Title: Fire and Fury Question
Post by: smirnoff on 18 October 2017, 02:16:35 PM
Gents
Last night 3 Reb Brigades in Field Column hit a Union Brigade in Supported line.
1. The Union had 3 targets on the charge approach...who do they fire at?
2. When the Rebs got in 1 was Worn and Disordered, 1 was fine, 1 was fine with and Exceptional Brigade commander. How is the melee worked out; as 1 melee with 3 Reb Brigades vs the Union and, if so, how are the -1 For Disordered, 0 for not Fresh, +1 For Exceptional Brigade commander handled? Do all +/-'s apply to all units?

I'm based for F+F but fancy trying something else. Any recommendations?

I can't help much with the F & F questions, but for an alternate rule system at about the same level you could give Fields of Blue & Grey a quick look.

Not a F&F expert, but I believe that fire should be spread among the 3 targets. I have a house rule that any one attacker can be selected.

As for the charge modifiers, I believe they are cumulative, so the disorder cancels out the exceptional CO, etc.

Smirnoff,

the 45 degree arc or fire determines who is able to fire at which target. In other words the defending stand on the far left cannot target the attacker on the far right.
Apart from this you are allowed to decide who fires on who.

The second question is answered in the rules, under charge modifiers. IIRC a modifier is applied when the majority of the attackers benefit from this modifier.
The exceptional brigade commander and attached leader are always applied.

Hope this helps
Marco

Thanks Marco
I see the rules say +2 if 'half or more' of the stands in the charge combat are fresh..ditto for disordered (missed all of this in the heat of battle last night).
And you are quite correct about Exceptional or Attached commanders.

And thanks to all.

As the author, may I invite you to consider "Bloody Big BATTLES!" (BBB)?

Lots of review comments here:

Oh cool, thanks!

I don't know about lower level rules. Good luck with finding something suitable!
