I was bored and wanted to try something new so I tried a quick experiment with a Curteys Samurai and some valleyo game inks...
what you think?

You did a very good job on this Bushi! Quite well done.I'd love to hear about your technique.
Don't care much for Curtey's (I know, I know, guys, but I just don't care for the style; on the other hand, I love the cartoonish Samurai from Dixon, so go figure), but your paintjob makes him look decent!:)

Ok the tecnique...
I am stucked in a college accomodation without my score of valleyo model colors and the only ready available colors here in london (when you bank mess with your CC) are the valleyo game colors... so I decided to try a new approach with their game inks and model color... so I tried it with a curteys samurai I have bought at salute (lovely miniature after all... ;D ).
Instead of using my basic approacho of darker color, drybrush and shading I have tried to come up with a decen lighter color, ink it and then do some highlighting. It has taken me a bit of experimentation (my base color were always too dark!) but I think the end results are good, have to try different inks, but I am really pleased by the metal parts in the helm and on the greaves, also the face has been inked (opposes to my usual 3 tone approach... maybe a lighter ink the next time.
