I was once trapped in one of those Kombis, when the door jammed and the handle broke. There were IIRC about 7 passengers and it was about 36 C inside it. Hilarious watching a rather amply fed woman trying to squeeze out the window in her bid to be free. Ah the simple pleasures of semi public transport in rural Brazil.

Nice work so far by the way. Make sure, there are plenty of dints and dings in the bodywork and a fair smattering of rust.

I'm guessing now isn't a good time, to tell you that Cheiftain have a 1/55th scale VW Campervan in their Arab-Israeli range?

 ;)

Its open roof, but would be dead-easy to convert, if you wanted a hardtop - personally speaking i like the open roof, as it makes for a good gun position.

Here is one i converted for the Frothers game at Salute a year back (excuse the photos, they are a bit grotty, but i haven't got more recent ones to hand).

Out of interest, where did you get the wheels from - are they carved out of wood, or from a kit?

Boy all that work. I don't know where your are but around here I find VW vans in the cheap toys range usually found at drug stores & supermarkets. About $3.99 to $5.99 US each. Mostly about 1/56th scale, look good with my figures. I also have a mini-wini, small Winibago camper, and an ice cream wagon.

All I can say is wow, Intruder. Notwithstanding the availability of other models, I greatly admire your guts in setting out to handcraft your own microbus. Heck, I couldn't even draw a proper plan if you gave me until the end of time. I usually just line up the gear and kind of have a bash, I'm afraid. That's why I mostly work in nice cheap media like paper...

Akula, once again you make me jealous with your brilliant survivor van. Sort of "Scooby Doo, Where Are You?" meets "Rat Patrol" on the set of "The A Team." Top job!

Very nice job looking forward to seeing it done, but I would not want to be in a VW van with a Hoard of Zombies knocking on the door :o

Zombies look at VW vans like Tootsie pops....  Hard and crunchy on the outside soft and chewy on the inside :D
