Title: How many turns?
Post by: Ratman on 11 October 2017, 12:33:46 AM
As the title says, is there a limit on how many turns a game/scenario can run?

Not usually.  Games go until one side is dead, or one side completely exits the table.

A common house rule is to put some sort of limit on turns, to try to 'encourage' players to go for the treasure rather than the 'kill 'em all' approach, but it is just that, a house rule.

Worth noting that a fixed number or turns can also create issues in some scenarios, as you may not have time to climb up and down the Silent Tower or teleport to the magical cellar in a scenario from the Lich book for example.

There is no fixed turn limit, mostly for the reason Coenus stated. It's just too limiting for scenario writing. Also, I've had some great games that have gone into the teens in number of turns (when you are down to just a few figs on each side, the turns go fast!).

If you are having trouble with the kill them all approach, check out the rules in Ghost Archipelago for claiming treasure. That will hopefully help.

Write some simple scenarios with a turn limit.

The Storm Is Coming
Another treasure trove has been discovered, and the warband wants to take it all home before the snowstorm hits. Unfortunately, another warband had the same idea.

The game ends after X turns. Whoever is not within X inches of the board edge they started from, will be lost in the storm.

That'll put some tension in your game! :)
