Post by: Jeff965 on October 02, 2017, 08:40:58 PM
U.K. Gamers this may be of interest to you, moss green teddy bear fur throws (gaming mats)
Have a look it might not be your thing but I thought it worth bringing to people's attention.
It's a tenner for a 6x4foot Mat, £20 for a 7x7 foot Mat.

Useful find. Was that when you were out shopping for a new chaise longue throw? Did you get one?

Well whenever I'm being dragged out by SWMBO around all these boring shops looking for ever more piddling crap to fill our house, I am always on the lookout for things that can be used for wargaming lol
This was found when out looking for more pillows for the bedroom, as apparently if you are taking less than 15 minutes to remove all the pillows to actually get into bed then you haven't got enough pillows ;D

Sounds familiar and of course I have to put them all back exactly as they were in the morning!😳

Bugger!! I was in Dunelm on Sunday but sleep walked my walk round it trailing in my wifes wake as she looked at all sorts of stuff I had no interest in, would have walked past these goodies with no thought in my head! :'(

I spray it with car paint, but that is on terrain tiles, don’t know how it will work on “mats” though. Will try it after hols.

Just be careful these throws can be dangerous!

I was in Dunelm yesterday with the Mrs . Apparently looking at throws for your 'toys' when your supposed to be buying cushions. Isn't helping. Replying that your multi tasking.
Is most definitely life limiting!
(and very very expensive )

From what I saw these are worth the punt. The pile is a little under the thickness of your finger. There is a nylon sheen to the plush. Which I'd personally dull with acrylic paints,or a spray paint and a hair brush.
Colour wise its not far off the background green of the forum .
You could easily use it as is. Only minor snag is a 5-6cm square label stitched. Roughly the same again  in from the edge, in one corner.

No I didn't pick one up(apparently we're off back on Monday so I'll pick one up then(( if I'm feeling brave enough)
I noticed they're also doing fitted fleece bed sheets in colours that would work as base colours for tables too.

Mark.

Thanks for posting this, I picked up a 6x4 to experiment with!  Double sided too, so going to try and figure out two diferent looks.  Maybe some caulk roads and mud on one side, and the other as pure grassland.  Would love to see what others are doing with theirs!

Anyone else spot the moss roll ? Wondered if it would do for foliage / hedges or even tree cover? Comes in 1 M roll for £2.50.

I ordered one online and told the missus that it was suggested by some Wesh nutter as a good buy.
I guess that would not go down so well at your house.

Well, I guess that depends on whether you are more bothered by looks or comfort.

For those that have these throws, how would they do for 15mm? I have a mix of minis, some based on washers and others on pennies. My impression is that my minis and small terrain would fall over a lot

Good question I was wondering how to make it stable.  That is assuming I get it back from my 14 year old son who's nicked as a blanket.

Ah that's cool - I've often thought about that stuff as a cheap and easy gaming surface. The blue is particularly effective.

Just received two very large throws from Dunelms - the moss green ones

They are 220cm x 220cm and double sided - these two should be sufficient to cover my table.

Next job to see if they will take an electric razer - although I am concerned that this might be problematic given the fur is double sided

Looks like a new terrain project is going to start !

Good stuff Giles, let us know how you get on. I played a game on mine this week and the pile is just a little to long for my taste and I wouldn't mind shaving it down a bit, but it's a big area.
I liked the way the terrain I placed on top of it sunk into the pile, very effective, but figures based on pennies struggled with the pile but were OK on sabot bases.
These were 28 mm figures and terrain I don't think the mat would be suitable for smaller scales.
