Title: Agis Harlequins
Post by: Agis on 09 September 2017, 10:41:10 AM
In 2015 GW re-launched their Harlequins range. For the first time a multipart plastic set! I followed their announcements closely and I have to admit, I am deeply tempted to get some. Tempted enough to dust off some of my old RT era minis ... My old Harlequins...

I finally started to paint some of the new plastic Harlequin range. As said above I was impressed just seeing the kits, but to build one, to see the huge range of customisation possibilities - I am in awe!
1st model - a Starweaver! But since I still have some of the ancient metal Harlequins (shown above), I wanted a Starweaver that would fit my old mini in style and colour. In addition I wanted to use my Anarchy stencil Diamond pattern to mask the hull and use my airbrush.

And a pic together with my old Harlequins.

I must admit I always found these an odd troop option as they really did not fit anywhere but you have done the designers proud with those paint jobs!

As for the cross hatching on the flyer thingy - spot on airbrush work backed up with great blending over the fin things at the back.

Some more old Death Jester!

In 1988 the Harlequins were released as a Regiments of Renown box set, which was referred to in the White Dwarf 105 September 1988 advert. This boxed set had really great cover art, which really sold it. The range was later expanded with blisterpacks, which can be seen advertised in White Dwarf 107 November 1988.

And something new - the Solitaire!

I have to admit, I need some time to get used to it.
I an way I am very old fashioned, I do not like too extravagant poses or “special effects” like smoke or something like this, way too busy for me.

But after assembling the Solitaire and the very 1st brushes I liked the mini, it certainly has a very dynamic beauty.
I took some extra care on the freehand Solitaire rune.

as always more pics on my site: http://www.adpublishing.de/html/harlequins.html

Lovvely new models, and very well painted!

I've never been a 40K addict, but this looks so great, I might take a second look at it.
According to other peoples coments, the newest edition of rules also seems to be very good.

Tempted...

IMO the current edition is very accessible. It has some clunky moments, but all in all a great game!

Great painting. All gam s have clunky moments, I'm afraid. But it seems that 40k became a better game with the 8th. Still hope for ViDe:scifiraid ;)

Excellent work on the Solitaire and all the Harlequins. I completely agree with the removal of the diamond effect bits from the corner of the Solitaire's coat. It is interesting how some of the older figures GW did in the late 80's early 90's still work while others seem very dated.

IMO almost every Jes Goodwin mini is still valid!
