my idea is to arrange the tables pinwheel-fashion and have the besieged player stand inside the fort

Ace!

Can't wait to see how this comes out.

Better make sure the besieged player isn't too rotund, or has too many drinks!!

standing inside the walls there is a square three feet across, too many drinks would simulate the tension that the besieged force feels without the risk of death or dismemberment

Nah, go on - throw in the death and dismemberment as well.  Might attract a bigger crowd.
