Title: A young Lady and Gentleman's War
Post by: AlyMorrison on 19 September 2017, 12:32:35 AM
Greetings...
On Saturday my daughter came over for her very first 'proper' game of toy soldiers...

We chose to play in an H.G.Wells style using Howard Whitehouse's A Gentleman's War rules.
The story of my inevitable defeat is now up on my blog

All the best. Aly

PS. I'm keeping an eye on your new WSS project too... I also have something on the go in that period!

An aroma of sweetness and romanticism and a strong bond between father and daughter! One of the best AARs I've ever read! Perfect! Congratulations to both!

Barriers that need breaking down, no. 23: the gender division in tactical games. I've met several women who've enjoyed beating an enemy army silly, so it can be done. Good work on getting your little girl into the arena!

Aly, I've said it before and I will say it again, love these! I really need to get off my arse and buy some more of these, I wish the ss website ordering was a little better rather than writing down what I need etc

A very tidy setup. Seems like an exciting game. I did not quite follow: how colse are the Whitehouse rules to those laid down by HG Wells??

Hi Hammers...
As you no doubt know H.G.Wells mostly placed his soldiers on the floor or in the garden and shot toy cannons at them...so in truth Howard's rule's are not at all like H.G.s.

I would say that they are inspired by the courteous and playful style of Little Wars.

I would recommend joining the Yahoo Group and having a look...

Was it Sun Tze who said 'Never trust bloody sheep!'?

I think Clausewitz had an entire chapter on the subject...

Greetings...

Last Wednesday I had a second game of A Gentleman's War using the same scenario I used when I was so well beaten by my daughter...
This time with some friends from work.... my dice throwing has not improved...

A delightful looking game, and the soldiers bring back fond memories of my old Britains collection. I do hope no sheep were harmed in the making of this game!!!! :-)
